I always hear people saying that when they retire they're going to move to another country where it's cheaper to live or if so and so gets elected I'm going to move to this country.

Well, I want to know, what other country would you seriously move to if you decided you no longer wanted to live here in the US of A?

Tell us where and why please. Also, for those that have already lived in another country, tell us if you would move back or why you would never go back.

Let's hear it!!
Never happen for us, we love America and the life it has given us. I have friends and family from all over the world, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Middle East, England, Greece and all of south America. Most after visiting the US say they would like to live in the US if they could afford it. 'MERICA :).

Wife and I are going Gypsy/Vagabond in three weeks. Leaving Arizona into the Baja Peninsula with an expedition type built truck full of our scuba gear and shore fishing rigs. Going to dive all the east coast spots (BOLA/Mulege/Loreto/Lapaz). Then we are taking the ferry across and will decide whether to turn up back north to Guymas or head farther south to Akumal and Belize. Told family count on us being gone 2 months…. Why settle on one spot?

I will probably stay in the USA because the USA is pretty badass, back to back champs, and we are big on GM V8 power. Thing I'm facing is where to retire in the US that doesn't have a brutal winter, doesn't have self centered idiots, and hasn't been ruined by Californians.

Looks like a beautiful place. Your house looks great. What are the going prices for homes there today?
How far away is the airport?
Do the locals speak any English?
Frank
Thank you Frank, if you check out the website, I've linked the majority of the real estate for sale on the Homes For Sale section. It depends on condition. My neighbor house that's about 1200 square and needs some interior renovation and asking 14k, where as another one that is 3k feet is asking $160k. Just depends. Abruzzo Airport is little under 2 hours and Rome is 3hr. All accessable via bus or train. A few locals speak English, but the greater majority does not. You can use a translate app to get by but you will need to learn some of the language to really integrate.

Neighbors house.

Would seem after having done your due diligence, you landed in a a rather idyllic place that really works for you and yours. You've created a web site that I'm sure many will appreciate, for the purpose of introducing and presenting this special place to the world. Hopefully you and your neighbors have thought this through. 👍

What was it like to restore the place. My sister is restoring a place in Milan and it is taking years. Says it is hard to get workers. She has been living with her in-laws while it get habitable. Seams like a long time.

The biggest shock I think would be the lack of availability of "stuff". I'm constantly amazed by the international orders that come in for the parts I sell....I figured this stuff would be fairly common everywhere, but it's not. There's simply no other place that has product availability like the USA.

Did you do the Scuba diving part? I am looking for good guide companies down there. I have a few references for BOLA and LaPaz, but I am going to have to just ask around once we are down there in the other locations....

My cousin just retired and moved to Thailand a few months ago. He's a pharmacist and is collecting his retirement and SS from here and also his retirement from Germany since he lived there for 20 years. He's 62 and single (divorced). He sends me videos from the night clubs and strip clubs and the beach and all that good stuff. I always tell him to make sure he taps their necks (adam's apple check) before he taps that ass!! 😆

We've seriously discussed buying a place in Northern England and eventually retiring there. Just absolutely love the people and country side. Europe is a quick plane ride away if you want to experience the continent, and airfare is usually dirt cheap. Our plan would be to spend a couple of weeks at a time there and take excursions to other parts of continent.

But then we realize we have two kids to put through college and I don't know if I want to be that far away from them as they get married and start having families.... So probably no house in the English countryside. Great place to visit though.

She is not wrong, since the government released their Superbonus program (Thanks Covid) it has been hard to get workers. I think it's going to be done this year. I don't we qualify for it, so I never looked into it. For the work I need (Bathroom remodel / piped) It's not very hard to find someone locally. The one thing about Italy, is that it will teach you patiences. I was quoted 5k for a new bathroom, 1500 to repoint my outside stone, and 2000 for some structure work. I want to do the bathroom myself with some local help and save a few thousand dollars.

Ya, I don't know shit about sailing either. Just the idea of using wind for power to get to the destination.

But hey, if Libtards can sail, it must not be to hard to learn. 😂

One of my clients that worked at UCR had a catamaran built in France. He retired in 2020. He was going sail around the world for 10 years in it.

We have had a house in Baja for about 10 years now (San Felipe). We like that we can easily drive back and forth to the US with our big dog and whatever stuff we want to move. Our main home is in the US but I could totally live in Baja full time, it's very inexpensive compared to the US. Off roading is epic. Fishing not bad. San Felipe is too hot in the summer so a lot of the full timers go over to the pacific side for a few months in the summer, either in an RV or rent a house. I've been thinking of getting a condo down in the Cabo corridor to escape the winter cold that we get in Havasu and San Felipe. There are several good marinas if you want to keep a boat down there.
I'd love to figure out how to winter in the Bahamas but going without the big dog is a deal breaker and it's just so far from Havasu.

