I made a deal with myself that I would buy a Rolex when I became owner of the family bizz. Well, it’s been 5 yrs now and I have yet to pull the trigger? Spending 15-20k is not the issue, but would I wear it. I wouldn’t at work as I don’t want to flash it around or when I’m out visiting a customer. So it would sit in a case in the closet 80% of the time.

But I would pay 200-300 for a rep just to see if I would wear one like you did.

Almost pulled the trigger on this one a few years back.

So some of you guys bought your wives CZ rings as well? I mean what’s the difference? No regular person can tell just by looking at it. 😆

I have a real Rolex and a fake one that my son found in the garage a couple months ago. I bought it when I was 19 so 26 years ago. It’s so bad but at that time, I didn’t care lol. Get whatever makes you happy. Who gives a shit what anyone else thinks. 😆

I wouldn’t buy a real Rolex because my self worth will never be based by a piece of jewelry. I watched a friend lose his $15k Rolex water skiing at Kings River and felt like who cares, if you can’t afford to lose it don’t wear it. I never wanted to lose it so don’t care. Knock yourself out👍

Because I can appreciate an old school mechanical Swiss watch and its value... Why would someone drive an old air-cooled 911?
That’s a good question as no one needs a Porsche, let alone and old, slow, and expensive to maintain one😉

I have no idea what’s it’s called, just like the way it looks and still do. Don’t know anything about watches really.

But I was close and being 40 yrs old at the time I just didn’t think I really earned it. Ended up buy the wife a ring instead. Made out cheaper. Lol

Shit, I wear a silicon wedding ring. Nothing like sporting a Rolex with one of those, for sure people will think the watch is fake.

Some legit points for sure, I can’t show up doing estimates for clients wearing something like that, sends the wrong message IMO. As well I don’t want to get jacked out in DTLA by the hood rats looking to come up. Had a neighbor get followed home a year or two ago from LA where they were having dinner, hood rats held him and his wife up at gun point in their driveway for his watch and her jewelry, I’m guessing it was a $50k come up that could have ended really bad.

About 30 years ago I thought I needed a Rolex and I went into a dealer at Beverly center and checked them out and honestly I thought my high end Citizen or Seiko watches looked better. If memory serves at the time they were $5 to $7,000 for the one I looked at so I guess it would have been a good investment long term. Now I look at them like $500 sneakers, it's just not for me.

My everyday watch is a Garmin EPIX. For a grand it does a lot of stuff.

I could have got that one for 15k back in 21’.

It's an 116710 GMT batman on a Jubilee bracelet. They are discontinued now.. I would love to have one as they are very desirable. The Jubilee bracelet is so gangster, I love it.. I'm on a waiting list for the same watch but new with the Pepsi bezel, I don't know if I will ever get the call.

Not to thread jack...but, how much should one make a year to justify a $20k watch purchase?

Not sure you could ever quantify that. A guy could live at home with his parents make 100k a year and buy a 20k watch. On the other hand could have a guy with wife, kids, mortgage etc make 250K a year and buy it. Without knowing all the info about their finances how could you say one should buy over the other? Guy making 250k could be drowning in debt while 100k guy could be debt free. Who is more justified?

I personally wouldn’t buy a fake but to each their own. I didn’t get mine because I’m rich far far from it. I’ve just always wanted one, there mechanical works of art. I love watches have about 30. Price ranges from couple hundred bucks to the Rolex. Don’t know why some are hating on people with them. You only live once, live it up. If you’re hating you’re not really living you’re just hating.

I think when you see a man wearing Rolex and you know has wealth, good business and is not N obnoxious dick you can say “cool, dude made it”. You can tell when a guy is faking it to make it, wearing a Rolex…. It may be real, stolen, gift from daddy or fake. For that reason I wear Omegas or some other Swiss unknown watch, so I don’t feel like a fake myself. I’ve seen good Chi-com fake Rolex’s, pretty hard to tell if it’s real.
My analogy too. Sure, I can sell some shit and buy a rea one, but if ya gotta sell one asset to afford another; ain't happening, I would be a poser.

I'm happy collecting everyday watches like Seiko and Citizen. And lately, I've kind concluded I don't want the trouble of an automatic.

I wear a watch daily, virtually all the time, including in the water behind the boat. I’m not going to rock a Rolex, I’d LOVE to have a good fake, but for now I’ll stick with my Geneve that I bought years back at a charity auction. Much like @Tank I enjoy (feel lost without it) the weight on my wrist.

I have a 1969 Pepsi GMT a little faded but original. All I do is get it Service. My jeweler told me to park it and don't touch it. Now I only wear it once a month going out, wedding or something nice.

I don’t wear a watch anymore but even if I could afford a Rolex I wouldn’t buy one. A 20 dollar big 5 watch still got me to places in time like a 30k Rolex.

Besides working construction I scratched them cracked them and broke em.

Guys - have wore a Rolex 24/7 for the past 30 years. Do not take off for sport, work, welding, shower, anything. I have a collection in addition to the one given to me by @nanu . I would not recommend buying a replica. You will get used to the weight of it. I feel weird when I take off to clean or switch them out. I could write for pages on adventures and networking I have made but honestly if you have thought of getting one go out and do it. If you enjoy not wearing a watch - awesome.

Gift from GiGi when I got my PPL. I wear to weddings and funerals.

I'm very happy with my Omega I bought many years ago, don't need anything else.

When I was in HK a few years ago I did buy one of those $400 sub fakes for fun. It's pretty awesome, and looks like the real deal.

Until you compare it to a real one lol. Biggest giveaway compared to the real one my friend had is the little magnification window has this blue tint to it. It's obvious from like 5 feet away. The real ones don't have it like that, also the real ones have a cleaner magnification if that makes sense. If you got one without the date and the window, it would be pretty much impossible to tell IMO.

I think I've only worn the fake one out in public 2 times. Would feel wrong if some kid came up and complimented it, and I would feel like a total loser if a baller dude came up and wanted to start taking about watches

Dunno if you remember I did the thread of a friend who gave me a new Sub 2000 as a gift for past favors I've done for him and his family.
He is a Rolex fanatic. As extreme Rolex nutcase as they come. Huge gun safe full of them.

I wore one of his Rolex. It's a solid gold watch and band and was it ever heavy. Fucking heavy. A workout to wear it. You never forget it's on your wrist nor does anyone who sees it.
That heavy weight was part of the watches character. It was bad ass.

Back in the 70's there was a boat Mfg in Dana Point. Invested in and made some interesting blanks and boats.
Another well known boat builder was ripping off and splashing the Dana Point boat builders hulls and reaping some bank in sales.

The Dana Point boat builder sued and the courts ruled 15% difference and he had no case.

Dunno if that applies to watches.

For the single dudes out there, just remember there are 2 things a woman looks at. The watch on your wrist and shoes on your feet!!

Most woman aren't going to know it's a fakey........😉😉
Women never look at watches WTF. At least not mine! Probably because it's not a Rolex though, I bet that one they know. Yay for gold diggers!!
