LOL... Didn't expect the coversation to go that way. I'll say that I wouldn't put the dog through the test to find out, but I'll respectfully disagree.

I wouldn't do that test either. It would be like shooting someone to test my bullet's stopping power.

But I really don't think that a pit bull could last more than a few seconds against something like a Neo or a Kangal. Those dogs have fighting spirit just like pits do and they bring a whole lot more tools into the fight. To me a pit bull vs a neo would be like Ricardo Lopez vs Lennox Lewis. Recardo was a fine straw weight, but he could never beat a real heavy wt..;)

Our current female, Roxy, looks just like Peety. I have had all kinds of dogs in my life from Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs, to ect......

I would trade them all and whatever it takes to have one more day with Bozo our male that we had to put down in December at almost 14 years old.........best dog I have ever come accross in my LIFE!

It's not just the owners. I know a very nice guy that has a great looking pit that is mean as all he##. The guy got it as a pup and wanted it to be a gentle family dog. But it started biting his kids and others unpredictably and trainers etc have not been able to make it trustworthy, so he has to keep it fenced in at the side of his house most of the time and he can't let his kids around it. Dogs are incredibly genetically adaptable creatures. Behavioral traits can be bred into them in just a couple of generations. He no doubt got this dog from a breeder who catered to the flatbillers and sometimes posed as a legit breeder. It's not the breeds fault. Because a bad breeder can screw up any breed just as fast as some breeders have their pits. Disreputable breeders have produced dogs that are born aggessive and with dsysfunctional temperments with many if not most breeds of dog from time to time...

I still say its in the training. My pit that I have now was a stray from Compton, I picked him up when he was around 9mo. He went from the streets to my bed over night. Always been a great dog

Here is a dog that looks cute, but is mixed from 2 breeds of hard core working dog. Not a purebred or a dog for a beginer, but I think it is georgous (probably eat a pit bull for a snack;))

What do you expect, at just 1 1/2 year old, 34 inches at the shoulder, and only115lbs he's still a growning boy. He still most likely has at least about 35 or 40 lbs to go before he's done ;):thumbsup

That's a big 'ol boy! It's not an ad you would typically see in SoCal - Good with goats, bad with chickens:D I have a few cousins in Alabama that resemble that:eek:

I agree. LULU gained around 15 pounds in the last 6 months. She just keeps eating. I think she is done at 120lbs so she is not one of the bigger female Bordeauxs.

If that were true then everytime a pitbull would get into an argument that wasn't intervened on, the other dog would be dead.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that Neva got away from my mom and got into a major tussel with a neighbors dog. Nobody broke it up? Yet neither dog is dead. How is that possible?

The answer is simple.. Something happened in doggy language (I'm not going to speculate what, becuase I'm not a dog)..

They tussel'd a bit and it was determined who was in charge and then it was over. There was a couple stitches involved, but no missing limbs.. No lock jaw, no dead dog etc.. After the husky submitted, Neva got up and walked right over and sat next to my mom like nothing ever happened. The husky did the same from what I was told?

Now I'm not saying I haven't seen a pit go absolutely ape shit on a dog with every intention of killing it. I have, shit i've seen it in my own dog before. I've also seen lots of other breeds of dogs do it as well. There was a chi wa wa in my house at the river, that I swear to god put an extra 20lbs on it, and it would've murdered every living thing on 4 legs for miles.

Truthfully Tony, when it comes to dogs.. As a person I'd be a shitload more scared of your dog coming down on me then your average 50 - 60lb pit.

Pit on person = person whoop the pits ass
Pit on Dog = Dog is getting it's ass whooped (don't much care how big or what breed the other dog is)

people keep saying how dangerous they are... I'd much rather square off with any of my old pitbulls, then a really pissd off saint bernard, or a rottweiler, or a German shepard???? Large breed of dog.

