Love it... I owned one of those for a little bit, but the deck was dry rotted and had a bum motor, that turned out to be out of a truck (390) instead of the 427 I was lead to believe it was. It was above my head project wise. Wish I had the skills or money to restore the old boat.

Looks like
COPO
427 Chevy
Not Fe

Both awesome

I’d love to see the old boat. Have any pictures? :)

Certainly prior to the days of his personal trainer :D

The progress he's made is amazing. :D

Just to finish up on what I call “V Drive Wall Art”...once some buddies saw the stuff, they wanted me to make them something out of what they had sitting around.
If any of you guys want something like this, let me know. Usually takes a couple hours and parts to make.
What hydroplane is that in the photo to the left of the bell housing clock?

No I don't. They all went down the internet rabbit hole when Hotboat died and Kwicherbichen shut off his photo hosting site.

It was a boat used by Campbell for endurance racing back in the day. Neat piece of history to the right person. The guy I sold it to was a Campbell fanatic, but I don't know if he did anything with the boat.

What hydroplane is that in the photo to the left of the bell housing clock?

When I drove it the name was Miss California. Not sure what is was originally named.
It ran in SoCal in the late 70's, early 80's up until Inboard Hydroplane racing sadly disappeared (flatbottom racing barely survived)
Ken Bewick bought the boat and totally restored it.
Since I was one of the few guys left around that actually had raced a one of these things (82-85) he asked me to drive it.

Funny Parker story...we took it to the April race at Bluewater one year and convinced Ross to let us run in the 85mph flatbottom class.
I promised to stay in the outside lane and not mix it up with the other boats...well in order to stay up with them I ran down the beach as fast as it would go.
Problem was I was running well over 100 by the end of the chute and all the other boats broke out trying to stay with me.
We all got it pretty good from Ross at the end of the heat...good times!

Somewhere Sharpshooter has a pretty cool onboard video of it doing the opening ceremony at Long Beach...Jerry if you can find it, I'd love to have it!

Coming out of the downriver turn at Bluewater!

Hey Wheeler, is this the first time in the water? I talked to him 2 weeks ago and he was they were real close but still chasing a new bugs.

Coolest name for a boat I think I've ever seen.

Maybe next week for the water test. He's waiting for a check so he can buy fuel.

I too think the name is pretty cool. I'll try to find a photo of @cofooter 's boat with the name on it's rear.

So I had some time today to look for that. I found a clip of the hydro on the trailer from the 2003 Long Beach race. I'm thinking it was freshly restored at that point. I also found a clip from Long Beach 2004 where you made a lap on the tail end of the flag ceremony. I'm not sure what year or which day you had the camera mounted, but if I have a copy of it could you help me out as far as when you think that was? I'd call, but I have several numbers for you and it's been like 10 years.

I know I got some good footage of you in Parker in that thing but again, I don't know when that was and as you can imagine, I have thousands of hours of tapes from the years.

Sent you a PM...
Long Beach would have 2003 and Parker would have been Thanksgiving 2003.
Thanks for looking.

View attachment 768518 Dave,
Just noticed the restaurant sign.

Looks to me like a score from Badenochs in Parker ?

Nice pull ! Literally. Lol
Ha!
You nailed it.
The sign was on the side of the kitchen building on the downriver side where the rocked area was.

Cool story about the Enduro Ramp sign...
Back when the Enduro was a big thing. Both drivers and crew had to know where the out ramps were
up and down the river to retrieve broken boats.
So signs like these were posted at the ramps and out on Riverside drive.
Couple years ago in December I was out there for a week and they had cleared out all the storages at Badenochs and were
getting ready to tear them down.
All the doors were up and just junk left around.
Over in the corner of the front 2 storage garages was a stack of these signs that had been there a long long time.
I picked the only one that wasn't totally water damaged and hung it.
Never gonna see another one I'll bet!

Here’s the picture of the boat when my dad originally owned it. Freedom 855 back in the day. Our friend, Dave Legler bought it and renamed it puddlehead. Brings back memories.

Tell us more about the boat Dave! make model year power etc.

Mornin Wheeler!
I heard someone put up a sign above they’re cabana that reads “SLOW DOWN! NO WAKE! NO NOISE!”

Located between Fox’s and Roadrunner. My phone isn’t letting me load any pictures right now for some reason.

Have you seen it?

Dave in Long Beach

Love those old Hydroplanes!!! I'm thinking that boat used to be a 7 Liter back in the late 60s or early 70s. Now it's going to bug me, until I figure it out. If you knew who owned it back in the early 70s I think I still have the registrations from the 71 world/nationals. I could dig them out and see if it was there.

Harlan Orrin quote off of facebook:
Built by Don Muroth, owned by Ken Bewick. I built the new decks and replaced the transom. The boat went to a museum. It is now racing on the east coast.
