I took Lulu (French Mastiff) to the dog park on Sunday. When we got there we saw 3 or 4 labs running around and playing with tennis balls and one little black pitbull. I cut her loose and kept her close by. The black labs came up and sniffed butts with her and wagged tails and then the pit made his way over with his owner. Lulu is 120lbs of goofball. The pitbull comes over and tries to mount her around the neck. She snapped at him and let him know that she didint like that. So the owner took him back to another part of the park. Lulu went off to play with the other dogs. I am not a Pitbull hater. I have always been one of those that blamed the owner for poorly raising a dog. So fast forward 15 minutes or so. I am holding the button on the water fountain for Lulu to drink and the next thing I know the Pitbull is back in her face. He gets right around her head, lets out some piercing yelp and tries to mount her head again, when she turned away from the water fountain the dog latched on to her neck and it was on. I grabbed Lulu by the head and got my arm under the pits chin while the owner grabbed his dog. I told the guy that he is locked on and the pit was shaking its head trying to rip her neck out. The pit had a spiked collar and the guy was grabbing on to it trying to pull the dog off. Finally we were able to free them up and he apologized for his dog. They left immediately. I found some pretty good punctures in Lulu's face. Luckily, he bit her on the part of her face which is mostly loose skin.
This is the second time she has attacked by a pitbull. Im trying to not judge the little guys but it is becoming more and more difficult.

I will not comment on this too much, you are going to hear all of the pitbull lovers come on here and stick up for the dogs. All I have to say is, ask anyone that was at Apache Lake last Labor Day when a pitbull attacked Zeus, my 120 lb. Mastiff/Rottie mix. I jumped in there and had to squeeze the pit's windpipe until it was literally crushed, all the while, punching it in the face until it almost passed out and finally let go of my dog. I swear to this day, I wanted to kill that dog, if I had it to do again, I would have not wasted time punching it in the face, instead I would have used one of the several large river rocks on that beach to crack that fukkers head like an egg. When it comes to protecting my dogs, I'll get mid-evil on your ass!!!:swear

I'm sorry to hear abut Lulu, Tony. She has my best wishes.

I seem to have taken ownership of a 7lb, 8 year old, poodle-maltese cross. She's amazingly sweet but we had an incident on Sunday.

Our vet removed 14 of her top teeth on Friday. With previous extractions, she's down to 3 left. She was pretty out of it Friday and not real sharp Saturday. On Sunday, she looked to be coming around so we worked on removing the tape from her front leg where the IV had been.

She didn't enjoy the process of cutting the tape from her matted fur. When we were done, she started barking and going on like Cujo. During the show, she gave me a little gummy nip on the hand. It felt nice, with her soft, inflamed gums so I didn't discipline her.

My heart goes out to Lulu. She was very friendly and sweet to me when I as in her territory.

It's nice to know you will take great care of her.

At the time it was happening I just wanted to get the dog off of her. But about 5 minutes after, I have to admit I wanted to find that dog. The owner was very remorseful and got his dog out of there. He told me his dog is not aggressive and I had no need to worry. He was not a big Pit and he was very sweet to people. But damn:mad:

I know how you feel about going medieval when it comes to my dog.

When I go to the dog park I go with a group of other mastiffs, we have several OEMs, BMs, a spainish Mastiff, Korean Dosas and several DDBs in our group. Our group meets a couple of times a month in Santa Clarita and there are other mastiff meet-ups that can be found through this link. One lady in our group brings a very loud air horn in case of any fights. It is a rally cool way of socializing our dogs, that seems a bit safer than just taking them to the dog park on our own...I'll bet Lulu would love it. Bella really does.:D:thumbsup

Well, while we are on the subject,

Rex.jpg

My thought is it goes back to the owner not being responsible for his dog. The dog already showed it needed to be controlled.
Hope your dog is doing well.

sucks.....why would you take a dog you can't control to a dog park.

How about keeping your leashed dog away from mine........morons:swear:(

Always makes me feel un comfortable when we take our boston (sweet as pie but dosen't like dogs pushing up on her) to dog beach and I turn around and there is 4 100lb rotties in my face off a leash walking on my towell. There not trying to hurt my dog but they could in the matter of seconds yet the owner is 300' away.

Thank you very much for that info!! I live in NoCal but would be up for bringing her down for one of the get togethers. This Saturday might not be good but I will follow along that website for others. Thanks again. Lulu got to hang out and play with 2 giant Mastiffs in Phoenix at the World Finals last year. She was dwarfed!!

Maybe if you didn't have a Paris Hilton style dog, it wouldn't be a problem. :gayfight:gayfight:D;)

Sorry to hear about your dog.. Shit happens I guess?

Part of the reason why I don't take my dog to dog parks.

... you're worried about a french mastiff clamping down on her neck and trying to kill her?

To date Neva has been attacked (literally) by 2 or 3 different Chi Wah Wah's (sp?).. and several large breeds of dogs, including.... A bull mastive.

Off the top of my head I can think of..
Akita
couple of chows
2 germans shepards
A bull mastive (big focking dog)
1 rotweiler
more labs then I can count.. (How people think these are non agressive dogs is absolutely beyond me)

I don't make much of a big deal about it, becuase truthfully none of them ever managed to hurt my dog, but it's happened.

