Thats a good question. I was pondering this exact thing driving home. Was it worth me selling everything and being without over the course of 2yrs. Hell no.Living in the western states and having to climb grades at altitude everywhere definitely gives most of us a different (jaded) perspective on truck buying and what is needed to tow.
When I go back to the Midwest there are more gassers in the campgrounds than diesels- and the majority of them are small blocks.
How do you like the Ford 7.3/ fiver compared to your Ram 6.4 Bumper Pull? Is it a night and day difference?
Power wise they are pretty similar. But keep in mind my Hemi did have 4:88 gears which help allot. Also I think the bigger difference is how much more wind you plow with the height of the 5th wheel. That front cap is way above the roofline where bumper isn’t.
I would give the advantage to the Ford. That being said if I was hauling a 4 seat SxS on a regular basis or a bigger toy hauler I would pony up the extra 10k for a diesel. I think this is probably the Comfortable limit for this truck. Will it pull more? oh hell yes it will. But mph would take a hit going up hills.
For what I’m doing and how the truck is being used I would take it every single time over a diesel. Mainly due to cost and the reliability risk of the diesel.
