I think I'd renege on #9! ....

And now we have a former SWAT Sgt. Trying to cash in saying SWAT Cops has a SWAT mafia that encourages deadly force
Attorney nonsense , nothing further from the truth

All part of the media narrative that all cops are bloodthirsty jack booted thugs that need to be abolished.🙄

The sucky part is law-enforcement will be somewhat caught in the middle, they know the right side, but that’s a tough decision when you’re close to retirement. Hopefully it doesn’t go that far.

They don't need to chose sides. Just continue doing what they've been ordered to do now. Stand down.
Yup. Monitor and building protection. What happens in the middle of the crowd or around the corner during the march is not going to be solved too easy with mass crowds.... hypothetically speaking of course.

Prior to the 1960's police departments were held accountable by law for the damage a riot /looters caused. So they squashed them quick! The law was changed, now they are held responsible (sued) for what they do not what they don't do. So know they watch and witness and insurance companies pick up the tab. Don't miss understand what im saying. Im totally pro cops and have "Honoring Fallen Officer" plates on all my vehicles since the day I moved into AZ 12 years ago.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'd probably bitch slap the politicians running the city and be out of a job within a week.... But that week would be a ton of fun. 😂

I nominate @Flyinbowtie if we could get him back on here.
I learned I have a harder perimeter than my Chief, lol. Protestors are trespassing if they come within 100’ of my house. Don’t rely on an HOA gate, build your own

I did gain a bit of respect for Villaneuva last night. Did you two see him in regards to the Los Angeles CEO claiming harassment?

I'll search for it. The LAC Ceo's are protected by the Sheriff's department which is the same department they are trying to Defund. Not that it really matters much, but they had plans to do that prior to the BLM demanding it. Think about that for a minute, and honestly I think it makes it worse. I say the Sheriff should pull all protection of them, and their precious little building, and let their voting base have full access to them whenever they want it. I'm sure LAPD would be on board if the Sheriff simply said, "Ok, first to get cut is any protection detail for any of you."

Yea that's the basis of the rift. Long story short, bitch got 1.5 mill to drop harassment suit against Villanueva and the city. When interviewed about it, he said he stood by every tweet or statement he made. 👍

City Council caved like the liberal bitches they are.

Gentlemen, I am humbled by the incredible honor you due me with these words. Wow.
Somewhere out there is a younger. smarter and more articulate guy with the skills and force of will necessary to do this job, I hope he surfaces and gives you people out there doing the job the leadership you deserve.
I tell ya this, tho.
If I could ever be of service to any of you, well, this crippled up old man wouldn't hesitate. Not a minute. I still slow roll by every traffic stop I come across, and would not hesitate a second to jump in and help if I saw things going bad.

The protest pic is from Seattle, unk. Date but good snapshot of what has been going on
The dirt lot is what used to be a grass dog park/walk behind our Police Admin building on 1st/Main. Antifa has staged there the last two months with Garcetti’s approval. Nice to have the enemy at your “six” SMDH

The mayor let them build an pantifastan behind the admin building? What a prick. Glad your "shop" isn't on that site.
Stay safe.

When times used to be good, and the economy booming, applicants tended to be the people you wanted, IMHO, because they wanted the job for all the right reasons. When we tested, as many as 3 out of 10 were people we were interested in.
When times are bad, you get people looking for a job, any job, and people who see the bennies, not the work. You also get people who meet minimum standards. Barely.
Now, what will happen, IMHO, is that the number of people who will even try for the job will go way down, shrinking the field of good guys. You may get 1 of 10, or one of 15 who meets minimum standards, and 1 one in 25 who you are excited about.
Continous recruitment becomes the norm, even in rural agencies.
Positions go open. People are forced to pull OT. Special units dissolve.
And people bitch to the political leadership that the "Cops are not doing enough".
And then the push comes along to lower your standards. To not do a deep and complete background check. Pressure to push someone through FTO who shouldn't make it for a variety of reasons.
I don't think you will see gangsters in uniform, but you get my drift.
When I treid to get into the CHP back in '07 I believe, right before they froze hiring due to the recession, there were 1,200 people in the written test group I was in. In the physical test there were 300. To start the backgrounds there were 30. They said they MIGHT get 2 out of that group. I was not 1 of those 2 (likely could have been had I known then what I know now)..... and I am SOOOO glad I was not one of those 2.

I tried to get into the sheriff department in 88(?), and after going through the whole array if tests and failing the oral interview/ psych test twice by one point using textbook answer from my cop friends I got a hold of the guys in the program and had a talk in the hallway and was told.

"yeah dont take it personally we aren't hiring white guys right now. "

Probably best thing that happened to me in the long run, but far from equitable, fair ,or honest.

I had the exact same thing happen to me for Burbank Police. Only this was again back in '06 or '07 and was HIGHLY illegal and frowned upon. The new chief's secretary was a long time customer of my Mom's (she was a manicurist) and told my mom knowing that I was in the process for applying. Total bullshit, but I do not regret it now with everything going on.

My eldest son with out me knowing, was in the cue to go with CHP right after he finished up with the Army in 2006 ish, might have been in the same period you were in the mix.
He got to the background point and I finally found out and let him have it. Told him no way I wanted him following in my footsteps. We had a long talk about it, lasted all night. He went to his background and interview and they wanted him and boom...hiring freeze.
I was one thankful Dad.
He is doing great, making good $ and isn't 12 years into the job and dealing with shit today, and I am still thankful.

