Super nice rebuild - looks great! Did you add the bimini or is it factory? I need something like that for my 21' Cougar.

There was a bimini top on it but I had a new one made. Martinez Marine Interiors did the gel, interior, boat cover and bimini.

Thank you Bill. We will be in Hidden Shores all summer long.

You know what site #? I'm in D40, to the left right when you pull in the gate. We're on the corner with the flag hanging under the awning. Lemme know when you're coming so you can swing by...

I thought it looked like it was welded before. You can see grind marks. They said it hadn't been but I'm not buying it. So it's going back to the shop tomorrow. Hopefully they will fix it.

If it was welded that is total bullshit.

For the amount of money they ransom these things for one would think they would up their casting game.

Is there an inherent design flaw in the merc sportmaster case?

20 plus years old on some of them is part of the issue.

The failure rate of the 3.0 cases to the 2.5 cases in my services any way is pretty vast. Most of the 2.5 cases I service have a far more of an abusive life. The 3.0 castings are flawed with many more voids, pits and thin spots, particularly in the lower pinion bearing area.

Good point, plenty of 30 plus year old CLE's out there still going strong

Im guessing to get a case to fail like mine did someone spun a boat before I got it and put some serious side load on it. Just my guess though.

I wish I had seen this thread before seeing the boat in person yesterday. It really turned out great.

:) I still run a CLE I bought in 1992, Probably has more miles on it than most peoples cars. :p Sucks that I loaded up the two I had a couple weeks ago, they went to Tennessee. Hopefully where you had it done steps up.

Just went thru this thread from start to finish. Incredible re-build! You should be very proud of the finished product!

What are you going to do for a trim/jackplate indicator?

My set up didn't even come with any trim gauges, I go off where the motor is sitting now that I'm used to seeing what level it's at and by what the props throwing up.

I do the same. Start all the way down. Plane out and I have a mental "seconds count" for how far up the jack plate should raise. then trim out from there. Rpm changes, roost height and water pressure: plenty of things to help :thumbsup

Ya same besides jack plate mine has to be adjusted manually which I don't even touch it.

Turn my head and look out the back.

You'll find that you won't move it much after you get it dialed in, unless you really change the weight in the boat. Probably only use it when idling in shallow water :thumbsup
