We are basically all our own contractors. The union doesn’t find us work. It’s our job to hustle and get it ourselves. You build a reputation and that’s how you land on the next job site. When one job finishes you are laid off and need to go find another. The union has no issue with side work. If that’s what you need to do for a while to make ends meet go for it. It’s when you go work for the non union guy and train our competitors it’s the issue. Through my hustle I became a sharpe guy so I didn’t need to bounce around looking for work sharpe always kept me busy. Most guys aren’t as lucky or their skills aren’t there or whatever the case. I work very hard and I’m good at what I do but there’s been plenty of “luck” or blessings along the way. There’s no hand outs or free rides just because you are a union memberNot so much on the ball field or in the gym..
Curiously though, this part of your post..
I think you feel like having a union job guarantees a 40 hour a week check. It doesn’t. When that business owner has no work and no money to pay you you sit at home with nothing. It’s up to the individual to hustle up work and get the money to feed his kids and pay his rent or mortgage.
Doesn’t that bring us full circle to the thread about unions, developing your own work and how it’s discouraged etc? lol
If fuckstick is being picketed, I’d go out of my way to help him get biz, because I respect his hustle.
