Cool, new stuff to look up!
Cool, new stuff to look up!
Timed fuel injection. Rotary valve to control the fuel. Mercruiser had this type of setup on their offshore race motors. What's the story with this Lucas injection setup? I've never seen anything like that, almost like a fuel spider, or maybe a rotary style?
Makes sense. Always thought that was the drawback with typical FI. It could move a to of fuel, but was always showering the valves.Timed fuel injection. Rotary valve to control the fuel. Mercruiser had this type of setup on their offshore race motors.
Big ol' crank driven 427 FE low riser in that Inboard Specialties ad!
I think that's a Pratt & Whitney J-48 turbojet engine. Pretty cool.
Digging the Hallcraft avatar!

This is great info! I didn't know they were using v-drives in offshore boats at that time.
I had one these with an Evinrude, talk about a handful at speed.

I did he ran a Spectra 19How many of you outside of Twocents knew Paul Newman was a jetboat racer back in 1976? The Rio Balsa's race was in Mexico went for 6 days. Paul Newman's boat was a twin Chevy jet made of Kevlar.

I believe this was the same year that Wiley Poole (son of Trailer Boats magazine owner/publisher Ralph Poole) was entered in the race as well. I'd have to check but I think he might have been driving an Eliminator. How many of you outside of Twocents knew Paul Newman was a jetboat racer back in 1976? 1971!What year-ish would that Hallett/Barron ad had been from.
Also pretty fascinating that they were selling in Atlanta and Indy.
That's bitchin.
Billy V and I went to high school together. Spent plenty of time on the original Mr Toad. Had the honor to ski with Butch PetersonJerry....you're killing me with this walk down memory lane. I vividly remember nearly all of these examples.
The girl "skiing" in the red bikini in the Harmanized ad is Dawn Clark -- I used her a number of times for Powerboat merchandise ads when I was editor at the magazine. She also went to school in Chatsworth with my wife. Dawn also appeared in the movie "Stripes" with Bill Murray.
The "Profile: Motor Magician" article about Larry Comstock was someone my dad and I knew well in the 1950s. Comstock Marine in west L.A. was a happening place at the time. My dad bought a 14' all mahogany Rockholt runabout built in Marysville from them with a 35hp Johnson outboard.
The photo of the #48 "The Toad" was a custom built one-off Schiada for the Bill Vogel family (father and two boys). It started out from the 24 Schiada hull mold but Leonard shortened it to 22-foot to fit the POPBRA Sport class rules. It was powered by a single stock MerCruiser 482 tall block/475HP.
The article (one of mine) "Pure Performance Will Never Die" about Bob Fox, owner of Performance Unlimited in Culver City, was from the mid-1970s. A few years later Fox was briefly a sponsor of the Catalina Water Ski Race.
And, the the Carlson High Performance ad featured Gary Ferguson who designed and built a bunch of new models for Glastron Carlson and later
Advantage Boats. Gary still lives in Lake Havasu.
And, if you were a boater in Los Angeles in the 1950s and 60s, you definitely were acquainted with "Johnny" Eygabroads' Boats & Motors dealership in Inglewood, CA. Again, my dad and I bought several motors from Johnny over the years.
I never thought I'd be this old!!!
