Chevy tried to fuck me on a motor. They didn’t fare to well on that endeavor. Never again with that organization and their oil consuming motors.

We have been doing the consuption test for a few months now with Chevy. 2022 6.2 burns a quart every 1400 miles. They state its normal!
The local Sheriffs up here run them. My friend, who's a deputy, said they got one in the last batch that is burning a quart in roughly the same. Dealer told them the same, it is "within spec".

Considering they only hold about 8ish quarts that’s gonna be cuttin it close to E on those 10k Mile services 🤣🤣

Wonder if a thicker oil would be any better? Always been curious why they recommend that low of a viscosity on the newer gas GM stuff?

Fuel economy is why oil has gotten so thin.

Yes, but it has also gotten a lot better. We had an ad pack that resists LSPI much better than previous product. With low tension rings used in everything now, we need to keep some level of seal to the cylinder wall while also preventing microwelding, and we need to timing chains happy, since they’ve made a comeback after a brief 20 year or so run with belts. The viscosity has little to do with anything at this point…and hasn’t for a long time.

There have been 5W30 oils for euro cars (high HTHS) that are thicker than 20W50 oils (low HTHS) for years. There are also “thick and thin 5W30 oil products…Japanese cars spec a low HTHS 5W30 vs Euro that typically specs a high HTHS oil…in previous years…all that has changed in the last 5 years, but the point is, nothing written on the front of the bottle really matters. The specs in fine print on the back matter.

Oil was low once.. they stated oil filter loose! Response “you changed the oil”.

Tightened oil filter and topped off.. lol
Isn’t that the best!

My '22 6.2 uses about 1/2 qt. per 6000mi. My son's '21 6.2 uses about 1 qt. every 3000mi. The '21 sounds like a box of rocks on cold startup though.

GM says their vehicles require Dexos1 spec oil. I’ve run Valvoline in my previous vehicles. But I don’t see they offer a Dexos1 oil in 5-20. They do have Dexos1 in 5-30. Living in San Diego and having a Silverado that says to run Dexos1 0-20, which bothers me as I’ve never had a vehicle that runs a 0 weight oil. Would a 5-30 be to thick? Also I wonder what mpg I might see lost?

My 2007 5.3 would let me know when the 3k oil change was due because it would burn enough for the “low oil” light to come on.

Oddly convenient.

I'm on my 4th 3.5tt from Ford in the last 10 years. (Four separate vehicles for the comprehension impaired GM fanboys :) ) Not a one of them burns or leaks a drop.

My 6L does that…I used to add a quart before I learned the change oil message would pop up the next day. Lol

My 2008 8.1 while towing to the River or Glamis, would burn a full quart.

My 22 Yukon 6.2 needs an extra quart added between changes. Dealer told me that is typical for these.
Got a 2017 Silverado with 43k that does the same exact thing. Once I get about 2000 miles out from the oil change I check the dip stick, and it is always below the full line.

When a Big Block Chevy doesn't use a quart to the river and back, then I become concerned.
Same with the jet bote, 2 days of running it, it'll need a quart.

Delo 400 15w40 available in the convenient gallon size. I'll run that sh!t in everything.

My 2016 Colorado with a 3.6 V6 has always burned oil. About a quart every 3k miles. I just make sure to top it off occasionally and lately have been getting the oil changed every 3k miles.

I got scared when I started reading this thread. Didn’t realize the date and almost thought LOF was back. 🤣
