These new low flow toilets need to be flushed 2-3 times to move the load down the line. So last round it was 1.6 gallons, now it’s 1.28 gallons per flush which equals 2.56 gallons or 3.84 gallons for double or triple flush. Sometimes things were originally designed a certain way because that’s what fucking works LOL

Maybe @RiverDave will chime in as he knows more than the average bear about this stuff.

Long story short I’m thinking about starting a smuggling outfit that brings contraband like high flow toilets, incandescent light bulbs, non spill proof gas cans, washing machines that work from free America into the peoples republic of California 😂

What other things could be smuggled in? 😁😁☹️

Do toilets not claim how many golf balls they could flush anymore lol?
They seem to have them able to clear the bowl with low flow, but it’s not enough water to carry the load down the line. The term shit flows down hill isn’t entirely true, water flows down hill and carries shit with it LOL

Fucking nanny state. I’m optimistic that the smartest man in the world can and will fix the stupidity, but I’m “NOT SURE”.

When I used to test them there were several media tests.. from traditional napkins to golf balls, smaller media etc.. I’m not sure what they would use to test now.. generally speaking though things like golf balls and other floating small balls are pretty useless on a media test

Was the metric to just clear the bowl or was it about moving the load down the line also? How many gallons were you pushing through your valves?

No idea you used to test toilets.

I just remember my step dad replacing the toilet in his bathroom and bragging how many golf balls it could flush🤣

How did they fuck up water heaters?
California now has emissions controls laws that apply to water heaters. They want everyone to have electric.

Starting January 1, 2027, new natural gas-powered standard tank water heaters cannot be sold or installed. Existing gas water heaters can be repaired, but once they can no longer be operated, they must be replaced with an electric or heat-pump powered water heater.

Seems like a warehouse full of real water heaters may be a solid investment right now.

My dad designed a few of the toilet valves that are still on the market today.. at one point they designed a few actuall toilets to work in conjunction with the valves etc.. so when I was a kid I did a lot of testing with toilets..

Pretty much anything to do with the control of gasses and liquids is what he specialized in..

Roll seal valve / axial flow valve / toilet valves / chicken feeders all kinds of shit.. lol

He actually designed the hydraulic flap actuators for the SR71..

When he passed one of his friends did a light search and printed out a binder and gave it to us as a present.. it had 115 of his patents.

@whiteworks I’m a buyer! Make it happen. We were thinking about this on our last road trip and if we could stuff a couple in the Moho.

I smuggle BlueBell ice cream every time I leave the state.

That’s really damn cool, 115 patents including SR71s parts is one hell of a legacy.

I missed buying a Honda pro lawn mower last year. now they quit making them mostly due to California I suspect.

I will be buying a few water heaters.

On that subject what's the route around the agricultural station?

Quality toilets are in demand! I went to Costco last night to grab a Kohler smart toilet. Was there Friday and they had a shit load of them. Customer gave me the go ahead Saturday. None left. He checked the system they were sold out by Saturday. Never expected a $1600 toilet to sell so well just before the holidays. They do have a nice Toto in its place for only $350.

Auto start stop on cars drives me nuts

I deactivated the DFM, digital fuel management , where it deactivates cylinders to save gas,
My MPG literally went up.

Funniest one is CA requires battery operated garage door openers in case of electric blackout?
I thought pulling the rope was a good idea.

lol American Standard uses that metric. And I think it’s 10 golf balls?

I’ll say we rarely if ever have a clogged toilet.

This was about 15 years ago but I want to say around 100 golf balls was the claim.

The toilets in our current house suck, my 5 year old has even clogged the toilet multiple times.

There is a lot more stuff out there.. that’s just what he found.

The fountain at the bellagio in Vegas is controlled by roll seal valves.. he designed those back in the 70’s..

He would mostly design something start a biz sell the biz design something else..

They have the Toto Drake with seat supply line and wax ring for $350. If I recall it's $380 my price at Hirsch. Without the install kit.

I have 2 Gerbers almost ready to install in my project house. I got them from Costco a while ago for $99 each on clearance. I have the same 1 in my house. Dual flush button. The Gerber Viper is the go to for rentals. Supposedly the best flush. This Gerber is good no issues.
I still double or triple flush it when I shit just to get it to the main.

The Toto washlet is back to $350 it was $300 until the 20th. It's like $380 at Hirsch. But I don't like the side controls.

Just sat through a class on heat pump water heaters. If you’re replacing an electric water heater, (small % of CA), the payback is fairly quick. If you’re replacing a gas heater, it’s just plain expensive. Very expensive. It will work on 120v but not well and a much slower refresh. Good luck running new electrical to it to make it work right.

They do golf balls somewhat as a gimmick. The real testing is artificial poo. Pretty gross stuff but accurate.

PS. If anyone is looking the American Standard Champion series is the best flush for the buck. High end toilets look nice but worry more about looks than getting rid of a big deuce. Put on in the kids bathroom when we had a full house. Stopped having to constantly plunge the old one.

I need to buy one this week. Almost 2k otd. Problem is they take a lot longer to heat up. That's why the smaller one is 50 gallons. Regular electric one is $500 in comparison. It's required on my title 24 page for that job.

Have not heard what a swap out is but imagine $4500-5000. Average gas water heater with swap out is $2200. And electric $1600

Counter guy told me the Toto was on sale. I was at $250.00 out the door with wax ring, and tube of caulk. Purchased a seat and supply line, and filler valve separately as I was rebuilding the old toilet until I noticed the tank was cracked and had a pinhole leak😡

One of my pet peeves is low water pressure in a shower. I encounter this in hotels when I travel so now I always carry a cordless drill and tools. I'll disassemble the shower head and either remove the little plastic restrictor or drill a larger hole in it. I don't think any hotel management ever knows but I'm sure guests staying in the room after me appreciate it! 😁

Here’s the info we were given. 110V will take a while to warm up. (They wouldn’t even talk about it). They’re damn expensive units even with rebates.

When we raced in Primm for years, I would always drill out the shower heads at Buffalo Bills. There was at least 20 rooms that had good showers. 😂

Fluorescent tubes. Grab them while you can. They’re not phasing out on this one. No “sell while you have old supply” like on everything else.

They must be paying way more for natural gas than I am. My gas bill avg is $15 a month with a gas water heater. Using the stove a few times only.
