The location of the most recent one is the scary thing. Usually they seem to stay away from the hotel zone. Out in the jungles is one thing, but this….

You guys comparing the US to Mexico are funny. Mexico as a nation is rated 2nd in the world per capita for murder rate and has a 98% higher murder rate than the U.S.
Not to mention, not many people vacationing in shit hole parts of Chicago, or New York.

The old "this part of mexico is safe" response is all good until, it isn't safe (as shown in this article). And you don't need to engage with drug dealers or be around cartels to take some stray bullet to the dome during a cartel shoot out.

The country is run by cartels and crooked politicians, is funded by drug money, is owned by criminals. Cartels don't give two shits about resorts, or tourists or anything else and is slowly encroaching into the "but this part is safe" areas. This same type incident happened a couple years ago at a high end beach resort.

You can have that shit, I choose to vacation places that people aren't routinely getting their heads chopped off and kidnapped and the police bribe you when you go to the store and random cartel shoot-outs or anywhere where I have to "be smart and aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine" is the motto.

“The country is run by cartels and crooked politicians,”

Sounds like the good old present USA 👍

At least in Mexico, you know what’s up. 😬

There's a reason why Kamala and Sleezy Joe won't visiting Mexico anytime soon...

When you say "cartels" you mean big pharma and big tech and you're right. When you say "crooked politicians", well, that's redundant.

But really, comparing Mexican cartels to big tech and pharma is like saying a 190 Bayliner with a 125 outboard is the same as a 50' Skater with 1550 mercs. I mean, they're both boats right?

politics are politics. Saying all politics are the same is fool-hearty.

I fully agree and have been saying this for years. We have lots of friends who go to Mexico and they love it. I just know that I would not be able to relax, knowing that the cartels don't have a problem having shootouts in the middle of tourist areas.

In the US, I don't vacation in shitty areas, and it's usually pretty easy to determine if an area is relatively safe or unsafe. In Mexico it seems like any area can turn very unsafe in an instant.

I remember when El Chapo started listing off some of the politicians he donated to in the USA.. court room doors closed immediately.. lol

I’m not entirely sure our country is any better at this point

Half the reason the Mexican cartels have so much power in Mexico now is because of help for the U.S. Zero doubt about that. But like Greg said above, I'd rather not go to a place that can turn into a cartel shoot out at any point and frequently does, regardless of US vs Mexico.

However, your trip looked amazing! LOL I just wish mexico was like it was pre, say 1995 ish. .25 cent tacos, .50 cent coronas. Nice beach front hotel for $20 a night. The absolute worse thing you had to worry about was being pulled over and shook down for $20 from the federales. Prices at these resort towns are the same as prices in South Florida, Bahamas, Hawaii, etc. I see no need to go to Mexico AT ALL.

So you dont walk down the street anywhere in the US that possible gang violence could acure? Shit is the same everywhere! Life could be taken at anytime. I spent a night in long beach 2yrs ago to catch the ferry to Catalina the next morning. I felt more unsafe walking to the store that night then I ever have in mexico. Granted we dont go walking dark alleys while in mexico either.

When's the last time you saw a drug shootout at the Newport Hyatt or the Mission Bay Hotel in SD? Or anywhere in Key West? The Sandals resort in Nassau? The Royal Kona Hawaiin Resort in Hawaii? You haven't because there never has been one. Risk vs reward.

I won't go to Chicago because the crime and the way its run. I wont go to Portland because of the crime and the way it's run. etc.

In life, there's measured risk. For me 1) risk aint worth the reward when I can enjoy the same experience elsewhere 2) I wont spend a dime in that shit hole corrupt, fucked up county.

I always like to point to exhibit A) when discussing mexico and tourist spots. Acapulco. Once the #1 tourist destination in Mexico (and the world). Now listed as one of the top 5 deadliest beaches in the world.

I'd rather not be lounging on the beach drinking a margarita at Cancun or porta viallarta or wherever else in mexico when it becomes the new Acapulco

Can’t beat Hawaii or better yet Bali. Or, the ultimate for a great price, Racha Island Thailand.

Last month pulled over by the police in La Paz.... where drove there from Cabo... looked around and were heading back.. about 2 miles outside of the city we saw lights behind us..... after a bit of back and forth with our spanglish.... it was 4000 pesos and come back tomorrow to the station and we hold you license OR pay 2000 pesos now... great reduction...its a deal!!! Only we had just spent all of our cash hours earlier on crap... So we were basically told to follow him to a ATM... scary part was when he took us on a dirt road.... oh shit pucker went in over drive..... turns out he had a little area that he probably takes everyone to to pay the "fine".... loosely said.

talk about being uncomfortable and helpless....

I would say cartels and the corrupt gov people of Mexico do care about resorts, they need to keep up the facade of a somewhat normal functioning country. There are some good value things to be had in MX, of course there’s better in the world but not as close. I love it down there for a quick getaway.

I bet who ever perpetrated this will face punishment, either through the legal system or extrajudicially.

This is why I don't go to Mexico anymore. At least in the U.S. you are not getting rolled by LE for bribe money. On top of that, a lot of the LE down there is connected to the cartel's.

It’s not the cheapest place you can go but Aruba is pretty dam nice and very safe.
Another advantage is very little rain and no hurricanes so you don’t have to worry about your hard earned vacation becoming a wash out.

I’m not sure how much more Hawaii but it’s worth every penny for piece of mind. Plus @HNL2LHC has a RDP special where he buys dinner. It’s a win/win.

LA's up to 1500+ gunshot victims this year alone. I think the Cartels have a better hit percentage involving their targets.

Why go all the way to Mexico when you can see everything Mexico has to offer right here in L.A.? Fuck that shithole! And if you’ve never been to Guatemala, El Salvador or Honduras save yourself the 4-5 hour flight and drive through South Central Los Angeles. It looks pretty much the same.

Not sure why but I am totally fascinated with drug cartel shows and documentaries...good shit!
Seems like everyone is! There’s endless documentaries on them on prime and Netflix and Hulu.

Just watched FBI most wanted show last night on Netflix and it was on el Mayo who I guess was El Chapo’s boss. Still at large. Still running Sinaloa cartel. They tried to flush him out by taking his kids into custody and the cartels declared war on the Mexico govt / military. Killed all kinds of citizens. Govt backed down said they were done going after drug lords.

Yeah, great country! Really a place I want to go. 👎

I Google "Border Land Beat." Its a narco blog that doesn't miss anything down there. Wild stuff!! There's gory, beheading videos but I pass those up. There if you want to watch.
