Don’t mind my golf cart getting douched!!!😂😂🤦‍♂️ I thought the tide was going out (it is) just not quick enough. For reference the water only comes up to the dunes maybe 2 times a year. And usually not this far.

Some solid 15’ swells outside of the break wall.

Decent size in Carlsbad but nothing too big yet. Lots of backwash swells so many of the waves are getting bashed up before breaking.

Breaking inside of intake jetty which doesn't happen very often.

Don’t forget pics for us valley types
I’m still 3 hours out, watching the front yard camera now, looks like I’m getting wet this evening👍

My cove is sheltered so it’s bouncing off the walls on the way in and laying down nice. Outside is big and angry, when it’s like this only a couple standout spots can hold it. I may run around in the morning and take a look to see if it’s holding anywhere.

… But my guess would be you didn’t move…🤷🏽‍♀️
… we were on a bluff right above PCH so physically they didn’t get near us…

I wonder if the tide and swells are large enough that they are going to be going over the seawalls around the Seaward area in Ventura. Our family beach house isn't that much higher than the road elevation at the seawall.

We eventually moved but not because of the storms. Lived across from tuna canyon on PCH. was there when big rock fell and through all those crazy storms on of the 70’s and 80’s. I always find it weird it just doesn’t seem storms like that happen anymore in Malibu.

Rogue Waves - I’ve encountered only one rogue wave. That was off Pt. Conception, in sloppy 10-12 ft seas, in the middle of the night. I was in my stateroom adjacent to the bridge, trying to sleep. I definitely felt it. We hit it nearly head on. The officer on watch later told me, he thought our boat would never stop rising as it climbed up the face of that wave. He really couldn’t give me a good estimate of its height. He felt it was far beyond twice the size of the seas we were sailing in. It did damage our bulwarks and forward portions of the house on that all steel vessel. Just one big friggin’ wave. Then we were back running into the sloppy 10-12 ft seas. Damaged some steel, but fortunately all crew members were ok. Most were in their bunks.

Thanks for sharing everyone !
Serious stuff up there.

Here's a short clip at the LB Breakwater this morning . . . it was a bathtub compared to you guys up there !
Still interesting how it 'runs down' the breakwater due to the swell angle.

How does that affect where my BIL's boat is??

Do I need to head up that way??
Not at all. Harbor is totally chill. Just don’t go out the harbor. 😂

If you actually look out past the sets the water out there is actually very calm. Just a big lumbering swell. No big deal to run in frankly. Just quarter it. I shit you not we ran our top gun out on a day it was 15’ -20’ swells. But they were way spaced out and no wind. We quartered them, no problem. But little unnerving when you drop down into the trough between the swells and you can’t see anything around you but walls of water.

Thanks mang. Chad's in Spangler Hills. That's why it it would be me if anything needed to be dealt with! 😜

Damn! Almost up to Pierpont! My mom called the neighbor and said our house is good. It's only 4 blocks South and about half a block closer to the beach down Pierpont. She did say the first few multi-million $$ house got hammered though.

They always do there with big waves.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen the water smash in at the wall on Seward though. Crazy. Slow the video down and you can see the second story of the hotel take some water.

Glad to hear your folks place is good. 👍

I was on a commercial crab boat Christmas 1976. Captain Glen saw the wave and turned into it. Stood an 80ft trawler straight up, slide backwards and hit the transom in the trough with a rock shaking boom like a cannon. The wave broke over the top, broke out the windows and tore the radar tower off. Both gens went off line and the galley went dark. EM lights came on and everyone ran for the engine room as we rolled upright. The main stayed running and was screaming with all it could give as the boat rocked back and forth. I was 16 years old and all I could do was stand there and shit myself. Went home early for Christmas and told my parents we had engine problems. Spent many summers pheasant hunting with Captain Glen, never stepped foot on his boat again. Him and his crew were lost at sea some 10 years later. I miss him.

Not close at all. Beach is really big in front of our place because of the break wall. And there’s dunes. Dont think the streets have EVER flooded from the ocean here ever. Down on Oxnard shores and in Pierpont streets flood from big waves all the time.
