Took the wife out to dinner at Stiggs. The wife told me she paid a bill for one of my customers at the vet office today. Their son got hit by a tree he was cutting down at work. Ended up on life support for several weeks. He came in with the dog and his mom. Heidi said he was doing pretty good. Then before we left Stiggs, one of her clients came up that their house burned down today. Lost 4 cats, but saved the two dogs. Dam, give your kids a hug and pet your critters.

Excuse the mess. I’m not picking it up until tomorrow. Putting the mixer together was a PIA. I didn’t check but if they have one of those offers to put it together for $20 and you want one, pay the $20.

It doesn’t spin true and wobble a bit which I tie to the wheels having a lot of slop in them. Same as the videos I watched on youtube. I think with the weight of some concrete it will quiet down. We will see tomorrow.

Yo hos. Grout then haul ass back to the cabinet shop to pick up the rest. Yuuuuge pantry cabinet, end panels for the fridge, and a bunch of odd and ends. Crown, base and casing. He didn't quite have it all done, and it wouldn't have all fit anyway.

I just looked at a map, Lake Martin is another LOTO

Actually I think it could be the inland boat destination of choice, but local laws stopped that. Can’t be over 30’ unless you have a boat that was grandfathered in and can prove it was on lake Martin prior to whatever date the law took effected. Nothing over a certain length allowed to be over 60 MPH, but the bass boats can go as fast as they want.

I’m actually off the river that feeds Lake Jordan was is tiny compared to the Lakes I cut my teeth on, KY LAKE, Lake Barclay, and years later Lake Norman. People say shit to me when I put in on Jordan, like we don’t have enough water to float that boat, or sometimes if I run up river from the lake have people act like they are shooting a shotgun at you. I’m only 27.5’ and I’ve on seen one other boat comparable in size on Jordan.

Lake Martin is a 45 minute haul but it’s a beautiful lake. Sometime it reminds me of Lake Norman only it’s much deeper. Where people jump off the “rock” there the channel is over 200’ deep in places according to my plotter. It does have some rock walls where it gets choppy but the main channel that runs under the bridge is usually the worst ride on a weekend with lots of boats on a windy day. If I run about 50 I can stay on top of it in that section and it’s a much better ride. The rest of the lake is fairly calm in comparison.

Smith lake is a couple hours Northwest of me. I’ve never been but saw it on a House Hunters show once and it looked terrific. It’s on my list as well as putting in on the Tennessee River around Huntsville and making the trip to Chattanooga and back.

One of my buddies likes to boat on Lake Mitchell which is the damn I can run up river to on Jordan. The damn is fairly close to my house, but it’s probably a 45 minute haul
To the closet ramp on Mitchell for me. One day I’ll head up there just to see, but it’s smaller than Jordan and if I’m going to pull 45 minutes I’d prefer to hit Martin. Now I say they without have been to Mitchell, so if I go, I could change my mind. I’ve only drove up there and looked at it from the main ramp.

Alabama actually has more square miles of inland water than any other state. There is another big lake a few hours Southeast of me but the name slips my mind at the moment. And of course Orange Beach isn’t very far away either.

No shit... RDP contractors, Mid West chapter. :D

Nah, I’m just a home owner with a cushy office job who is self taught on how to do home projects. If I had family here I would have built my shop myself, but just don’t have enough help here. I helped my FIL build his 20 years or so ago, and they built my BIL shortly after I had mine put up. He did an excellent series of videos on YouTube.

If you guys have time to watch here is the first link. The first one is just design which isn’t as interesting as the rest of the videos IMO, but it’s still part of the process. If you follow the links you can watch the rest of the videos. Seems like he did 10 or so total.

Before I start my snow relocation program this morning, I figured I’d better snap some pics of its natural state. We plan on listing our place within the next couple of months, so it hit me that this will most likely be the last winter views I get, so I’d better preserve them. Above pic is view from front porch facing southwest.

View from the kitchen. You can see the wife’s car at the bottom of the driveway. I don’t know what percent grade the driveway is, but you can see I’m 40’-60’ above the road based on the trees.

Well, that snow ain’t gonna move itself, so I’d best get moving.

Will probably make the half hour trek with the youngest driving over to Hula HQ 2.0 after all our Saturday tasks are done.

Have a great day, boys.

^^^^and that has been, without question, the most phenomenal car we have ever owned. Purchased at 12k miles, now has over 150k. Still drives like a new one. It has not had the first issue, oil changes, tires, and put suspension on it last year. Cant be mad about that.

