I'm curious to see what everyone thinks because it seems everyone has a different opinion depending on where you live.

I personally think it’s the county line of SLO and Monterey. Additionally if you factor in a Central Cal, I think So Cal ends in Santa Barbara, Central Cal ends at the Golden Gate Bridge, and Nor Cal ends at Oregon border.

So cal - San Diego to Santa Barbara.
Central cal - north Santa Barbara to south San Jose
Northern ca San Fran to north boarder.
Grew up in Monterey.....as close as you can get to accurate. Monterey never claimed N CA and SLO never claimed S CAL

Kid growing up in OC
Anything north of Orange County is NorCal. Now thats not a true answer--but there is never a need to venture north of OC.

I always put LA county and south as SoCal. Central CA up to Sac border and Sac to OR as NorCal

Growing up in San Diego I always kinda thought anything north of Disneyland..

When I moved to Santa Barbara and everyone kept referring to it as So Cal I was taken back quite a bit.. 😳

If memory is right, for at least TV sports programming, SLO over to Tulare seems to be the divide between Nor Cal and So Cal.

This ^

There are 3 sections of California, So Cal does not border Nor Cal, Central California is a long stretch and is the buffer between.
And none of the parts are alike 🤷🏻‍♂️

Santa Barbara is deep into SoCal, at least to us NorCal folks.

The divide is more political, than geographical.

yes, socal, cencal, norcal, norcal extends into southern oregon (interstate 5), coastal cal, eastern cal. they all are separate states of mind. then for a joke throw in the state of jefferson.

..

Having family in NorCal....they definitely don't want to consider Frisco to be part of Norcal. I would almost say Norcal would be anyone north of Bako that is conservative.

Nobody in NorCal calls it Frisco, in fact that’s kind taboo.

Offshore waters going north - So Cal conditions end at Pt. Conception. North of there is Central Cal waters which extend up to Punta Gorda. Above Punta Gorda it is North Cal waters. Extreme difference between each area.

1967, After visiting Haight-Ashbury, I drove in the fog and parked at what I'd later learn was Muir Beach. Awoke at daybreak after sleeping in my buddy's VW Bus and noticed a beautiful young lady strolling down the beach and finally taking a seat on a rock outcropping.
Not having gotten laid since Big Sur, decided I should venture over for an introduction.
She was very friendly and we were well on our way to a mutual warming, she shared how she lived there, right past the northern end of Muir Beach.
It was then that she popped the big question, "Where do you live ?"
Thinking nothing of it, I responded honestly that I was from Tustin. Her expression suggesting she was puzzled, I added, " It's in Orange County, which is just south of Los Angeles".
Well that got her attention alrighty
She immediately stood up, said "Oh, you're one of Them, a Republican", then turned and walked away.
And well -----

That's all folks.jpg

And that's the day I learned there really was a difference between the North and the South. 🥴
