Hey guys with these things:

what size rear wheels, tires, and offset are you running. I think I want to shackle it and put some wider meats in the back but i don't want to mess with the body panels at all. I can take the opportunity to put some slightly larger wheels on it too to accommodate a small set of discs up front

My 65 mustang ran 69 mustang wheels. Still a 14 but a true 6” width.
I’d run a steel wheel with poverty caps. Just enough size to make you go hmmm. Don’t you have twisty roads drop it a little. Or go full gasser or ride it LA vato!

I dont know about the 62 but on the 66-67 you can roll/remove the inner rear wheel well lip and fit up to a 8" wide wheel with a 10" tire. Bigger then that means mini tubs and moving the spring perches.

On my 67 it has the wheel well lips trimmed and the wheels on my car are reproduction of the factory classic steel wheel available from Dearborn Classics. Dearborn has a large offering of wheels and knows what backset you need. They pretty much have everything you could ever need or want for your car

Almost done tearing down..... she was definitely cooking herself. I am also wondering how "new" this engine is. Dont get me wrong, everything looks nice inside with the exception of the valves. But it doesn't look new

Really bro? Yank that engine and trans, rip out All the wiring and start over from scratch. Your making more work for yourself doing that engine in the car!

Clean and paint the engine compartment while everything is out.

Remove six more bolts, and it's out!

Its a few more than 6 bolts. And don't forget to account for all the 60 yr old stuff that doesn't want to come apart and is best avoided unless you absolutely have to.

Discount the p/s lines, the fuel pump hose, the plug for the neutral safety switch and the nut for the shifter. You already have the kick down disconnected, so you don't have to worry about that.

Much easier than working over the fender!

Yep and heads are back on and all the rockers are set. Working on the intake and exhaust manifolds now. Its gonna be a mildly long night but im gonna be happy when I go to sleep. I'm literally gonna finish assembly tonight and worry about wiring and cam break in later

Wiring harness and ecm ripped out. Fuel is already replumbed for the carb. Hitting vacuum lines next and then onto the rewire

P.s. if anybody would like a complete mass air fuel injection setup for a 302/5.0 [less fuel pump,] shoot me a PM, ill let it go for pennies on the dollar of what I have into the carb conversion. I went through great strides to remove everything intact and damage free. It is a brand new wiring harness, includes EEC4 computer, as well as entire intake and ignition system

Calling it a night. Engine room is 100% plumbed and I was also able to get a game plan going and at least got started on the wiring, and yes I know that the wiring isn't period correct as I so strongly tote. The goal is to get her back on the road and then I can start tackling those details a little bit at a time

If it were me.... I’d do the disc upgrade. 14 or 15’s with the right tires would keep it plenty retro. And no doubt the discs would make it a better driver.

4 wheel disk. Throw all that stock stuff in the trash. Call Ed at ABS in Orange. He will have everything you need in stock.

Already has new brake lines. Theres no way 4wheel disc is touching this car. It will for sure be getting a dual master cylinder for safety, and MAYBE front disc brakes. 4wheel is overkill and takes away from the car.

One successful weekend! Got a bunch done on the Cobra yesterday, won some moneys playing poker last night, and today:

Casper got her brake lights fixed, temp gauge fixed, oil psi light fixed, radiator fan spacer installed, and I took my measurements for the new fan shroud. Pictures kind of suck because a lot of it was pulling 2 new wires and circuit testing with my powerprobe but it was a lot of work and I got everything finished that I set out to do and then some.

Oh I also saw the Falcon rolling around last week and had to get a picture of it, I actually saw 2 that day which was absolutely crazy

I am probbably asking a dumb question...is the 5.0 sender connected to the '62 meter? ..could be a signal level mismatch. can probly fix with simple op amp level shifter, if that's the case

its a 302 water pump spec'd from a 1969 302, standard rotation. Also 5.0 waterpumps water inlet face the other direction.

First thing I thought of.... unfortunately not the culprit

I'll tell you i had a hell of a time finding the water pump i needed for the cobra engine, I needed the inlet facing the same direction as the 5.0 pump but it needed to be standard rotation so I could run a vbelt setup. The one I needed was for a first year Mustang2

Its actually getting hot, running about 195 via IR gun on the tstat housing. Temp sensor was changed out when I replaced the intake

Thats not extreme. As long as the timing measurement is accurate then too much advance is likely ruled out as the driving force behind it running hot.

That said, 195 is not too hot if thats as hot as it gets.

Thats as hot as it gets in the driveway with no load. It starts creeping up when your driving it and will crest the 215 mark after about 45 minutes of driving. Its much better than it was before I redid and flushed everything, but still not good enough.

Since you have the temp gun, for grins go to the side of the block and see if you can tell if any two cylinders are hotter than the others. While I know you didn't sand bar the car and suck up and pack sand between the cylinders, if something else is obstructing the water passage, it could explain the heat and the dropped cam. Perhaps the bore is tight on one or more cylinders. Something inside that engine isn't happy. Everyone that has ran a warmed up, not maxed out, 302 knows they can be ran without overheating, even in Texas heat.

No obstructions. I got a really good look when the heads were off. But you are correct. My 5.0 never had these overheating issues and it was more than warmed over

Brand new 3core aluminum radiator installed yesterday. It turned out to be a cluster fuck. The new radiator stood a good 2.5inches closer to the engine than the stocker so not only did I need to get new fan hardware to remove the spacer, I also had to modify the shroud that I built.

I also managed to get the oil pressure light, fuel gauge, and temp gauge working in the dash with some wiring and new sensors. The only thing I didn't get to was installing the factory reproduction cigarette lighter. For next time....
