Here is the specs on Class C, Notice the wheel base lengths.https://www.thormotorcoach.com/fourwinds/specs/
and if you look the 158 is their shortest wb,... but their shortest rv is 24' ,... most all have put the 22'rs on transit chassis... they don't have the 18,500 lb chassis,.. and they don't have the hp and torque...I had heard that ford quit the 138 chassis... but I have one so guess not... anyway,... shes a rocket now..

so my usual mod is to go to 235-85-16's, they are 2.4 " taller....but they might not fit...the stock tires are way too small, and it spins to many rpms.....so I was thinking of try'n the 215-85-16's... little over 1'' taller...anyone here run those??? ive ran the 235 and 245 75's but they get too wide on the tread.....6'' wide rims is all you can get in truck rv wheels..

another suspension mod,... went with these... https://www.supersprings.com/shop/ssa34/ they add 1900 lbs to the spring rate and help with the much needed tongue weight rating..also reduce side sway by 30 %... the one I got are adjustable ,.. but if more is needed they go all the way to 3000lbs.and add 2'' lift

coming back from beach rv, you could turn the wheel from 10- to 2 and it kept going straight...if you glacnced in the mirror you were off the road...trucks passing was another treat

Michelin put out an video about what to do if you have a blow out. Don't hit the brakes. Instead hit the gas to keep you straight, then slowly slow down and come to a stop. This was also suppose to help with keeping the tire from shredding and beating up the motor home.

Anyway, after I saw that I thought about all of the times that a big rig would move me over when they were passing me in my class C. I started slowing a few MPH when I saw a rig coming up to pass. Just when it gets to the rear of the motor home I would floor it. Always stayed in my lane after that.

I got this little coach doing real well so far...80 mph...straight as an arrow...of coarse, I don't drive that fast, but did on the test..lots of parts ordered, bigger sway bars, new tires and wheels, sumo springs,I'll re-address the front springs after all is done..these little coaches will go down the road over 20k lbs with ease...so pulling a pontoon will not work it hard at all...as far as power,.. the new gas V8 make it even better,... they should start hitting the street in a few months...So I might have pulled the trigger alittle early....there not putting the new 10 speed trans, so I don't really think it will be a big game changer, that and it is de-tuned for the rvs...

So I wrote this letter to gulfstream.....we'll see what happens...

I’m also having multible issue’s with this coach…as stated , the side window behind the driver seat….the glass is too long for the thickness of the glass, so what happen’s is this… going at freeway speed…the glass bows out allowing air to come in…. it aslo starts flexing and slapping against the side of the coach… continuing is gonna just break the glass…So what I had to do was seal it shut…don’t really need it to open,… the same window on the passenger side is not a problem because the awning blocks the wind on the front side…..

Next, I pulled the drawer open below the stove…. The whole thing ,slides and all came out on the floor..lucky that who ever installed the drawer,.. they didn’t run the screws right into the water line that was running under the rear support …I had to take it all apart to fix it and push the water line back out of the way…

Next..there are loose boards or just scrap pieces of wood or something in the over head part where the tv is, and the installer ran a screw up through the metal to where you see it from the out side…they just left it that way…gonna have to pull the front entertainment center out to fix the hole… also the the fiberglass over head doesn’t seal to the steel cab and it allows air and water to come in to the unit…I’ll have to figure out the fix once I open it up..also was wondering if the is a gulfstream dealer the vegas area???

Next, the front springs are the wrong weight rating…the coach only weighs 3000lbs on the front axel…this caused extreme positive camber to the front end… very dangerous …the coach goes down the road like a fish on a line… darts left to right….the front come off the pavement when hitting big bumps in the road and also causes the brakes to try to slide the front wheels…also the extreme angle with the front so high is causing the rear to drag on slight incline drive ways and such…

I have solid worked on this coach everyday since I bought it…good thing I have the time to address all of the issues

Next, I bought the coach and paid for missing options…the coach has the 7500 hitch and brake controller option…. But there is no brake controller..

Also… it has the 2 coach battery and slide out tray… when I picked the coach up, the dealer had to install the missing battery, but…. What had happened is this…. They missed the placement of the out side door, so the second battery would not go in with out cutting off part of the access door, which they did and got the battery in,… but…no sslide out tray….the reason I wanted the slide out tray was because you have to do maintaince battery’s to keep them full of water…as is you have to try to remove the battery’s to do this..

