Lindsay Vonn on deck in Alpine Skiing.
On hold 1 hour.

#toh #tiredoldhag

There is definitely politics involved on who they choose for the team. Is it just me or is truly hard to believe the whole US doesn't have any new up and comers that is as good or better than that old hag Vonn?

What does everyone think of these Americans that can't make the US team so they go and get dual citizenship in another country so they can compete? There were was that snowboarder riding for South Korea who was actually American. Adopted by an American family raised and given a great life here in the US then rides for South Korea. Didn't even make it in to the final 12. Kind of BS IMHO.

Then there was a really shitty half-pipe skier from the US skiing for Hungary. Could barely do a 360 and make it down the pipe. Not to brag, but I was pulling back flips in Mammoth around 1990 on 205cm narrow heavy skis. I also walked uphill both ways in the snow and did my homework on stone tablets.

Lol, I had a stone tablet as well!
Here’s me on my Blizzard 215 Super G’s. Early to mid 1980’s.

That is rad!!! I have very few photos and the ones I have were taken with a disposable crap camera. I had a pair of DH Blizzards as well. I actually skied moguls on them quite a bit as they would hold a sweet line. I don't think people who got in to skiing in the past 10 or 15 years have any clue how much harder it was to ski on that old equipment.

I have not skied since 91. My knees couldn't handle it.

Im buddies with Glen Plake. He is a great dude. Skied with him when I was in high school and he has a house here near Reno and comes in my shop all the time as he has quite a few boats and is a huge water skier.

Lol, back in 1990:rolleyes:
Shoulda tried it in the 70's when your skis were still tethered to your ankles and weighed 80lbs. :p:D
Politics or not I'm not of the attitude to critique any Olympic athlete for following their dream.....even if their dual citizenship allows them to achieve it.

Do you know Greg Tedesco? Plake and Tedesco use to shred Tahoe quite a bit back in the 90's.

One of my all time fav. pics. of Plake

My daughters last day at Olympics she skipped seeing Curling, instead they wandered Olympic Village mostly. Ran into gold medalist skater from Japan. Overall, the town there is small and doesn't have the big city nightlife everywhere.
Then it was time to go back home to Seoul for her. Missed their train and had to really scramble to get new tickets for next one, all trains were booked solid. They managed to get some but had to split their group onto two seperate trains.
Great Olympic experience for a 24 year old.
Sorry I don't have pics to share, she pretty much sent us stuff via SnapChat.

I must have watched these Greg Stump videos with Plake, Schmidt, and Hatrup a hundred times.

are there really no fans watching? seems like most skiing, boarding, bobsledding and most any other event. accept for ice skating.
most seats are empty? I miss the cowbells and roar form the European crowds. not that great of an atmosphere.

You don't think 22 year old Mikaela Shiffrin is a up and coming skier? She has been doing great in the events over in Europe prior to the Olympics. She got the flu bug and had to pull out of some events.

I never said there wasn't great new skiers. Exactly the opposite. That's what I am saying there must be a bunch out there. Yet they bring that has been old hag in. I don't get it.

Maybe the fact that North Korea being a close neighbour, kept the crowds away?;)

ya , I was thinking that. but even the free Koreans are not supporting the events that much. even in the evening, the stands are empty.
like the ski jumps ? maybe a 1/4 full. just lousy support in my opinion.
attendance is a complete failure.
kind of like the world cups. Fifa spends a fortune to put these tournaments all over the world. then after its over. most of the venues fall in disrepair. or hardly used.

Well according to these standings the old hag Vonn is 10th in the world and 2nd in the USA. :D
http://www.fis-ski.com/alpine-skiing/leader-board/

I never said she wasn't good, just an old hag. All I am saying I am surprised that there really isn't any new kids that are better than her in the US? Seems to me the pool to pick from these days is just very small in the US.

while were shitting our self on the top of KT22 years ago. Glen told us to GTF out of the way, as he gets a skiing start to blast over the cornice and land 100 feet down the chute. lol
great water skier also and has a nice hydro.

2010 winter olympics in Vancouver was a success, even though we got screwed by low snowfall in the local mountains that time. Had to transport truckloads of snow to the local mountain events . Whistler was also part of the venue. Vancouver and Whistler provided the necessary attraction to bring the masses in. Europe or North America is definitely better suited for this event.
My son was 20 at the 2010 Olympics and have great memories of it.

Maybe due to lack of funding, or the girls are more interested in snow boarding. Ester Ledecka is a snow boarder and won the womens Super G on skiis. :)

Vonn is pretty damn fast. I would never rule Her out.
She would've had the best time in Super G a few days ago had she not washed out down by the end of the course.
Looked to me a like one of Her skiis couldn't hold an edge. She was coming in Hot. Other than that Her time was cookin fast.

Every event my daughter tried to get into, other than her advance purchased tickets, were sold out. Access to many of the slope events, she said, were not easy. Janky boardwalks, bottlenecks, etc.

My girlfriend is on the marketing team of the Canadian Olympics team. She started with the Vancouver games. So I got into any event I wanted to see. For me it was almost as good as Expo.

ya, maybe the venues close to the city, and inside.
they should have painted the stands and seats different colors to make it look like there actually full ?

Did anyone watch the women's XC relay? The gold medal was cool, but I'd listen to the announcer call a curling match!

See the sore loser Canadian?
She took her silver medal off as soon as she was awarded it.
The Canadians were all about cheap shots and rules violations and now sore losers.

How about that kid from New Zealand who didn't even try to improve his score on his last pass. I don't get it. His chance in the spotlight on the world stage and he mails it in. Scratching my head.........

I saw that run and said to myself what a disappointment. Your on the biggest stage for your sport and Country to only put your tail between your legs. Chloe Kim had already won Gold and could have taken the easy ride down on her last run. Chloe decided to show us one last time why she is the best and surpassed her Gold Medal Run by more than 4 points, she's a Class Act...

David is a really nice dude. I worked at Audi when we first moved to Reno/Tahoe area. When he won his first gold we gave him a car to use for the year for marketing purposes. He was super modest and down to earth every time he came in for service or just to say hi. Glad he came from way behind in the qualifier.

Cheap shots and rules violations ..... lmao.
This is the highest level female hockey in the world -- this isn't soccer or figure skating.... and if you think both sides weren't doing this, you don't know hockey or didn't watch that game.

As for the player taking the medal off because she didn't win --- At this level of play, I would take her on my team ANY DAY.

I watched the whole game and it doesn't get any better than that.
Congrats to team USA and see you Beijing in 2022 :)

David has an advantage over most in his sport and that gift comes from above...

"I can either let all this adversity destroy me, or I can let it temper me into a better version of myself. I can either whine about it, or learn from it. I strive to choose the latter".

The 27-year-old credited his faith with helping him return to the Olympic Games, particularly when he was faced with a seemingly never-ending string of personal and professional challenges. He wrote on his blog that he appreciates “the opportunity to represent my country, my hometown and MY people in the Olympics this year more than I knew I was capable of. I also know that all of this is temporary, and that is ok. Everything that I have is a gift from God, and He can take it away when He wants to.”

Its sort of complicated. Neither of us want to be married. So we date and end up having sex. At the time of 2010 we dated more normal as in a relationship.