When my wife and I went down to the Polynesian Islands a few years ago, we met this couple with 2 kids (5 & 3) on their boat. They were from Denmark. At the time, they had been sailing for 2 years. The parents were homeschooling the kids on the boat each day. The little boy came right up and conversated with us. We were astonished at how intelligent the kid was. They would sail around moor up on different islands/bays every few months. The parents had some type of GPS Wifi to continue working remote. This gave me the itch to try something similar and seeing the world other than just hanging at Catalina or the Channel Islands.

If I had to pick another country to live in, South Korea stands first on that list. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to stay there and it was quite an unforgettable journey. Big kudos to https://gowithguide.com/korea It's very interesting how they mix old traditions with new things. You can walk through busy Seoul streets or climb scenic mountains such as Bukhansan - there is always something fun to find. Plus, the food! Korean barbecue, bibimbap, kimchi... I could go on forever. Another country I'd consider living in would be Japan. I am always attracted to the deep history, beautiful sceneries and special mix of old customs with new advancements. Tokyo's vibe really spreads to you, and why would someone not wish to feel the peace from Kyoto's temples? And, of course, there's the mouthwatering sushi and ramen. But at the end of the day, I'll choose to stay where my family is ❤️

Dated a Korean girl in my early 20's. She would take me to her moms for dinners. Holy crap the food was good. Jump to last year and I had bulgogi and I was like why did I stop eating this stuff. Just loved it, so I bought some gochujang and started cooking with it. Still doing the store bought Kimchi, but one day I will make my own. If you haven't tried Korean food you are missing out.

Yeah I love visiting family and traveling in Switzerland, Germany, rolling thru France, wow'd by the historic spots in England every 10 steps ya take. We'll be at it again in Europe this September.

There is no better feeling than getting off the plane or ship setting foot back in the USA and that "Welcome Home Baby" feel.

Can't do the things in other countries like we do here. I get cabin fever, OK, I seen it.
Only thing that's changed here is it's less affordable but still available in spite of Democrats.

A few Immigrant families in our boating and off roading circles.
Old Sea Doos, old shop worn boat, old Rzrs old RV, they patch it up, keep it all functional. Makes no never mind, six pence none the richer, they are just glad to be here and doing it and so appreciative and have a great work ethic earning the cash to pull it off.

We had a few Korean Marines attached to my unit.
They taught me how to cook.

I have a friend in Carlsbad who I passed it on to and he based his catering business on what I passed on to him.
Flanken cut ribs bulgogi for decades was cheap. Now very expensive, but is it ever a hit with friends and family.

Occasionally COSTCO will have 10 lb trays of them and I'll scoop them up and do the Bulgogi ribs.

Ali’s best man operated a physical therapy business here in Simi.
9 each night he’d lock up and walk home.

In route he’d stop off for a drink at cool little bar n grill that is now long gone.
Lucky me and my oldest son we became friends with him.

An amazing man with amazing accomplishments in his life. He had trained under John Wooden and those stories alone would fill volumes.

His one bucket list item was teach all 4 of his girls to sail and spend a year in the Bahamas.

He did it. They loved almost every minute of it, though it wasn’t easy.
Because something isnt easy doesn’t mean it won’t be fun.

I'm looking at Spain these days.
A lot of Brits, I mean a fuck ton, spend part of the year in Spain for retirement. My god parents for example. They seem to really enjoy it, and there is quite the community for ex pats which makes it easy, probably feels like an invasion to the Spaniards if I am honest.

Watching youtube videos a lot of Americans move to the Philippines. Cost of living is super cheap, its beautiful and they speak english.

My life isn't set up for something like that but lets' say I was retired and single without a ton of $$$ or options it seems like you could live alot better on SS there.

I also like mexico.
I have gone to the Philippines every year for the last 10 years for a couple weeks or a month. My girl friend has a condo there on the 30th floor of a high rise near Manila.

As soon as I get there we plan island trips. Great beaches, great snorkeling and reasonable price, maybe half or less than you pay for an ocean front resort in Hawaii.

We spent most of November on the island of El Nido, Palawan Province. I’ll get some pics. Not sure I could live there permanentl, I’ll always have a place in the U.S.

I agree %100 Korean food is a whole vibe! Especially homemade bulgogi—it's so flavorful. I also want to make my own, but I don't know how to cook, lol. 😂

Todos Santos Mexico is likely where I’ll end up. It caters to Ex-Pats and is well equipped with many speaking English including the hospitals, urgent care, grocery stores, etc…

It’s the Baja Peninsula so easy to fly back and forth to the states if I need to.
I could see myself and wife there. Sis in law has two homes there now. Always love going to visit.
Only An hour from Cabo.

Just wonder if I could completely move from the states. They have a house in Taos NM as well. Best of both worlds.

I think having a place here, even a condo or townhouse and a place over there would be the way to go. That way you can take a break and come back if shit hits the fan.

One of my favorite beach front resort on Baracay, Station 0, this end of the island is pretty quiet, away from everything.