Not try’n to pick the coach apart, but this is not what I paid for, the QC at gulf strean need attention….this is all stuff that employee’s GS knew, and sent it out to the dealer anyway…I have to side with the dealer on this one…..they didn’t build the coach, GS did,… but they ended up with the problem..

Soooooo…….question… what is expected of me in this situation???? And what will GS do to help me get this coach fixed???

Regards..

Steve in vegas….

Steve,

The GCWR for this unit is 17500 lbs and GVWR is 12500 lbs. You would have 5,000 lbs towing capacity for this unit.

I am showing that the rear axle weight is 8500 pounds and the tire pressure for the front is 75 psi and the rear is 65 psi.

Thanks,

To say I'm disappointed is understated.... but... this seems to be the American way.... build shit that you have no pride and collect your check.. the QC at American factory's is horrible...and as when I was a kid.... Japanese junk, passed American built and now is the higher quality... and I'm seeing it with china....American made???? ah no thanks...I'm buy'n a Toyota....pretty sure if Gulf stream had to come get every coach that needed repairs and take them back to the factory they would do a better inspection before they left.... but no... they push out junk, have the dealer fix what the buyers find , and then argue the bill down to nothing...and it's not just GS , it's all the American RV and pontoon dealers..forest river probley wins the JUnK made in America prize...I think ford does a good job with the cutaway chassis... then GS made a mess of it...

We have had 5 RVs in the past 8 years and yes they all lack quality. The best part is the drive train.

Biggest problem with the RV industry is, dealers have to fight manufacturers to approve fixes, causing huge delays to frustrate customers in waiting weeks/months t get it done.:mad: If I won the lotto, wuldn't buy anything less than a Marathon or Newell coach myself.;)

Even those Newells and Prevost have problems and the problems they have are more technical and those buyers cry the same way a guy crys who bought a 10k trailer lol. It starts out like this. I spent a lot of money on this thing and it's not right that it has these issues. Something right along that line.
Quality control is definitely lacking at the manufacturer for sure. I have Attitude toy haulers show up with so many problems that we kinda do a quick and dirty inspection before the driver even unhooks it and if we find a lot of stuff wrong as usual we tell him to take it back. We're done getting shit 80% done and we have to try and finish it off. We had one attitude sit out there for over 3 months waiting for a part on the slide out and they never sent it. We made them buy it back.
It's pretty bad how they send crap out half finished or it catches on fire when plugged in,
My buddies shop just had an Attitude do that.
Some are better than others but most need some attention. Especially after a 2500 mile tow.

So I finally got the balls to hook the pontoon up to this rv....found out a couple things,... first the reverse wire is hooked up, so it will back up the trailer...:D.... next…. it squatted the hitch height 1"... but still left the RV down in the front by about 3/8''...and that's with nothing in the rv...the taller tires should make running up hills in 4th just about right....hoping it will pull hills at 3000 rpms...55-60 mph....we'll see...next,.. the stripes I left on the rv match the blue on the pontoon...doesn't get much better...on a budget:D...it will haul 10 to the water... sleep 2-4...

Does the longer overhang help with backing up the trailer due to the hitch swinging to the side more? I've never backed up anything behind a motorhome so hence my questioning

Yeah, that's the case with any tow vehicle when backing up. Have you noticed the overhang making a difference either way in your experience?

it effects tongue weight...trailer loaded wrong will be an ill effect...I pulled a 12k lb 24' box trailer over 100k miles with no problem...but it was set up to do so..same 22' r with 138 wb...it was great for getting around in the pits, and a nice cool spot between rounds to get out of the fire suit...

So with the toon hooked up, I went out to the truck stop to get weighed, the drive out was great,.. little rv towed the toon with ease...truck blow by was minimal, and required no driver adjustments

Steve, does that 10'6" height include the AC and vents on the roof? Or is that the coach itself?

the great news was it came in under weight, total was only 16,460 lbs...6320lbs on the trailer, drive axel...7500 lbs, and steer axel 2640 lbs....so I figure the boat and trailer to be about 6600 lbs...so I can still add a couple more thousand lbs

Set up looks good. Only thing I don't like is the white cab and tan body. Would rather it was all one color.

Got the super springs on the rear today,..and front and rear sumo's...the super springs lifted the rear 1.5''..thats on the lowest setting... but 1.5'' was the target.... so spot on...the sumo's will come in at about 1'' drop on rear...the ride is amazing right now,... but I still have front and rear sway bars coming..
