Here is some RC boat hardware I polished up! Alum., brass, & a stainless steel prop! Works on BIG props too!

Hud, are you polishing by hand? Or using a buffing wheel?

What's your process?

Hey Mike, Is this stuff food safe or whatever RD called it? Also which of your products would you recomend for an enclosed trailer with baked enamel on aluminum? Aswell I thought I remebered something about a stronger version of the green stuff, is this correct?

Dylen, yes many of the componets used in metal wax are food grade. but with said we never went to the FDA for that prosess of approval. i would recomend that you wash your pots and pans with soap and water after polishing with the metal wax.

the top wax is the product that you want for the trailer it works on all painted surface's, yes we make the metal cleaner in three versions. standard, medium and high performance :D

Are you using microfibers? Or something a little coarser in the beginning like Terry cloth?

The problem I'm having with this product is that I haven't finished a single project yet. I walked around the house looking like Wyatt Earp hunting for shit to polish. So far I've hit half a SS BBQ, 1 dirt bike wheel, a toolbox and the metal dog food bowls.:D

Todays metal wax project, got home early and decided to put it to the test and see just how good this stuff really works. I have a diamond plate rock gaurd on my enclosed trailer, have not touched it in 7 years. Okay I messed with it once with Mothers and vowed never to do that again and just live with the dull aluminum look. Anyways I hit it with the green first (kinda half ass) then yellow followed by pink. It did an okay job, some spots looked great but the majority had a deep haze that just would not pop. So I repeat the process with better result but still a lot of deep haze. Finally I said fuck it and put the green in a spray bottle and saturated it and let it sit. I went to wipe it off and I thought I was fucked royaly as it would not come off with just a cloth. I then hit it again with the pink using a clean part of the cloth every time it got black and TADA it looks great. Here is a pic of the before, light was bad so I will put up an after pic tommorow. I still have a bit to detail around the edges but for the most part its real real shiny now:D So I am thinking had I hit it hard with the green to begin with it would have went a lot faster, long story short, the shit works.:thumbsup and with some practice I am learning how to use the product to its full potential.

Just judging by the name I'm assuming it leaves wax on the metal..

That being said do you think soap and water would take it off? I'm just wondering if I make all my pits and pans look bitchen.. Then wash them.. Then start cooking on it if it's gonna release some bullshit into my food that is gonna give me a third nut.. And if it does do I have to pay extra? Lol

seriously though the question stands.

Are you using microfibers
I apply it with the little piece of indoor carpet that came with the kit! Remove it with a microfiber cloth!

I was afraid that carpet would scratch the aluminum so I didn't use it yet.. I just used microfibers for the whole process.

I'll try that next. :)

a deep haze that just would not pop
Make sure your working in the shade! If your out in the sun, it will dry out before you can get it off! Work small areas, I wouldn't try to do the whole deal at once, for the same reason! I found that a new clean rag will take the haze out! Lols, it took 7 years to get it dirty, its not going to shine like a new nickle in 15 mins...........................C'mon!:D P.S. also sounds like you might be putting on to much product on! I have that problem myself! It's hard to get used to! It just doesn't take much to do the job! I have done the front bumper on my pickup with what was left on the rag & it looked great! Enough said!

the last couple of days we have been deliberately trying to f- up diamond plate with the metal cleaner (leave it on to long or to strong of a blend etc etc) but i found out that the metalwax gel has always brought it back. I can tell you that on diamond plate the carpet pad is the key factor. RD ill find a bad piece of diamond plate and film it in the next couple of days.

Dave, I got to thinking about it & the only time I have used the microfiber cloth to appy the cleaner & polish gel was on my wing! That Alum. is a little soft & the carpet was a little hard on it! The microfiber cloth worked a lot better !

Ok so it works, pretty much anything does! The REAL question is....

Does the metal stay shiny any longer than lets say, if you used a powerball and mothers?

When I got the wheels on my truck, (they are forged alum btw), they stayed shiny for months, I could hardly believe how long the shine lasted. I atrubtited it to them being forged wheels.

When I finally had to polish em up, yeah they turned out great, but the shine didnt last as long!!! :grumble: So is the the same kinna forumla that my wheels came with new? Id LOVE to have that look again, and a nice shiny finsh that will last!