Yup, you can make a ton more money, not deal with the political bullshit, and probably live long enough through retirement to enjoy life outside of Law Enforcement. BUT.... you don't get to play real life cops and robbers. 😁

I hope none of my kids go down this path. It's bad at the moment, and I can only imagine what it will be in 10 - 15 years if things don't go right politically.

Its the shitz to feel that way, ain't it T&Y? Not wanting them to follow you?

If things go the RIGHT way politically it will be 10 years before we get things sorted out.

The crappy thing about being a chief of police is that you serve at the will of a city manager, who is the mouthpiece for the city council. I know a couple of chiefs. or retired ones anyway. Good men who started out as damn good cops then climbed the ladder. As we all know once you make LT you pretty much cease being a cop unless you are running a highly specialized unit. They were damn good cops, and had tenures of 5-10 years, which is a good run for a chief. One ran into a power hungry city manager who made a scapegoat of him, and another was pushed out for doing too good a job.
The Sheriff is the guy with the juice in California.
Highest elected official in the county, because he is elected by all of the voters, not just a district or a area.
The Sheriff in California's 58 counties is required by the Government Code to do the following.

Provide Bailiffs with powers of arrest for the courts, where they provide security as well.
Provide a County Jail where arrested persons can be processed, and those sentenced to county time can serve their sentence.
Provide a process by where civil papers can be served.
Manage the Search and Rescue function in the county, and, unless local .gov sets up something else, he is the defacto incident commander for any major disaster in the county.

And that is all.

There is no law requiring a SO to provide patrol law enforcement services to unincorporated areas of the county
There is no law requiring a sheriff to provide security details for anyone. Period.

If a sheriff is feeling heat from politicos trying to defund his dept. He should notify the public of which services will be curtailed.
In writing, in order.

Start with the stuff the public will feel the least. Like the security for the local bigwigs, and the other dozens of services the sheriff provides damn near out of habit in some areas. Do everything you can to save the stuff the people want, but if you are already at minimum staffing levels, well...there is no fat left to cut.
Let the people know.

-Cut the pet programs in every supervisor or council district that is represented by a political person
seeking to defund him. Align your beats in the county with the supervisorial districts. By district number.
-District 4 supervisor voted to cut the SO budget?
-District 4 substation or stop in facility has its hours cut, and we put the sign on the door as to why. Let the people know.

Always, always let the people, the public know. Tell them the truth. the who, the what, and the why.
IF you and your people have worked hard and earned their trust, then they will support you.
Support your people on the street. If they work for you you should be working for them, because you all work for the people paying the bills.
The best boss I ever had was a man like this. If we fucked up, which, as a sergeant, means I fucked up, because shit rolls uphill in the sergeants world, I could grab the LT, brief him, then go up the hall and see the big boss. Open door policy. "hey boss, we fucked up. Here is what happened. It won't happen again. Do that and he would back us to the gate. The rule was, don't ever, ever lie to him or make him look like a fool. You avoid that, keep him in the know on shit he needed to know and don't bother him with shit he didn't, and he was the best. If you had a problem person try to fix them, give them a chance. If they can't be fixed get rid of them on FTO (And I sent a lot packing from my FTO program...I think that is the core of any dept...The FTO program is where you find the good guys and the bad guys, and you better do the right thing.)
Lie to him and you were gone. If you were not fired you would decide to quit.
My best boss was a Sheriff in the best sense of the word. He loved the county, loved the people that worked for him, and was the kind of man you wanted to please. He was awesome. I was proud to work for him.
A lot of us were.
You could walk in and ask the man a question and get a straight answer. It might not be the answer you wanted, and he would give you a chance to speak your piece and change his mind, but if he said no, that was it.
We like that. Straight answer, no BS.
That is how ya do it. Back your people. Stop into briefing every now and then. Be their champion, demand the best from them and yourself, and demand honesty, and give it back. Do this, build a history of doing this, get a tradition and culture established of doing this, and you will find good people want to work for you.

Chief of Police has to do a helluva lot more politicking. They need the same thing downstream a sheriff does, but if they piss of the city manager, or a majority on the council, they are vulnerable. With that job you have to decide when you go in who's core values you are going to live by. IF you can't do the job and stay true to your core values then you are going to have a hard time getting the cops who work under you to do so.
I dunno if I could be a chief of police. Well..I mean I could, but I would make many people unhappy. Probably very quickly.
Especially right now.

I can’t get too specific but:
All LAPD advised to shut down social media accounts, carry PD radios home, strongly watch entering / exiting PD facilities

While this is common sense, there’s a new group of Aholes in so cal actively looking for off duty Cops

I won’t close this account but please don’t PM me with specifics

The So Cal JRIC in LA County has all the pertinent info.

We always need to be alert but be especially alert now
Watch teens social media as many are finding our addresses through our kids.

I will be buying rounds the day I get to serve a warrant on this group, hoping they decide to set up base in LA

Vote R in November

Some here are open about their employment, and their badge. I believe there are quite a few more that lurk, but may not post. To all out there, watch your six. Take care of yourselves, take care of your kin.

I really feel there are more people backing you all than you know. Obviously the media won't show that.

Possibly shot in head: graze wound, or pistol whipped: fog of info.

Suspect came into station and got into fight with Officer , possibly got Offficers gun and fired a round .
Watch Sgt. Returned fire at suspect , suspect fled

Suspect in custody after pursuit

Get all lobbies on lockdown in case organized attacks

Fucker should be in a body bag! 😖
Don't waste the bag...
Thinking a little more "dark ages"...let the corpse hang as a warning.

I am a much nicer person than I was, but my tolerance for stupidity is reaching an all time low. The time for pleasantries has past.

I hope the LEO was only grazed, I hope they may recover quickly.
