I agree. However and I would be more than happy to do this. We should let some one smoke and someone drink and see who is more impaired. It's absolutely ridiculous to say it's safer to let someone drink a beer than take a hit and drive a boat. Even worse when that translates to buying guns. Impairment is impairment I agree but in no way will I ever say weed is more dangerous or deadly than beer.
Back in 1996 I worked in a "dry" Eskimo village in Alaska. Every once in a while somebody would bring a suitcase of liquor back from Nome or brew up some home brew though, and at those times the village got pretty violent- lots of domestic abuse. I started anecdotally thinking about whether people were more or less likely to be violent when drunk or stoned on marijuana and ever since have been supportive of legalizing marijuana. The law has not caught up to my personal opinions however. There is also some interesting research on how specifically alcohol and marijuana affect our brains and whether one type of impairment is worse than another- but bottom line is don't drive if you are impaired by ANY substance including legal prescription medication.
