Any high end UTV is a freaking space shuttle compared to a jeep or a Tucker. Polaris can’t even develop a car any faster than Speed and had to delay their newest cars a year. All of the current cars have 2-3 year development cycles.

Even if the cars come out a year from now, Speed would still be par for the course from a development perspective.

They don’t need to get their asses in gear, they need to make the best car they can with the resources and development time and $$ they have. October.

I don’t know what fear you are referring to. The Speed team seems fine, and people with deposits don’t seem worried.

Go to bed Bob!

At 18 months in, Tucker had 50 cars.
And Jeep had 15,000.

This before 1950.
Speed has 4?

They need to get their ass in gear.

The fear of failure is a self fulfilling prophecy. I smell fear in the water.

Dan'l

Tucked used a helicopter motor and a lot of existing parts.

This thing is ground up.. even the tires.

Honestly I am amazed they are as far along as they are given the scope of the project.

And still at 4 cars.
Hand built.
Wrong crankshaft.
Fucking cool S logo tires though.

These are facts.

Lof will argue, just to argue.

Dan'l

Im
Happy they discovered an issue with the crankshaft. Something like that could actually sink a company down the road.

I went through several motors on my teryx as did many others..

If you guys are legitimately interested you should skim some of the presentation videos.. the suspension geometry, double sheer, bulk heads.. this thing is a beast and worth the wait Just on some of that alone.

These things are gonna be some of the toughest carat out there. Hell they sell an air cushioned seat for g outs, because you will likely break your back before you break the car.

So "some of the toughest cars out there" I have read repeatedly. And I honestly don't doubt that. It seems to me the builder is fighting the progression of aftermarket parts and the latest technology so when he puts the cars out there it is truly a turnkey. I appreciate the dedication to his craft, but the business model is a bit odd to me I guess.

And I am not for putting shit out there that is sub-par, that is not what I'm saying. It just sounds to me like he had a concept, put it on paper, then is using all the pre-order money to pay for R&D and all the tooling needed to build parts. If people are willing to pay and wait then so be it.

One of the funest parts of these offroad toys is modifying them to your liking which I think they are trying to completely eliminate. I guess the only difference will be the wheels and custom paint job once they hit the dirt.

Are you saying Polaris has not produced any new car since speed launched its production? The world wide shortages of shit is the issue that makes most sense to me. Unless people really want to pay a huge premium up front at the current pricing.

And sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but are these cars truly supposed to turnkey Race Cars as in a Class 4 or something?

Those aren’t stupid questions at all.

The sales model is a pretty standard, aside from the fact that you can buy through a dealer or order direct from Speed. The ordering directly from Speed is where all the drama about selling reservations started. Speed stated that selling a couple thousand of these at a discount to early adopters is their marketing plan. Their thought is that people will see the cars perform in the dirt and then go buy one. What is different is that they have been extremely open with the development process, crowdsourcing input and ideas along the way.

The cars just have many mods and upgrades that many elect to do to a Polaris or a Can Am. It is not a turn key race car, but is close to a turn key high performance recreation car. If you look at the cage design compared to a Polaris or Can Am it is the safest car out there. The factory cage is actually race legal if you weld in door bars.

To your point about customization, you can configure your own custom wrap with your own colors, choose your wheel style and color, you even can choose the seat sizes to fit your body type. The car comes with carbon fiber race style seats. Obviously you can still do your own lights and gadgets, but yea, these will be “semi custom” for around the same price as a bone stock competitor’s car.

There have been no all new models in the high performance 72”+ wide turbo UTV segment for 3+ years. Polaris just debuted their new car that competes closely with the Speed car, and we will see what Can Am has up their sleeves soon.

The closest thing your going to get to your speed car for at lest 6 months. Speed missed another manufacture deadline of 2021. Hey look on the bright side that 2020 speed utv you bought will now be a 2023.

Bumping with a quote from the race-dezert Speed thread:

At least Speed owners won’t be breaking any parts this year.

I know nothing about the speed car but seen this today and thought someone out of the 4224 posts may find humor in it.

Update from Todd on IG

Got an email today as well that said I need to finalize before Jan 10th. Couple things in that IG stuck out to me. Orange and blue springs still, meetings starting the 10th, and Todd says "almost" all of everything is ready to go,

Looks like they are in the Open class with four other cars that are not SXS. All of the SXS are in the Lightweight class. CanAms, Yamahas, Polaris, etc. Not sure why. The class categories are hard to decipher.
The Speed car's are not homologated yet.

I follow this thread a tiny bit so I don't know much, but I have a few questions. It looks like Polaris just released their new R model, and I can only assume Can Am will bring a new model shortly, how will these new models compare with Speed? Should be close, yeah? Also, when do you think is a realistic release date for the Speed Car? It has to be this year?

The Speed Car competes well with the new Polaris R cars on paper. It makes a little more power than the top line Polaris PRO R 2.0 NA car on pump gas. Polaris also has the Turbo R out with is a 925CC turbo engine with the same new platform and suspension as the Pro R. That car makes 185 HP or something. The Speed car will race against that car as the Speed car is 999 CC turbo. But power, size and weight wise, it competes with both the Turbo R and the Pro R at a consumer level.

The Pro R will probably end up being another "class" of UTV, as it is bigger, longer, and heavier, and has a bigger engine than current race rules allow.

Polaris by far has a better electronics package, with the electronic shocks and their Ride Command system. All of that comes at an increased cost though. Polaris holds this advantage over Can Am as well.

It is unknown what Can Am has up their sleeve for later this year.

Speed is new, they have something to prove. You will get more for you dollar with the Speed car over a Polaris. Speed is going to be a regional brand in the southwest for awhile, and will likely grow, while Polaris is obviously nationwide.

We will see Speed cars this year. We will know more after the 15th of this month just what that timeline will look like.

Looking at that picture I’m pretty sure speed owners will be in the market for a $2000 upgrade on rims and tires.

Why? Not that it is a speed car to begin with.

Perhaps you are talking about the Pro R? $40k and it does not even come with beadlock wheels.

Max is racing Wildcat with Speed Bandit suspension and other production parts. Last I saw he qualified #77 or maybe that was his draw to qualify. Hard to get any info on Parker 250 race. I thought they raced today but looks like second race tomorrow. Sponsored by Shock Therapy

Looks like Polaris will keep the aftermarket suspension manufacturers busy for years to come! 😆

You better start saving for upgrades if you ordered one. Lmao

Be honest here, guys who attack companies that have products people can actually buy and drive while they’re waiting for a company that’s never made or sold a similar product are always considered dickheads. Except in this thread

Deflect much? How many cars does Speed have in owners’ hands?

Tick, tick, tick while I wait for you to call me a hater. You and Carl belong in your very own thread

Deflecting what? You don’t even own a SXS 😂.

The haters are quite obvious as well, I no longer even need to point you out. You all chase me around the site acting foolish now. :)

Keep jeeping.