Thanks for any help on this issue!!!

:D

P.S. This is how they looked when I bought em...

These are not forged wheels! If I had a forged set of wheels I wouldn't use a powerball on them! Metalwax has no abrasives in it! No abrasives, no scratch"s.

where would one find it on their website.. And does that now mean we can't get it from metalwax.com?

RD

You can still get it from Metalwax, called them today and talked with Mike. Got my order all set up and shipped within a couple hours of the phone call and was more then helpful with explaining how it worked, plus the RDP hookup he mentioned on the first page. Cant wait till I get it:thumbsup:thumbsup

HERE'S WHY

Other brands of metal polish contain mostly rouge compounds or other abrasives & mineral spirits. They are like liquid dirt in a bottle. As you rub this abrasive on the metal it wears off the surface to a new layer of metal that shines. The down side is, when the compounds grind on the surface they disintegrate into micro fine particles that get pushed into the pores of the metal below the surface, once this happens you can't remove it The more you polish the more dirt you push into the metal, the worse it gets. When you wash the metal with soap, the soap contains alkaline which is corrosive. Corrosives eat dirt, that is their job, this is how the soap cleans.

When the soap hits the impacted polishing compounds it tries to eat it out of the pores of the metal, but it can't because when you polished the metal you pushed the compounds in deep below the surface. What happens instead is the micro fine compounds absorb the liquid soap, it becomes a sponge & causes the soap to stick to the metal. What you get when this happens is shine decay. The more you polish with liquid dirt the faster this cycle happens, until you have so much left over dirt & soap on the metal you can't polish it anymore. Then you have to re-cut the surface with a buffer and the shine decay starts all over again.

METAL WAX STOPS SHINE DECAY

Our exclusive fluoride metal cleaner cleans everything off the metal. Instantly removes all stains, all the old polishing compounds, soap scum, corrosion, dirt, absolutely everything from below the surface. You now have total clean metal to work with. You then apply the Metalwax. The wax polishes, waxes and seals in one fast operation. The wax goes in below the surface. " It fills the metal in" and dries hard. There is no left over compounds for the soap to react with and dirt and soap will not stick to the wax. The corrosive soap is not reactive to the wax, your shine holds

Sorry for the delay. For the most part I got it pretty good but it could use a good once over now that all the crap is off. It was real bad and I cant believe it just kept lifting crap off and turning the rags black. looking back I'm sure the whole deal would have went alot smoother had I used the carpet in the begining instead of just terry clothes. all in all I gotta say "the shit works":D

heres a cool pic on how well the H.P. metal cleaner works on horse trailers. this half only took about 5 minuets just take 10oz of the H.P. metal cleaner to 3 gallons of water and brush it on with a soft rv wash brush wait about 2 minuets and hose it off. :D

Sorry to say I have no photos, but I used some High Performance metal cleaner this weekend on a pontoon boat! This boat had been in the water at Lake Shasta for 7 years & the pontoons had black algae at the water line on down. The boat was a 28 footer & in a hour looked like new! Man this stuff just kepts blowing my mind!

Went to Pomona swap meet this last weekend and was hoping to see you guys..
I did see 5-6 others pedaling the same stuff, spay on wipe off stuff.
I do alot of polishing for myself/friends and not sold on any yet to recommend.
I even bought a few items at the swap meet and had them try it out on my stuff.
Not one gave me the shine I was looking for,(this was on a once polished manifold that looked like it sat outside 4 years)

Even though I do alot of buffing/polishing. I think this could be good stuff to turn my buddies on to,once I am done polishing up there stuff.

Here is a sample of what I sand/buff/polish.

parts2plh.jpg

here is the intake I picked up this weekend and the first two photos of the intake that sellers at the show cleaned and the last is at home with the buffer in about a minute or so.

I really am interested in finding a wipe on wipe off product for like these valve covers, they have not been scratched up to bad, but polishing them just to get them back to shine is time comsumeing...

That is where this stuff excels Johnny. I don't think it'd make a great "polish" in the true nature of the word.. It's more of a finish restorer for things that were once polished.

No seriously, I'm really wondering if will it work on oxidized galvanized steel to at least bring back the shine a little bit?
