I’ve owned my own small construction business and I’ve worked for the man too.

There is no comparing the two. They’re so vastly different and the two sides don’t understand the language the other is speaking.

You haven’t lived an exciting life until you’re trying to cover a measly $20k payroll after your jobs have been rained out for a couple weeks and the developer is stretching you out 120 days on your draws.

There’s two sides to the coin. More money more problems.

Be the man or work for the man. Be happy with what you choose.

My Boss is making me work today? Do I have to no but 2 of my guys Sunday job is not going and they asked. One of them has worked the farmers market for as long as I can remember. 7 days a week every week he works to provide for his family. He is a hard worker.
I used to that and would again if I had to. But my hustle is limited to Mon-Fri and every other week Mon-Thurs.

Four day work week with holidays and lots of vacation time doesn’t suck. 😁

At the delegates meeting now. Introducing a new HRA fund. 50 cents an hour. Another dollar to annuity, dollar to the hourly, and .25 to pension. Forget where the rest went but it check the minutes
HRA I believe is a tax deferred account that can only be used for health care purposes. Basically prescriptions or cost your health care didn’t cover. With the amount most union employees pay per hour for health care it should cover 100%. That’s another discussion though. A dollar on the check is a freaking joke. The members basically lost money as their buying power went down. Inflation is outpacing their raise. It’s an example of the system destroying the middle class. Unfortunately the trades are done unless you’re an owner. You can’t make a great living working 40hrs in the trades anymore. Pretty unfortunate really

I think the idea is for it to help members who don’t have the work hours and lose coverage or for guys that work more seasonally. It was also kind of talked about as being used after retirement. Honestly I still have a lot of research to do on the whole thing, we didn’t really jump onto it.

With a family of 4 you will burn through.50 an hour long before you retire. 1000$ a year goes quick.

I don’t plan on using it before I retire. The amount will go up just like annuity has but they need time to figure it out

We started a similar fund that helps the retirees with their monthly medical payments to keep the same coverage we had when we were working. I think its still 5 cents a hour. As a retiree, my monthly bill for full coverage is $340.00 for all of my family with a $400 deductible. .

lol I have a lot of thoughts about your lifestyle too 😜

Yore idea of hustle was selling the Parker pad and your dad’s boat. Mine is a little different 😎 lol

I sold the boat because my mom needed funds. I didn’t benefit from selling the Parker pad, but in retrospect I should have bought it.

Vic you are young and have a pretty narrow view of the world and honestly have very little clue of what it’s like to really really work your ass off or take a gamble like that.. it is literally jumping off a cliff without a parachute.

I don’t mean to be insensitive about that, but I do feel it’s the truth. Until you sign the front of checks and have other people depending on you, you will never know what it takes.

While ya might leave at 5am, at some point you do come home and you leave whatever it is at work. When you start something of your own it isn’t 5am till 4pm or whatever the hours are.. it isn’t taking some extra classes and getting certified. It is all day all night 7 days a week until you get your first victory.. and then it is repeated challenges and victories (and failures) after that.

I could tell you stories all day long (even recently) where 20 hr days are literally the norm..

Do I fuck around a lot? Hell yes I do.. do I drink a lot? Hell yes I do.. but when the rubber meets the road, I get shit done, and I do it to a level that very few can.

However when I’m done doing whatever that task is sometimes I rather enjoy hitting the reset button before starting the next project, task etc.

You or anyone else can judge me all they want. It honestly doesn’t bother me, because I realize you don’t understand it. I mean like any of it. To build something from nothing and Make it successful takes ann incredible amount of effort. Especially if you’re working without a net. Meaning if you fuck up you don’t get some bail out, you lose it all.

Like I said before, start a business, any business and make it successful then you will know. Most the business owners on here (or hell all of them for that matter) know exactly what I’m talking about.

It’s 11:15 at night.. my day started at 6 taking the kids to school.. I took the day off today and still did more shit then I ever did working for someone else.

Stacy got home about 30 minutes ago.. her day started at 8 with real estate till about 6.. she went to my shop and was doing supercat paperwork all night, now she’s on the couch doing more re work.

Tomorrow I will be working.. the hours will once again start at six, and end about midnight (or later). It is just part of daily life anymore and I don’t even think about it. Putting on supercat while keeping all the plates spinning? That’s fuckin hustling.. I realized this year I’m not as young as I was once because that almost killed me. (Like literally working oneself into the ground). But we got it done and will put place in plans to make it easier next year.

Man, this thread HAD the possibility of delivering the goods with names like Fuckstick and Danae......what did we get out of it, one moderately sultry pose?? Yet here we are, somehow we've managed to turn it into a pissing match about who works harder or who has a better pension. Jeezus!!! 🤦

What a complete let-down! 🤣

This is 100% true statement. Just cause google says your hours are x-x doesn’t mean that’s what the business owners work. Yes we have our benefits no doubt. But when it’s work mode day or night. All my customers have my direct cell number it’s on my business card for even new customers. Keep in mind I ship all over the U.S and for that matter actually world wide just not as frequent. Like you stated there is no off switch. Not dogging on it but everyone who is an employee not and employer doesn’t get to sit on the beach on vacation and not worry about their phone ringing or someone needing to get ahold of them. I respect you Dave. Weird how people remember certain shit about ones life that was read maybe once over the internet and thrown back at you when they need it for fire power.

