Lots of us ncaa / international athletes have the same ethic. I have worked just as hard for a fraction of his pay. I think all of us here would for even 10% of his pay.

Sucks he and the 8 others died, but i honestly dont feel bad for him, its the kids and thier parents i feel feel bad for.

He created thousands of jobs across the world and earned millions and millions of dollars for a lot of businesses. Why do you think he was paid so much?

Why would you feel bad for the kids and other parents but not him?

Using your logic, you should feel bad for him also - in the end he is just a guy that died. Just like the parents and the kids ... they are just other people so why fell bad at all for any of them?

I understand you might not want to celebrate him as much as some other people would - but to not feel bad for him, is to say he did something wrong or isn't deserving of anybody feeling bad for him.

I hardly think that because he made more money than me or is more famous than me that he needs to be dismissed as if he were somehow lower than the others in this tragic situation.

Totally agree. Not every pro athlete has that desire to win like he did. Jordan was notorious for calling out his team mates for not being full out in practice. There’s a reason why the best of the best are as successful as they are. It isn’t by accident, and it isn’t just talent that wins team sports.

I found that pretty informative. I was in a chopper a few days before at the Parker 425. A helo is a whole different ball game than a fixed wing, bizarre stuff how they even get off the ground and the pilot inputs are just wild, theres alot going on to keep one in the air.

There are lots of tools available, we don't know yet what the pilot had at his disposal.

The problem with many of those tools is you have to look inside the cockpit for them to be of use. A guy In a high workload environment with rising stress levels might not have the capacity left to look and interpret what he sees on a screen. Let alone the fact he's eyes outside trying to follow terrain.

It is really easy to sit here on a comfy chair and play pilot-in-command, I'm as guilty as most for doing it. It is another thing entirely to be in the heat of the moment trying to figure out why the scenery out the front window doesn't look right.

Ya..based on the visibility conditions present nothing of that made sense. That mans report sounded accurate for the ifr conditions and he spoke as a flight knowledgable person.

When I heard the flight path and weather conditions the first thing that came to mind was a very-very high workload scenario for the pilot. They would have crossed many different airspaces quickly in the S-76. Unsure if their S-76 had synthetic vision or ground proximity warning system (GPWS) installed.

Exactly what i was thinking, he could have flown Airport to Airport IFR.....or as you said, file IFR when he was stuck in a holding pattern. Some helicopter pilots freak me out, flying VFR and scud running following freeways has caused so many accidents. RIP all those involved.

Pilot had 8200 hours of flight time as of last summer,
Was an instructor and had many hours flying in that area per latest

I don’t follow basketball at all I couldn’t pick this guy out of a lineup but all the stuff I’m reading he was a great guy I haven’t read one thing bad about the guy alway did for other so he’s OK in my book rest in peace kid and the others , Good speed :(

What you say is true. After the full investigation we’ll have the real info. My opinion, that helicopter needs to have two pilots, the workload is just too heavy for one pilot to control that very complicated aircraft, especially flying in and out of IMC.

As I said, if the pilot would have filed IFR, airport to airport, this may not have happened.

I haven’t heard, did he have a heliport at his facility in Thousand Oaks?

I don't see a heli port on the building checking google maps. Camarillo Airport is about 10 miles away.

25 year commercial helicopter pilot & 22 in the fire service.
When I drive in to work with single digit humidity & Santa Ana winds, I know it’s gonna be a bad day.
Getting off work Sunday morning and driving home on coast highway ( right near where Koby took off from, I said to myself as I saw a helicopter lifting off ( Jesus this is a bad day to be flying)
I saw he went down 30 minutes later & knew exactly why.
Godspeed to all involved..

This is an interesting thread. My first reaction is if anyone who posted on this thread would have done so if Kobe and his daughter had not been on the fatal flight. Nine people died, not two. However, one is known worldwide for his accomplishments on the basketball court; he was certainly one of the greatest who no doubt touched many people. It’s not that I don’t feel badly for Kobe, his family, and all of those he touched; however, what I don’t recall seeing on this site (and I may have missed it) is a thread on the 3 US firefighters who lost their lives recently in Australia fighting devastating wildfire. Their names are: Ian McBeth, Clyde Hudson, and Rick DeMorgan Jr.

I think many are taking some comments to far as maybe they aren’t expressing themselves to your satisfaction. I am totally in shock and saddened for all involved. But at the same time I do not get reactions (imho) from some who never even meet the guy. For those that did you obviously have a personal connection He was a great ball player as I am sure the others onboard were great people. I know the pain. I lost four family members in a plane crash. So when I say don’t make some people seem like the second coming ..... in normal life this would be a local blip and life goes on.
