Still shopping for dually's. Originally wanted a mid 90's to 2k bodystyle. Came across this guy... looks SUPER clean and in great shape. But holy cow batman thats a LOT of mileage. Price is obviously good as well.

what i dont see is the drivers seat... after that many miles its gotta be pretty worn and its just about the only thing they didnt take a picture of.

Motor and Trans rebuild would cost more than the truck! I'm a DIY gear head and love a good project, but I'd pass on that for sure!

dont worry i have a real tow vehicle. it just doesnt get as good of mpg moving my boat around the driveway as the focus does. heh.

ive seen those with over 400k and still in service....

that's what I was say'n years ago... with the million mile speedo people are gonna see how many miles American trucks will really go..

back in the day 100k was the kiss of death cause you really never new how many times it flipped over..''guy would have 270 and sell it as 70k...

I would want to spend a lot of time thinking about it before I did.
Lots of service records would help with the decision.

My daily driver is a 1997 Toyota Tacoma with 319,000 on it. 2.7 4-banger and a 5 speed.
Original engine lost a head gasket at 289. Picked up a take-out with 90k. Front end has been rebuilt.
Runs great, easy to get around in, I will probably keep it another 200k.

Something I just learned is that because the price of oil tanked, you can find better deals on Cummins Dodges and food trucks in West Texas, ND, Nebraska, etc. I'm truck shopping myself and maybe taking a flight to save $5k or so.

I bought a truck one time that had 325,000 miles on it. Mostly because it was in perfect condition and the guy had all the maintenance records.
Original motor!

I drove it for about 12 months then sold it for the same amount I paid for it. I was too nervous driving a vehicle with that many miles on it.
I thought...well if the motor goes I'll put a new motor in it. After second thoughts I said F it and sold it.

Then I bought a newer vehicle that I don't have anymore.

That's what I did when I bought my 03. Flew to Houston Texas then drove it home.
Also Picked up an extra 100 H.P. with the Cummins H.O. motor over the Commiefornia Version.
DMV cost me though in TAXES.

it's hard to change the mentality of the general public... those that work in the industry see trucks well maintained go the 500k and still going...the 100k kiss of death is holding tight though

keep an eye on the exhaust manifold bolts....usally the dr side rear breaks off first... when they go...they take out the cats:eek

It would make a good hauler for materials and supplies. Can't beat a long bed either!
For the money....if it still runs strong....I guess why not!!

be a perfect truck to leave hooked up to the boat at havasu:thumbsup

I'd say but it for that cheap. Shit, that Allison in it should run strong for quiet a while. Those 8.1's are pretty good motors. Just don't expect to see more that 14 mpg. While going downhill with a tailwind. Lol!

These types of trucks are like a china doll from the Titanic, pretty and well preserved but they fall apart once they are exposed to air. If you buy it you need to keep driving it 50-60k miles a year. Buy it, park it, and it'll fall apart pretty quick.

It is kind of cool just for the mileage alone though. :thumbsup

That said if I was looking for that kind of truck and it checked out from my mechanic then I would buy it.
It will take you a year to have any confidence in this vehicle.
One of my work trucks is a 95' F450 with over 350k and gets worked hard with heavy loads everyday. I probably put 2-3k a year in maintenance in it.
My dad had a 84' 3/4 suburban with 750k on it before he stopped driving it. You can run these older trucks but you will be doing repairs here and there.

I wouldn't worry too much at only 135k miles. If you want to feel better replace the alternator and belt. The alternators usually go out about 150k miles and that can leave you stranded if it fails. Other than that most other things go out slow and you hear them coming on and you can fix them.

It's 5.7 I just use it to drive back and forth to work 3 miles each way and around town.alot of the miles were highway going to waterski races all over the place for years.going to start looking into a new/newer truck before summer

I was wondering why all the response to a truck I listed for sale.06 with 136k on the clock. Worked late again and missed potential buyers call tonight. Guess I will just keep it.

One of the best running trucks I owned bought with 270k on the clock. International 466 in a 4700 14' dump truck. Ran like clock work all day every day. figure after a 100k and daily use all the bugs are worked and are solid. It started life as a tow truck then converted to a dump truck which worked out bitchen as it was a low pro chassis so loading my skid steer in it or filling it by wheel barrow was not bad. Thanks to CA smog laws had to sell.

I'm a Toyota master tech and a did a few years with GM. The only reason I drive a GM is because I can't afford a Tundra. I've seen the inner workings of both.

GM has the best seats in the business...Toyota seats suck. Toyota has the best electronics in the business, the domestics have the worst...the Germans are a close second. That truck will need, at the very least, a transmission. The 8.1 is a badass, but that's a lot of miles for a domestic gasser...rebuilds aren't near as good as new, and you can expect at most 100K out of em, with typical rebuilder grade parts and machine work. If the engine was serviced regularly with correct 6094 or now Dexos oil, then it just might be good for ever...but you never know. People always have a reason to sell something....if it's been problem free and so well maintained, why don't they keep it for another 5 years? I suspect they know something is wrong and they're pawning it off. Trust your gut. If your gut questions it, walk away....

I've heard million miles out of the allisen trans if you don't over heat them....

my self , I like to keep stuff that has problems... fix everything and then sell:rolleyes:eek

Everytime I've bought used, I have found the reason it was being sold within 2000 miles.

High mileage Chevy is usually going to need a tranny or engine rebuild. Another member has mentioned the 5.3 and 6.0 have oiling issues, but I think the 5.7 is the way to go as its easy to find parts, spare engines, etc.

I don't know if I would spend $5k for that many miles. I found a clean 92 extended cab with 350 and decent mileage. The link is below...my wifey wouldn't go do it because the flames and bright color, but it's a great deal.

That is apples to oranges just about compared to what the OP was originally referring to.

I had a '93 Yukon with a 350 TBI. Dead solid of a motor. But lacked HP (plenty of torque) and was a thirty beast (I averaged 12 to 13 mpg). The 5.3 is the most popular truck and SUV engine GM has made from '99 to 2013. Not to mention that the 4.8 is damn near the exact same motor just with a shorter stroke. I think parts availability is VERY high for those motors. Personally I'd go with a modern modular engine (4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 6.2) or a Vortec 350 (port fuel injection) over a 350 TBI motor.

I don't have time to read all the posts at the moment, but if you get a diesel, don't get a 02' unless you want to replacing the injectors every 100,000 miles

motor and trans is one thing, but its all the rest of the crap id be worried about, suspension parts, steering parts, door hinges, switches etc. all the little things that are super annoying when they fail all have 500k on them too.
