33, Self Employed, and do all my banking, invoicing, and 75% of my parts ordering from my phone. My business runs off this 2.5"X5" black thing.

Currently on a Galaxy S22Ultra (got it for $100 by trading in an S7 i had sitting in a drawer for years.) unlocked on ATT network. I was previously on an S20 Note. I'd have to be in severe dire straights to even consider an iphone. probably will upgrade again this winter once they start running deals.

Funny this comes up. My kid wanted an upgrade so we did it thru ATT online. His phone had a little crack in the screen, but everything else is fine. Anyways do the trade in online and bam got hit the $429 for the damaged phone on my next bill.

So watch those trade in offers. I should have just kept it as it was only 1 model older . I've done well just selling our used phones on ebay too. Thought I was saving myself the hassle.

Why pay.
There were 10 million free phones provided by the government in 2013. God knows how many today seeing covid, the upgraded give aways, and they give one to “asylum seekers“

Currently on a Samsung Galaxy S23Ultra that paid about $150 for after trading in our Samsung Note 8. Currently on Verizon.

Costco or apple store "SE" or whatever 3-4 generation old cheap one they have every 2-3 years when the other one breaks.... why people spend over grand on a new iPhone let alone finance it is something I don't get.

In order to maximize trade in value on our old phones, I believe our new Apple iPhones (purchased thru AT&T) required 3 years of monthly payments. Price of the new phone remained the same even when spread over 3 years. But, it committed us to AT&T for that 3 year period.

About 5 - 8 years ago we bought a retro Brick phone and then the 2 g service got cancelled so it was basically trash at that point…

Wife and I would sit in a restaurant and the phone would ring and the looks people gave was classic… nice as a gag gift !
Id go back to a Nokia 3310 lol....at least it had snake.

For 30 years I always had a company phone, well pagers before cell phones. Had old school flip phone, Nextels, BlackBerry, and when iPhones came out we switched to them. I wanted a physical keyboard so I asked my IT guy if I could get a Galaxy S3. He said yes and he was getting the same. It didn't take long for me to start rooting the phone and putting custom ROMs on it. So I was an Android guy from the early days.

When I retired I had to buy my first phone. I was able to trade in one of my kids old phones for a Note 20. When the S23 Ultra came out I traded the Note 20 in. They hook you into 36 months with the trade in. But as mentioned above, $150 for a $1200 phone is worth it for me.

I sure miss free phones and cell service. But hey, it's the price of retirement.

I don’t care as long as my phone works!

I get my wife’s Hand me down phone, She gets a new one and I usually get the old one…
Same system in my house, wife likes the newer phones and I take her old one.

I had one of those, that should tell you how long I have had my number. It 10 cents a minute to call, so I added an extra mile for every minute I had to call a customer.

My phones have been a Motorola Droid, a Blackberry, a Samsung Note 3 and finally an Apple iPhone XS Max.

I’ve been waiting out the iPhone upgrade for the conversion to USB-C for charging so I can dump the lightning cables and have one USB-C for everything modern (other Androids, iPads, etc). In addition the wait also helps the 5G adoption because the radios keep getting better and more efficient and support more of the newer bands/spectrum.

So I may jump on the IPhone 15 Pro Max (or whatever the call it) as my next last upgrade for a good long while. Apple continues to support my XS Max which is why I went Apple originally (F Samsung and their no support after like 3 years) so I haven’t been hurting to upgrade.

I prefer to jump on major tech refreshes rather than minor iterations.

ETA: I was originally on ATT but jumped ship to VZ for govt discount (aint much of a discount) and the fact that ATT sucks where I work/live/play and hasn’t changed as my dad still has ATT and it’s amusing to see him struggle with ATT coverage where VZ is working fine with me. T mobile was never very enticing, and not enough to play the “hop to the next carrier for new deals” game every year.

I prefer to use the phones they give away at the Assurance Wireless popups in parking lots and on sidewalks. I really enjoy my new Iphone. It's nice not having a phone bill and whenever I break or loose one, I just go get another one! Thanks to all the California tax payers. You guys are awesome!

I have every odd generation of iPhone sitting in a drawer in perfect condition. My company sends me a new one every two years if I want it or not.

For got to mention.... When you are on the 36 month contract you obviously have a locked phone. On my recent European Cruise I had to use an old unlocked iPhone to run a prepaid SIM. Much cheaper and I used the iPhone as a hotspot for our phones.

There is a work around for Android folks who feel left out from iMessage. I use Signal and Whatsapp but have tried Sunbird beta.

It needs your apple log in which is scary. Best to create a throw away account.

Financed. Bought a iPhone through Xfinity/Comcast, which resells Verizon cellular service. No interest expense, so why pay cash?

I switched to prepaid AT&T back in like 2016…buy the unlocked phones, and am not pinned to a contract. Would not go back. Partially for this reason

I usually buy the 1-2 year old Pixel model when it drops into the 300 buck range.

Buying the "latest and greatest" for 1k is dumb in my opinion. Since the Pixel 3 the phones haven't improved enough for me to know a difference. The cameras are all great, and all i use it for is email, txt, and camera. That's it.

I had a samsung once and hated it, mainly because it forced you into the samsung sand box, they wanted you to use their apps for Phone, Text, and Voicemail, all of which sucked, and if you used the native android apps it wouldn't play nice. That was the most expensive and shortest lived phone i ever had.

I have the smallest iPhone available. I would really like a larger screen as I spend a ton of time on it. Does anyone have issues carrying around the large phones?

I've always kept my phone in my front left pocket. I had an issue with my Note getting stuck in my pocket all the time. beyond that one thing, I really loved it. but when it starts ringing and you can't get it out of your pocket or more times than not, I would accidentally throw when it would get stuck and finally let go as I was trying to grab it.

So I financed my phone through Samsung at zero interest.

I have the payments coming out of a savings account, that I put all the cash in, to cover all of the payments.

So I'm not sure how I should vote! 🤣

Job Walk videos and a decent camera. All the other features or gizmos don't care.

Come the weekend I put the phone down and don't touch it.

Unlocked iphone XR . . almost 5 years old.
Pre-paid w/ Verizon at $39.96 / month for 15GB of data.
No complaints, & I never go over.
