Funny in post 153 the boats standing upright and stacked like surfboards. Ready for you to pick your favorite color. Can't imagine anyone doing that today.. Can you imagine Dcb, mti or skater doing that.

This ad reminded me of Flipper, the dad was in law inforcement and he ran a trihull two motors I thought what a badass boat!!
I was hooked started to build boats with my leggo and carried over to my adult years, I was in my early 30's when I bought my first boat. Would have been earlier but ex wanted a pool first, hence she's my ex LOL 😆

In 1956 a new 21' Cobra like this one, replaced the aging early 50's 19' Racing Chris Craft my dad and his buddy used for water ski racing, including the CSR several times.
The boat was outfitted with a real automotive spring seat and a new Chrysler Hemi to replace the stock flathead I-6.
This boat bottom had a sharp entry, but seriously flattened out past the mid-section and had a turning fin.
I loved that boat, but ski racing it revealed an unexpected and unpredictable behavior of rolling over towards the outside while applying power to exit a turn. After the first roll and moderate leg injury, considerable lake testing was done to try to determine the cause and possible fix ---- "Can Not Duplicate" was my dad's final consensus, because we couldn't duplicate the conditions, no matter what we tried.
After the 2nd roll over during a race, the boat was sold and replaced with a 18' Plywood Higgins and shortly thereafter won the Lake Mead Overton 75 miler and the 100 miler the following day, beating their previous Racing Chris Craft driven by the very capable new owner, Mrs. Purcell.
Chris Craft also made an 18' version of the Cobra.
There was one 18' model up at Lake Arrowhead with the fin cut down in half --- it had been damaged in a Texas tornado during transport, fin was busted up, so they just cut it off and made it a shorty half-fin --- actually looked really cool.

Hi Jerry: thanks for the compliments -- those were fun (and very busy) years. I hit my breaking point in the first quarter of 1979 -- in order to make print deadlines for January and February '79 issues, I had to write almost 50 boat tests in 46 days (no time off for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years).

This "Hot Boat of the Month" feature I did brings back a lot of memories -- When I first met Jeff Blosdale, he was a mobile marine mechanic working Marina del Rey and Redondo Beach (King Harbor). He built my offshore race boat at least 6 or 7 engines over a five year span and they were 'killer'. I'm sure a few of the RDP loyalists knew him a few years later when he moved his shop to Lake Havasu off of Lake Havasu Ave. Very sad that he passed away at a very young age.

This is the strut on my Dad's wood decker 63 Spit Fire. He stopped using those water pick up as they always got something stuck in them.
Yea, I’m not a fan of them, but, I did use the strut pick up on these 2 as that’s what came on the boats originally.
The Nordskog definitely had a pretty trick strut on it.
As far as I know neither boat has had a problem.
I’ve got a 1962 Lavey coming up that we are going to change the strut to an 8degree and put a blown 392 in it…she’ll be getting a pickup on the plate for sure.

That sounds like too much. Did you ever feel burned out?
