My dad and brother made it through without incident in Port St Lucie/Stuart. They said they had 70+ sustained winds and 100+ gusts. No power now (running on generators), but no damage to either house. My brother's street flooded, but didn't get up to the garage. He had to help a lady and her kid out of a stranded car. Sent me this picture yesterday afternoon.

My sister and nephews are 35 miles east of fort myer - she said they hunkered down, road it out. She said it was crazy windy, lost the porch off their house and the town is a mess with trees down everywhere (her husband is out this morning with their sons chain sawing trees for neighbors).

Looks like my FIL's house on Sarasota bay did pretty good. About 3" of water in the garage and a bunch of branches and shit to clean up.

I have family and friends in Miami and West. Been a tough weekend. Family lost a fence and some trees, everyone okay. Want to get down there and help out.

It's amazing to see when the community comes together and helps each other out during these tough times.

News footage this morning was crazy. So many buildings and boats are toast.

I noticed LOTS of pilings sticking out of the water. I can only assume that the only thing left of most docks. :(

I saw on the news this HUGE lot in Texas that had something like 5,000 vehicles on it wrecked from the hurricane out there. They showed Ferraris, Lambos and other exotics with flood damage too. Gonna be a lot of ruined cool stuff out there.

All that crap will show up for sale in SoCal auctions in a year or so. NEVER buy a used car from Texas!!! :p

I heard a comment on a Saturday morning auto talk show saying 40-60% could, one way or another, find their way back on car lots over time.....:yikes

From what I have seen firsthand, the flooded vehicles have to number over a million from Harvey alone......Irma will just add to that. Gonna be a lot of techs making money on failed electrical systems.

My Sister in St Pete had mild damage and has not had power since 5:30 yesterday. No clue as to when power will be back on.

My Mom in Spring Hill Had cancer Surgery last Wednesday and was Suppose to get out of Hospital Saturday but Doctor would not release her because he didn't feel it was safe for her at home in her condition. Her house lost the carport, mail box and some trees but has power now. All in all we feel good it wasnt worse.

I heard an update from Kenny D wife. Marco Island of Capri. The water surge stopped 2 inches from garage. Windows in boat blown out, haven't been able to assess damage in boat yet because the lift is stuck up. Water came up over dock but did not hit boat. Water also came in upstairs through slider so they have some drywall damage from water leaking into kitchen from upstairs. They have no power at this time and shoddy internet service.

Thanks for that Kenny D update Wendi :thumbsup

By windows in his boat, I'm guessing those would be the tinted cabin windows, that surprises me.
Sorry to hear he's had some damage to the new house interior, but THEY are fine, that's the main thing. :D

Been watching the coverage for the last few hours. Intense is a good term for what I've seen.

I was texting with Tracy (Warlock1) earlier. They were gonna ride it out, but decided to evacuate yesterday morning.

They are ok right now, but hope they have to house to go home to afterwards.
I just heard from Tracy and although they did have minimal damage, they still have their home and are back. [emoji106]

My parents would be one of those sweating, if not for the generator. Seriously, in FL, a gen set should be in everyone's garage.

Yea, I hear ya!
Recently sold my motor home which was the backup during power failures. Looking at 10,000 watt welder/generator as a backup. Probably add a transfer switch at the house panel to make it a quick changeover during outages.

Hopefully Vin isn't stuck in this mess.

NOAA released satellite pictures taken on Monday. I've only been to Key West once when I was younger but it doesn't look too bad.

Zoom in on the lower keys. Once you're zoomed in you can see that it is satellite imagery just for the lower keys.

Damn I wish google earth satellites were that good. It would help me alot with work. Kinda a glimpse of the technology we dont get to see as civilians yet!

It was wild ride,I am at 38000 ft right now heading to So Cal. we lost power for the final time about 12:30 Sunday. The wind increased all day long... till the eye wall hit us.At less 50% of the water was pushed out of the bay we live on.You could walk side to side on land at the entrance of the bay...no water... very strange. We stayed on the middle floor of the house during the real high winds which lasted about an hour. The winds came out the east which hit our house on the side with only 5 small windows.I came out of that room a few times during the eye wall to look though the glass doors it was a wall of wind and water hard to explain and very loud. The boat was on the lift rocking from the wind,I had it tied to 6 different pile, my concern was snapping a pile off. When the wind stopped we were in the eye of hurricane, little cloudy.. no wind. I went outside to look around a lot of trees and anything that grows were just SHREEDED!It was a about hour of calm and then the winds changed 180 degrees for about 3 hours, a lot lower wind speeds I am guessing only about 100 mph.

My Sister in St Pete hasnt had power since Sunday and has been told that they wont have power till Friday ......maybe. She finally had to leave the house today , she took the family and pets to another family member because they were getting sick from the heat and no AC.

She also said people have been yelling at the lineman because of lack of electricity, like that will help.

Dang, at least a couple sunk boats, a couple blown out into the middle of the marshes.

Sunset Key at the very southeast has like 5 boats on the ground around the island :thumbsdown

My sisters place in Fort Myers survived with no flooding and pretty much intact.
She had a neighbor go in to her home to check it out and found mold already. No power, so no AC, or fans. They are bleaching the mold, and might start pulling the drywall apart if it spreads.

No power expected until next Friday, and the temperatures are in the mid 90's, with a lot of humidity.

from just the satellite pic's it's kinda hard to really get a good grasp on the extent of the damage to the sea grasses and mangroves but it appears pretty substantial. I wonder just how much that's going to damage the underwater eco system down there? from our short and limited experience down there it was made pretty clear they are crucial to the underwater habitat. Has anybody had a chance to evaluate that yet or are they currently so overwhelmed with re-establishing basics human life support systems that that's not even really on the radar yet.

The devastation is unreal especially in the Key's so many people will probably just walk away.

On a positive note, while searching the Noaa link I found Grads place in the Key's it looks like it survived.

Watching a guy from the Edison Institute who said there are 60,000 people working to restore electricity all over Florida. Some on loan from as far away as CA.