Still gets 19 to 20 mpg(when shes driving :) )

It’s not exactly perfect. I mixed it a little wet to make sure the edge filled properly.

After I buff it and polish it it should look perfect.

Now we wait.

That's pretty cool, how much do you work the mud while its setting up?

Just level it out with concrete trowels.

Let it sit for 3-4 days without touching it. Pull the forms and wet polish it with concrete buffing pads. This settled a little in a few places and I may be able to buff it out. If not I’ll just mix a little more concrete, fill it in and buff it out.

After polishing it up, it will look similar to this, minus the air voids.

Years ago we made a bunch of pavers with some leftover stained glass we laid in the bottom and poured over , then flipped and cleaned up while still a bit green .

Makes me wonder now where they went,as that was about 25 years ago.

And I did run my Air Compressor which vibrated it down a bit. Along with running an orbital sander around the form a few times.

Here is the worst spot on the pour. I should be able to buff it smooth but may add I skim coat to it. All in all turning out pretty good.

Have a couple low spots around the back edge but I’m not worried about those. Thinking of making a concrete backsplash in a form that will cover it up anyway

Well the concrete countertop is going to be on hold for a bit.

Had been wiggling some stationary air lines around a bit this week to squeeze paneling I’m behind them, I’m sure working the fittings a little lose. Today I unbolted the regular to trim around it and pretty it up. I guess the weight of the regular hanging was enough to completely undo it and nearly took the end of my pinky off when it came apart. Doc said it was hanging on by a thread and if I wouldn’t have applied pressure and ice while waiting on someone to get me to the ER I probably would have lost it.

For now it’s sewn back up, and I have to go see an ortho surgeon tomorrow.

This was completely avoidable and totally on me, so be careful out there.

Ouch! Pinched one of mine once and when I pulled my glove off the nail was standing backwards and hanging by a bit of flesh . 13 stitches later all was good ,well sort of at least. Pounded a six-pack with my arm straight up in the air because it seemed like every heartbeat was going to explode my pinky.

Hasn’t started to throb much yet but they told me it will. I’m keeping it pretty cold with ice and waiting until bed to take the pain meds they gave me.

Did you pinch it or did the broken air line blow it apart?

So....

Either you didn't have the threads turned in far enough, or your cockamamie scam of hanging the compressor on the damned wall literally vibrated the building enough to work harden and break the fittings connecting it.

Compressors belong on the floor. Not hanging on a wall to shake the ever loving piss out of a building. Building aren't meant to be vibrated by reciprocating air pumps. Especially mounted over doors meant to be walked through by people.

Ever think of using a short piece of hydraulic hose as a vibration dampener between the tank and the hard lines?

SMH.

Glad to see it isnt permanent damage, and you didn't loose a finger.

Your "rigging" does not pass muster.
I hope you reconsider your thoughts on this.

Mornin boys.

J21, good luck with the finger, that looks like it’s gonna smart for a bit.

It’s -15° here, -29° wind chill. I was sure that we were done with negative temperatures in February, guess I was wrong.

Have a good week, fellas.

He sent me home with 2. Said take 1/2 of one every six hours. I was like you think I’m a rookie. [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

But I waited until Bed time and took one. Woke up at 0330 with the throbbing you described and took the other and set some ice on it. Been pain free since unless I bump it.

He gave me a script for pain to be filled and I haven’t filled it yet. Probably will at some point just to have it around but I’m not going to take them unless I need them.

Chicks dig scars.

Wife called her dad and told him while we were in ER yesterday. He said at least it did hit him in the face. My response, I would have probably came out of the deal better looking if it did.

this.

You mean this 15’ hydraulic jumper hose that the regulator is hanging from.

IMG_1854.jpg

I’m not going to say there isn’t a potential for it to happen again.

The regulator was unbolted from the wall at the moment and the weight of the regulator was pulling down on that elbow right were it came apart. Could vibration have had something to do with it, possibly but where it came apart there is hardly any vibration. In fact if I hadn’t unbolted the regulator, I wouldn’t have got hit with it.

Not to mention they are stationary lines like you alluded to and where it came apart I had been pushing it back and forth to fit trim behind several times this weeks also likely contributing to the failure. It’s not always one thing that causes failure. Sometimes it’s a series of events, and I believe all 3 have a little something to do with it, but not just the fact the compressor is mounted to the wall.

Here’s where the idea came from. And it’s still there. Over 10 years later.