I'm not saying she hasn't attacked a few dogs as well.. She got off the leash when my mom was walking her twice, and went a few rounds with some neighbors dogs, and drilled a rotweiler on my back patio right in front of the JBG (the person that started the thread.)

But dogs are dogs Brown.. Shit happens.

Don't put your dog in a situation where it can attack, or be attacked by another dog then you got no worries?

Your sarcastic sense of humor about these dogs.. is tiring to say the least. You say "Is it normal for a pit to gnaw the toes off an infant?" But somehow fail to see 2 threads in less then a year about weiner dogs that did the same.. As well as the latest a wiener dog that gnawed a numb toe off an adult. Or the pomeranians that have mamed or killed several infants now etc.. etc.. Dogs are dogs. It is what it is.

Yes pitbulls can be agressive dogs.. Yes most of them ARE dog aggressive.. YES IT CAN BE TRAINED OUT OF THEM. Yes they are less prone to bite people then just about any other breed. And finally yes they have one of the best temperments of any breed, as touted by the AKC.. (Dog experts for you brown).

Thanks Sprinter! I had just found that as well while you were posting it up.Again, I appreciate the help.

Tony

No problem. I think Rachel from West Coast Mastiff Rescue is in that group. She and her husband fostered Bella while we were in the process of adopting her and they seem like super nice folks (they boat too).:D:thumbsup

Thanks for the advice, Dave. I'll use extra caution with Chloe and always make sure she is freshly fed, before taking her out in public. Freshly fed, these days, means adding warm beef soup broth to her kibble for correct swallowing lubricity.

Well, while we are on the subject,

Hey now... I've been tryin. But damn it's really tough. I'm just sayin. :)

T I'm glad lulu's ok, that sucks. I carry a bat when I walk my boys and won't hesitate to use it on any loose assbite dog that gets in our faces. I've only had to use it one time in 15 years so far thank God. Big white wolf lookin dog got one right in the ribcage one day. He left the vicinity immediately following contact with a modified demeanor. Most dogs back off when they see the bat come out and bangin on the ground and me yellin at em like ginkas kahn. But all it takes is one jacked up one to do some damage. That pit's owner obviously didn't have control. He's just lucky lulu wasn't in a grouchy mood... pit bull stew. Those bastards that use the spiked collars are usually a sign of trouble brewin too. Small dick syndrome right there.

I thought about replacing the bat with a tripod but the bat just seems to offer a better grip. Tom congratulations on the poodle acquisition.

Almost all dogs are "dog aggressive" if they are not properly socialized around other dogs. Even large normally gentle breeds, like Bullmastiffs (with BMs it's most often same sex dog aggression).

Just becuase the dog is incapable of hurting something doesn't mean it won't try Brown..

Stacy's Pug damn near has no teeth.. but that lil focker has tried to bite me 2 or 3 times.. Now if he goes running up to some bull mastive gumming it's ankles and ends up getting his ass handed to him.. I'm not going to say "A bull mastive attacked my pug" I'm going to say, well probably shouldn't have done that, and hopefully it learned a lesson.

I understand that's not what happened even remotely to JBG.. Apparently his dog wasn't doing shit and this pitbull wouldn't leave it alone, or was looking for a fight? I dunno.. But truthfully neither does he? Unless of course he speaks dog?

Dogs can shoot glances from across a yard, and ear movements etc.. that are signs of dominance or submission. Basically like big middle fingers to humans.. Being that we don't speak dog, most everybody doesn't recognize them.

I was watching the dog whisperer awhile back, and this couple had a problem with one of their dogs constantly attacking the other. Turned out it wasn't the aggressive dogs problem, but rathe the attacky, sending off "FU" signals to the aggressive dog. Stopped the signals, no more problems.

Dogs are dogs brown.. To try to equate HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY to why a dog does, or doesn't do some behavior is a waste of time. Better to try to understand in dog psychology, why it happened, and how to prevent it again? If that's too much work to do that then you just keep them seperated, or in a controlled enviroment.

Why don't you stick up for the Pitt, Dave? It was just looking for a little head.

Dave, what do you suppose are the odds of my 7 lb maltese-poodle hurting anyone?

Tarring all dogs with the same brush is like saying assault riffles should be controlled by the same regulation as toothpicks. Either, when operated with aggression, could take an eye out.

Assault rifles should be classified the same as hand guns and hunting rifles.. I would agree with that, and use it as a more accurate metaphor.

So you're sayin...Immediate Termination for Brown.....Im on it!

:point

Infract his ass! As usual it was the owners fault, and not the dogs. He should have controlled his damn dog, and none of this would have happened. My last dog was a pit mix and you could not have found a more pussy of a dog. He was literally scared of himself sometimes. It's weird because the whole litter turned out that way. He never attacked anyone/anything and was a great dog. Now the fucking husky mix I have now I hate. Damn rescue dog that HAD to have been beaten and it shows. I don't trust her at all.

I think I would rather be locked in a room with a toothless hungry aggrssive 7 pound poodle maltese than a pitbull with the same temperment, but that's just me.

No doubt she's probably sending some of those signals I was talking about earlier.. LOL

Why have a dog that's hungry and aggressive?

As far as everything else.. When it's 3:00 in the morning and there's some large shadow creeping through the hallway of my house, I'll take the pitbull. Truthfully I'd take a pitbull over a gun. No chance of accidental shooting of a family member etc..