I am surprised the "husky" backed down from your "pit" I have an "OMEGA" Husky and most of you dog lovers would know what I mean. She is the sweetest dog, But she has take a pit to the ground that went after my brother When we were camping at the delta. She is simply gorgeous and is the most loyal trusting dog I have ever been around. My fear is this we were at the lake on the 4th and I don't bring her with me much anymore because there are people who bring these "pits"for "status" to the lake and they are roaming and barking and grawling at the people walking by. I heard this one guy say to a girl in my group watch out my dog will kill you. Now why would I want to subject my little girl to that shit? She is to sweet and all she wants to do is play in the water. Maybe its not the breed but some of these owners need a serious wake up call. Her name is Sky incase any of you have seen her at the dog park in Santa Clarita

Nice looking Husky:beer My Husky's have always been loyal and protective of our family. However, one of them was very aggressive towards other dogs. It sucked but I refused to take him in public due to it. He was raised the same as all our other dogs except for we never cut his nutz off:hmm Don't know if that was the reason but since then we FIX all of our animals we get :thumbsup

I see you are advocating for the dog breed you have. I think the point many have made is that any dog can be a nuissance (sp?) if it's not raised and trained well. I lived next door to a family that had 3 or 4 Huskies. They were by far some of the most aggressive dogs I have ever seen. Even with each other. I even saw the lady of the house get snapped at by one of the males. I believe the dogs were her son and husband's but they didn't obey the mom too well. She hated those dogs which may explain their snapping at her. I would be leary of having a dog that did that snaps at their owner.

Another thing I have experienced with the huskees is that they are much harder to approach. Tell you the truth I am uneasy around large breed dogs who eye ball you. I have been around both pits and huskies. Once I greeted the dog, let him sniff my hand and get to know me they're usually ok. The pits tend to turn out to be just like any other dog. The huskies still let me know "I was on their turf". Just my experience.

I was not trying to advocate the "breed" I have. But with the above comments about your experience Now I will. I'm just stating that I find it hard to believe that a husky backed down. My Is not a Malamute which people get confused when talking about husky's. Malamute's grow up to 85 lbs. Mine is a siberian Husky breed from the chinook bloodline max weight is about 45lb. Half the size of the Malamute. Husky's were breed to be sled dogs and hunters. The eye stare is not a symbol of territory, but a mere watch and learn from what it sees. which steams from the ancestor type's behaviors. A trait of all Husky's is that they study everything around them before acting (unless abused) which is with any breed. They are by far one of the smartest dogs there is. Before I bought mine I did years of research on them. I found a gentlemen in Acton Ca, who breeds them for the movies and for the iditron slede races. I have a buddy that has 3 pitbulls the mother and father and the son he can grab them on command and make them vicious. He thinks its funny I think its wrong. Let me ask you this. Why cut the tail off of something god made? or clip the ears from something that was intended to have ears? and make it look mean? Its called "STATUS". Sorry if I offened any pitbull owners its just my Opinion. We are entitled to them. I would trust a Husky before I would trust a pitbull around kids.

34 inches is a pretty tall dog and 115 is skinney for that hight and the breeds that bad boy is mixed from.

Old English Mastiffs and Great Danes tend to take about 3 years to mature. DDB's and BMs often physically mature in 2. However, I have heard of BMs that have had growth spurts when as old as 2 1/2 years old. All of the mastiff breeds are slow maturing dogs and are pretty much big pups for their first 3 years emotionally.:)

All that being said, I don't have anymore time to defend my choice of breeds honor.. LOL My opinions have all been stated 100 times.

If you have kids and want a bitchen dog that will be gentle, and protective of them.. I doubt your going to find a better combo for a family dog then a well trained pit.

They have the patience of a hindu monk, and a high threshold for pain (kids yanking on their ears, misbehaving and generally being kids), and a sense of loyalty that simply can not be rivaled.

Before the media made them to be monsters.. They were America's favorite dogs. The little Rascals had a pit for crying out loud. Helen Keller had one as her helper (seeing eye dog/companion).

Not exactly the stories that make headlines, but hey nice guy stuff rarely does..

RD

Yep, at one point they were called "America's Dog". Last I heard, they were the most commen breed of dog in the US. Most folks who hear about so many problem Pits, have no idea of how many of them there are around.

Most people (seriously) hear the name and don't even know what they look like. I can't tell you how many times some lady and her kids are petting my dog, and about 2 minutes into it she'll ask.. "What kind of dog is that?" so I tell them only to watch them recoil in horror.. Grab and yank their kids away.

Now I just tell them "It's a cute one" and when there done "Don't believe everything ya hear about pitbulls."
