We have decided on the builder and have the 3rd rendition of the drawing but now we have to kind of start over with the drawings. We went to the property with the builder and started pulling a tape and it just didn’t lay out correctly. So now we are detaching the RV garage and turning the house 90 deg. Still shooting on a fall start date. Home should be complete by summer of 25

Man I forgot about this thread until just now! The house is “done” but had to wait 7 months for the wall permits due to a wash in my yard complicating the G&D design. Got the 8816 wall built and now on to the pool.

Also adding a 14x16’ rear door on the RV garage for a full pull through along with a second 8’ tall service door accessible from the back yard.

Pool design is done and the permit is in resubmitted matter county sent red lines a few weeks ago.

Pool equipment ordered yesterday before quarterly price increase from Pentair.

Here is equipment list but with the ultra temp heat pump rather than the 400K BTU heater.

Finally got my pool and Ramada permit last week. Layout is done and digging starts tomorrow.

Does anybody have ideas for temporary fencing to keep kids and dogs from fall in the hole?

I got some of that orange temp fencing and a million of those 4’ u stakes to cordon off the area. Will supervise kids and dogs around it until it’s done and we have actual poop fencing in place.

Dig started today and we hit caliche 2’ in or less. Going to be a long hammering.

Looking good - That's a big pool! If you haven't already done so, take lots of photos and videos of your plumbing end to end - You never know what may happen a few years down the road, and it might be helpful to be able to see where the pipes go if you have any issues.

We had it in our last pool, and although it's not as skin-friendly as plaster, it was relatively smooth. I'd do it again, for sure.

I had it on a pool about 5 years ago. My wife hated it but it looked really good when no ones in the pool.

When we moved and had a new build we went to plaster. My wife's reason was we had kids now and they are going to be playing in the pool more and they will complain about the bottom pebbles.

Really depends on installer and acid wash process. Lighter color pebble finishes typically don’t need much exposure, so surface stays smoother. Darker colors, like midnight and black tend to need strong acid mix and or multiple washes to get consistent color / pebble exposure ( leaves rougher finish )
It is by far the most common finish in pools and lasts well over 20 years
Note: installer can diamond polish / sand steps, benches, shallow ends at addl cost. Makin it as smooth as you want

current regular plaster materials have expected life of 5 years if you get 10 count your blessings and your savings account, because it will need to be replaced soon

Ok the neighbor just built a new pool with Pebble Sheen and it's still too rough for doing much of any water sports or other activities. Can I still get the pebble look with smooth finish in Pebble Breeze? Is pebble fina just regular plaster?

All great info. My guy is a certified Pebble Tec installer and says he will do it the right way with the original pebble sheen product. Everything will be diamond polished if I go that way and he does all the presidential pools in Arizona, which is close to 2000 a year.

No preference, colors are personal opinions, you could literally do any color and look good, except bordeaux ( purple ) to me is a lame color

My guy says if you go darker, as it wears down over time, the plaster behind the pebble that falls out will be different color and it’ll get blotchy. Sounds unusual to me.

pebbles can fall out, but not enough to worry about color variations over time.

biggest chance of color change over time in dark pools is from salt. You will get light salt coating years later, simple drain light acid wash and new again

I am a picky dude. I usually research everything and anything before I buy. Thanks to your guidance, and others here, I am now sold on Pebble Sheen. I did confirm with my neighbor that his pebble plaster was not polished and thus explains how "rough" I think it is. Diamond polishing is a must for me and my guy says that's included with the installation price.

PGI inspection is today. Shotcrete should be this week or next if we pass today.

My .02. 20 years ago we built a pool with the concrete/rock slide. After a short time (less than a year), it was not very slippery at all and kind of sucked. We moved 3 years after the pool was built, so I have no idea what it is like now. My Sister's pool has the same issue. Maybe there are ways to do it better now. It looked awesome, and better than the fiberglass slide, but if I had to do it over again I probably would've preferred the fiberglass slide. I'm sure a little $$$ can make a fiberglass slide match better than just a stock color.