Nothing says entrepreneur like writing employee paychecks and going home and telling your family we can’t go to that fun thing this weekend because you didn’t get a check yourself even though you have 50K in accounts receivable owed to you…….

Is it just me or has the “we’re here for a good time not for a long time” thing taken over, the deeper meaning of life is gone and now everything is just shallow and vain?

I’m one of the believers that social media and the Internet is 100% destroying society and these people with their fucking huge Instagram followings and “look at me” attitudes is really out of control.

Will fuckstick and people like him come to regret their nonsense later in life or will they die early doing something stupid? Which is better? To die young and dumb or live long enough to regret the time you wasted being an idiot? Is there another path?

I feel badly for my 2 children and the ones to come. This world is falling farther from grace daily.

We have defiantly come full circle. For years people on here told me my priorities were mixed up and I worked too much and didn’t spend enough time with the family. Now I’m being told I don’t know what it’s like to work and I’ll never understand 😂😂😂 this place has always given me a good laugh for sure.

My dad was an engineer and inventor. I am curious what business you are referring too? My last job I had working for someone else was for @TBulger roughly 22-24 years ago.

I lost my little aerospace business when Obama downsized the military because I had too many eggs in to few baskets. After that we moved to Havasu because I couldn’t afford the rent on my building anymore. We had cheap patio furniture in our house, and didn’t even own a tv for the first two years of living here. I regularly borrowed money from a neighbor kid that was flipping boats, to make the mortgage. 😳. I was doing all kinds of odd ball shit every week to make ends meet, and then decided to turn RDP into a business.

Honestly the only two things I’d change in all
Of that is I wouldn’t have gotten tv’s.. and I should a kept my machines in my garage. lol. Now I spend 4k a month, barely use them and my garage is full of kids stuff and a wreck.

My mom is still alive Vic.. I’m not sure if you understand how inheritance and trusts work?

It is your assumption that I I die and Stacy carries on that Daniel gets some big lump sum or something? Lol

I don’t care about any of that it’s none of my business. I just thought the statement that you started with nothing was a stretch. But I stand corrected you are 100% self made, started with nothing 👍

Oh I’m not worried about it.. I like ole
Vic. I am still a little curious as to how he thought I was taking shots at him by saying I was reeling from the work ethic comment..

I am a little surprised at the rest of it though. My life is about as open book as it gets, both good and bad. Not sure where he got the bum info from.

Well I had a good dad that taught me some important things like critical thinking. To answer the immediate thing though yes Stacy and I started our lives with very little, then we got some, lost it and did it again.

To the more long term thing I’m not sure why providing an easier start or a head start for one’s kids would be looked down upon. I can guarantee you that if I’m able my kids will have the best opportunity I can provide for them.. because those are the people I hope take care of me when I’m old.. and I don’t want to live poor in their house. lol

THIS!

I had to refi my house at nearly 7% because of all the rain. Basically 2 years from October to March riding the financial struggle bus.

You cant just send your workers home when it rains. I ended up paying them so they would NOT go look for other work. Several of my guys have been with me for 15 years plus. My payroll only is about $25K a month, and nothing for me after I purchase stupid expensive materials, fuel/gas, payroll costs, work comp, etc.

Were back full bore but it will take over a year to get back to where I was. Maybe longer.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it at all. Some people are more blessed than others. Growing up My parents were never well off and weren’t business owners. I wasn’t brought up with money that’s something I’m trying to do for my kids. I wasn’t brought up going to our lake house on our fancy boat. The niemans introduced me to the river and custom boats. It goes back to the hustle thing which again everyone will define different. I hustle my ass off so my kids can grow up with more luxuries than I did. I think you feel like having a union job guarantees a 40 hour a week check. It doesn’t. When that business owner has no work and no money to pay you you sit at home with nothing. It’s up to the individual to hustle up work and get the money to feed his kids and pay his rent or mortgage. I think it’s safe to say will just won’t ever agree on what hustle is and who has it and who doesn’t. I know how hard I work, my family knows how hard I work, and most people on here whether they will admit it or not know how hard I work. Just like you say about yourself I work at a level most people won’t or can’t. I don’t own a business but I can say without a doubt in my mind I put out more effort than most on a daily basis. You can ask all the parents of the 3 teams I coach and they will all say the same thing. We have no idea how he does it or when he sleeps. Went to bed at midnight was up at 330 in the gym by 430. That’s normal everyday shit and been that way for a while and will be that way for a while. I’m sure you could teach me all about hustle on the ball field and in the gym too though 😂

Not so much on the ball field or in the gym..

Curiously though, this part of your post..

Doesn’t that bring us full circle to the thread about unions, developing your own work and how it’s discouraged etc? lol

If fuckstick is being picketed, I’d go out of my way to help him get biz, because I respect his hustle.

THIS!

I had to refi my house at nearly 7% because of all the rain. Basically 2 years from October to March riding the financial struggle bus.

You cant just send you workers home when it rains. I ended up paying them so they would NOT go look for other work. Several of my guys have been with me for 15 years plus. My payroll only is about $25K a month, and nothing for me after I purchase stupid expensive materials, fuel/gas, payroll costs, work comp, etc.

We’re back full bore but it will take over a year to get back to where I was. Maybe longer.
Some good business advice I once got is summed up in One word: 1099

I celebrate all of my friends and buddies successes, no matter how or where they made it from. Envy is a nasty thing.
