That drum (it isn’t a barrel) is actually kind of strange looking?
The rib count is wrong for most modern 65-85 Gallon overpacks? Or rather the spacing is wrong.
But it is an overpack for sure.
I’ve only ever used 55 gal and (mostly) 85 gal overpacks. But that one seems like it’s bigger and has an extra spaced rib, at least in the picture.

85’s have 3 ribs usually, but the spacing is not quite right?

My wife saw on SoCal Jet boats (Facebook group) that someone was commenting on the drum, he recognized it as being pre 1990.

Sure are a lot of dudes on hear that have extensive knowledge on body disposal
Lol
I don’t know about body disposal, but I’ve shipped a LOT of overpacks both full and empty. And dug up and EPA triple rinsed tons of old barrels.
The DoD LOVED to bury shit!

It would make sense. The work I did was early 90’s, and the drums had different rib spacing.
Of course that by itself doesn’t mean a lot. It just doesn’t look like a modern overpack.

My grandfather lost the Major of Brookfield IL election in the 60’s because he decided not to accept the Chicago mob support. The stories he told before he passed were crazy.

My buddys dad was played by Don Rickels in Casino. His dad consulted on the movie. Interesting to hear his storys growing up in Vegas. Its movies to us, but it was real life to him. I could listen for hours.
I grew up here. I've said it on here before, Vegas was a much better and safer city when the mob was running it publicly.

As with most of you this is fascinating because of the history of Vegas and the mob, this could be nothing more than a pedo that got dumped by his victims dad or it could be everything.

Wasn't this the same guy that was wanted for murder and was on the run for like a year? If so i saw his wanted picture at road runner on the bar.

Pulled a black SUV out of the water, not sure where but maybe he offed himself? Anyone have more info?
It was his suv. Heard he was bound up.

So the question I have is, Was this person alive when put in barrel or killed and then put in the drum? Seems like a lot of work to dispose of a body. Load it, move it with a capable vehicle, load it onto boat, then drive said boat out on lake then dump it after putting a few holes in it so it doesn't float. Not that I know much about body disposal but.... I can think of other easier ways I guess. A 55 drum is good I suppose for the least amount of clean up or blood trail.

Well, if it weren't for drought and low water level, it would still be there. 40 years is a long time, and would have been longer. Freshly disturbed earth, tire tracks in the desert...tracks to cover. I wonder if there was a rental place there at the time with mob connections, or maybe a houseboat?

Benny Binion days it's how they handled cheaters.
Probably see some old style slot machines with the reels lined up on Jackpot.

That’s an 85 overpack.

I'm assuming 85 gallons then? about 50% larger? Fuck even harder to move then...
Yeah 85 gallons.
They are for “overpacking” smaller drums and other hazardous stuff.
They are coded for different types of wastes.
Steel ones are basically painted with corrosion resistance coatings and then there are different plastic ones for acids and stuff.
Steel ones are like $350 and up.
Basically DOT requires most hazardous wastes to be double packed. So like 55 gallon drums used for disposal would be placed into a 85 overpack and vermiculite and placarding added as per 49 CFR regs for shipping.
Overpacks have removable drum lids, with or without spout holes depending on the rating.
But all are designed as secondary containers, hence the name.

While we were appearing at the Sands, Moe Dalitz came up to our dressing room one night to wish us well. He recently had been involved in business with the father of one of our band members. I had no idea who he was. The Boss Guys at the Sands sure did. He apparently was known as Mr. Las Vegas. And you got a sense of that just being around him. By this time the Sands was owned by Howard Hughes. We were just a bunch of guys who worked hard and remained together as a band, some since they were only 15. We knew we were really fortunate to have the opportunity. I recall after our well noticed visit from Mr Las Vegas, we experienced even a better relationship with the bosses of the Sands. The were likely thinking WTF??!! is up with these guys?

I remember K-Mart back in the 80's, the whole "blue light special" thing, and liking the cafeteria lol....don't remember if they had a specific clothing line though? Like a Roebuck or something Sears would have?

If it was the Mob, they would of put an oxidizer in with the body and poked holes around the barrel to let air bubbles out. That shit would of been all gone in a year. So I've been told.😎
I had 100# of flaked sodium hydroxide left over from a project and placed a few pounds in a sealed container for future use. Opened the container a few days back and it appears that it has started some type of decomposition while in the desert heat. Must be all sorts or uses for this shit.
