Well the detailers are almost done. They just have the interior to finish. Doesn't look too bad.

Gotta have some holes filled on the deck where the windshield was. I am thinking about putting the newer style adjustable windflaps on it.

Put that sumbitch in the water and run it :D

Looks good.

It still needs a ton of work. The fuel tanks are about 3/4 full and smells terrible. This thing hasn't been on the water in over 3 years. Can't just put it in the water and go.

Congrats on the '22. I bought one in 2006 and spent about 8 months restoring it. It is a 1974 red and white 22 with wood grain on the gunnels and transom. I bought it less engine with a Turbo 400 and some extremely tired underwater gear. Propshaft, rudder, fin were all bent. I replaced the propshaft, the rudder, the turn fin, the prop. I put all new hardware throughout the whole boat. I re-wired the boat with a custom built harness from L&L Marine, installed new SW gauges, replaced the transom with new wood, put in a fresh 502 BBC, had Art Carr freshen the Turbo 400 and install a manual valve body and convert to a reverse shift pattern. i had the driveshaft serviced with new U-joints. I installed new stuffing boxes andput in a new stereo system. We use the boat up on Lake Mead with my Dad and mom and their '22 which I grew up in. Dad has owned since 1980. Good luck with your restoration.

The Jones tach is staying. :thumbsup:D

It's cool as hell, but how does it work when the trans is in 1st gear? It should read fine in high (1:1 tranny ratio being assumed) but does it read 1/2 speed in low?

Didn't mean to "Thread Jack", just wanted to show pictures of what sounded like a similar boat.

Well upon further review it looks like the blower is gonna stay on for now. Getting ready to start ordering some parts for this thing. So someone buy my Howard so I can get cracking on this new ride.

Any ideas of how fresh the motor is or how much power its making? I imagine that small blower only makes about 75-80hp on top of the BBC.

Whats the plan for the boat?

Looks sweet, blower has nothing to do with it running shitty except for the fact carb on top of it. I would dial up the carb and wiring and run the shit out of it until you figure out what motor you want. thing is a pig your going to want the extra ponies.

No idea the condition of the motor. Its got Merlin iron heads on it and ARP head bolts that I can see. Wilkes says he has a way to find out what the compression ratio is without pulling the motor apart. Gonna pull the valve covers and see whats under them. Have a full MSD ignition setup too. I've been talking to Wilkes about the whole project and hes gonna help me out along the way so I know I'm in good hands. He already got me a nice set of exhaust so I can ditch the logs. Also hes gonna make up a wiring harness for me to make rewiring it easy. I gotta sell the Howard though to fund this thing. We're gonna freshen up most of the drive train and make sure its in good order and I'm gonna use the thing. I'll worry about reupholstering the thing later as its not that bad. Mostly gonna work on the things it needs to make it reliable. Somewhat reliable anyways. :smackhead

Thats what I figured. I already got someone good to go through the carb. I think the problem the old owner had with it running bad was electrical issues. All the batteries connection were loose, theres a shitload of splices everywhere, and when I removed the MSD box the back plate fell off the thing.

So I messed around with the boat a bit today. Pulled the carb off. Pulled the plugs and valve covers. Sure enough its got Merlin iron heads and crower steel roller rockers. Also seems that its got a solid lifter cam in it. Can't tell if its a roller. Now the bad part. Tried to turn the motor over and it seems to be locked up. I squirted WD-40 in the plug holes and I'll try again tomorrow. :headscratch::eek:

If you plan on running it as is or salvaging it, I wouldn't do that. Its a lot more work but I'd pull the thing down a little and check the journals, bearings, and a few other things before you go too far. jmo

If I pull it out its getting rebuilt or I'm gonna throw something else in it. Not really worried about this motor.

Then it it with kroil & starter fluid, that outta get the heart pumping :D

This wouldn't be the fist time I've had to get a motor free'd up. Its been sittin outdoors for a few years so its probably got a little rust in the bores. :smackhead I just wanna get it running good enough to water test it and check for vibrations, leaks, etc.

Park? are you kidding me don't you start your car in park? Even with the coupler and drive plate the Park pawl only holds the output shaft. :headscratch:Just my .02
I'm not knocking you just trying to be helpful. Park is fantastic when you need to tighten or loosen the prop nut though.
djunkie I'm local if you need help send a PM.

I'll have to see what it looks like when I pull it out. Not sure what froze up. It does have some good heads on it though.

Wilkes is working on a quote for me right now. But I migt have found a good deal on something already. ;)

V drive Shiada needs atleast 800hp to be part of the in crowd;):skull

Not to mention it will take that many ponies to push it to the same speed as your i/o 350hp Howard...lol:D

Will it have a fogger system jetted for 250hp with a 15lb bottle?:D:skull:bowdown:

No. I don't think it would need it. That motor should be able to get it in the mid to upper 70's. It makes over 750ft lbs of torque. Those guys are pretty sharp over there and the offer a warranty on it to boot. :thumbsup:D

If you lie and say 100mph with 750 hp I would be alot more impressed:D:bowdown:

How goes the tear down?

Re wiring the whole thing and cleaning up the rats nest?

Whats the plan with the gauges, steering whel and gel work?

Lets see some pictures of her all cleaned up already!!!:bash::D

Its in pieces right now. The interior is cleaned up and at my buddies shop. I'm gonna rewire it soon and put in new gauges. Gotta order them this week. Also I'm just gonna put a new Grant F-9 wheel on it. Gonna pull the motor, trans and v-drive in a couple weeks and start sending it all out. Motor will be the last purchase. I wanna have everything ready for when I get it. Couple pics after the detail.

Looks great...any major issues or spots that wouldn't clean up?

I have only been in jimmys 22' and the boat seemed pretty dam deep up towards the dash. Does yours feel the same way or is the flooring different becuse the open bow?

What are the future plans for interior and stereo?

Theres some holes on the top deck where a windshield was that need to be filled and 1 spider crack I found but other than that its really not bad. I still may go with a small windshield but I'll decide on that later. Interior is ehhhh, so so i guess. It'll get me buy for a couple years I guess. The wrap around seating is cool but when i redo it it'll get 2 buckets and a bench in the back I think. Theres not much of a back rest for the back seat and I'd like to change that when I do the intrior along with a hatch with no holes in it. The motor I want will fit under a sealed hatch. It does have a pretty deep feel to it which is nice. As for the stereo, who knows. I'm pulling the 2 subs and JL amp out of the Howard and leaving the rest in there. Everyone thats called about the boat doesn't seem to even care about the stereo. You can see in this pic how the floor steps down from the drivetrain cover. This thing has wayyyyyyyy more room in it than the Howard. Too bad it won't be as quick or ride as well. Should be a fun cruiser though. I also put a pic of the hole in the deck where the windshield was. Other than that everything else is pretty damm good. The detailing was what it really needed.
