The part is so long it "resonates" and makes a little racket.. For the most part manual machining is fairly quiet, but sometimes there isn't anyway around it.

The L brackets that will mount of the center stringer are machined to length now, and edges are finished off. They will be drilled today, and I'll start on the battery box tonight.

He is starting to sound like the cart guy. "Two weeks", or "when i get home from the river ill get started." So as of today, no new progress.

Checking out the mini threads, I remembered this picture I had...look familiar? I'm working on a mini Daytona and thinking about putting new Honda 50 on it. Anyone have an idea of what the ideal engine weight of these boats should be and what speed I might get with the stock 50?

Is that your mini in the pic? same gel scheme that mine came with, currently at the gel shop going a different direction Honestly i dont have a clue on what motor is best or what they will do. best we saw out of mine before I tore it down last week was 43 with a POS wrong size prop LOL I really think with the right prop it might get close to 50mph

No, I wish mine looked that good. I have a done a lot of repair work glassing in old radio holes, switch holes and screw holes. Had a variety of things to fix but it is coming along pretty good. I was referred to a guy in Costa Mesa (Comacho) to do the gel coat but not quite ready yet. I have a thread in the "gel coat" forum called "first time boat painter" but all the input I got turned me back to gel coating. I also seamed the top to the bottom and eliminating the rub rail...

Being a newer member, you've probably missed this well beaten topic. Seems there are actually few really good options. But, for the best balance for weight vs. hp, an old OMC Stinger seems like a good candidate, won't be as reliable as a new Honda though.

It should start moving at a pretty good pace soon, as it sits between a few threads here (its kinda scattered) you can see the whole deal, ins and outs, successes and failures. This thread is pretty good and after I finsh up the setback bracket i'll have RD integrate that thread into this one and then complete the build updates in this thread.

I'd like to have at least one other manual height setting on the bracket (1" lower), working that design issue out in my head right now. Yes water pressue gauge and tach will be on the final rig, maybe even a speedo.

I deffinately agree, having fine prop shaft height control would be great as well as a box full of trick props I think that the added weight of a hydraulic jack would negate its benefits at this point, as it sits I added a good 25lbs back there by putting a power trim on it. So far in my manual setting design the highest prop shaft setting is 1 1/2 below the pad and 2nd lower setting would be 2 1/2" below the pad. So basically you have 2 settings, 1 person jacked up with a taller wheel for top end and lower setting with a shorter wheel to get 2 people out of the hole and up on plane for cruising. We played around with height and setback a bit, seems to happiest in the ranges it will be set at. best of 43mph before the added weight of the trim unit with a 160lbs man/boy driving. At some point I have to commit to a height and setback and hope for the best with some trick props. Any thoughts?

I don't mean to hijack this thread but since we are talking about the identical boat, do you know how much freeboard there was at the stern when the boat was just sitting in the drink? I am concerned because I had planned to put a 40 or 50 four stroke Honda on mine and weighing in at 214 lbs. I have no idea what to expect. I'm also wondering if there is significant splash over if you come off the throttle too fast because when I got this one, someone had a big piece of plexiglass bolted to the aft rise of the cockpit...hmm, what else could that be for LOL. Appreciate any info on the weight/horespower set-up. I've seen one or two that have 90s on them but the engine looked too small to be a 90.

These hulls do not have much free board. My engine (nissan 40) weighs in around 140lbs on top of that my trim and setback should be about 25lbs. so were looking at about 165lbs of crap hanging off the back. I dont believe we had any issues as those concerns were never brought to my attention by Kyle during the several water tests he performed. I did have him install a bildge pump in anticipation of taking on water (its gonna happen). Since we have already had the boat rigged and on the water I am not anticipateing to much time before its back on the water, maybe a couple months (as I am in no hurry).

I have seen bass boats wedge an inflatable ball (basketball) in their jackplate and inflate it to provide that little extra lift to sneak into a really shallow spot. Something along those lines might be helpful for you with the heavier motor.

He purchased this last week and brought it down to WOT Marine to get it serviced and get it ready for Summer & The Mini Enduro.. The boat is a 12' Daytona that he picked up on Craigslist.

These pictures were taken when the boat was brought here last week. Kyle has already serviced the boat, rebuilt the carburetor, put a new battery in, cleaned the fuel tank, etc.. etc.. and just cleaned up the wiring on the way to the motor (temporarily) until we get into where the final setup is gonna be etc..

The engine on this thing is "cherry" as cherry gets.. Doesn't even look like it's ever been run.

The boat had it's 1st water test today.. It broke a starter mount so Kyle had to pull start it, but without playing with the setup it his 39mph right out of the gate.. We're going to be ditching that whale tale and machining up some new ones to get it dialed in.. Playing with engine height and stepping up the prop pitch a bit to get more out of it.

If you have a mini boat start putting that shit together for the Mini Enduro!
