Close Quarters... I had a concussion grenade, otherwise known as a "Flash Crash" tossed... well... dropped... in a room I was in. There is this amazing amount of light and sound and it just puts you into la la land. I have "crashed" probably 50 rooms, but never been on the receiving side until this one. The guy who was closest actually had the pants blown off his leg and some significant burns to his leg.

Wow. Doesn't sound pleasant.

You should have gone all Boatcop on him and said, "Concussion grenades are not party favors."

Ha, this is out of a Clancy novel.

Actually, I think it was in a "Rogue Warrior" novel, or perhaps one of Clancy's... the idea has gotten around for sure. Not positive whether or not we did it because of the novel, or it has been around for years. All I know is, my platoons didn't make it out of the CQB phase of training until that occurred.

Even second platoon I didn't know it was coming. It is your last run though, and they put you out the back of the house so you can't tell anyone else going in what is going on.

Kind of cool if you think about it.

IRL IndyCar Series mechanic and pit crew 2003-2004 seasons

IRL Indy Lights Series chief mechanic 2005 Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Pedigo Racing #77. Started 3rd, finished last (spin, hit Turn 4 wall)

Chief mechanic 2007 Indianapolis 500 Chastain Motorsports #77 entry, Roberto Moreno driver. Qualified 30th, finished 33rd (tire puncture, hit Turn 1 wall)

Told the crew chief (same on both cars) we were never using #77 again.

Remember the days of when it wasn't just you and I throwing out random Anchorman, Ricky Bobby, and what ever quotes out? Such an easy way to throw down some humor and take the edge off of a thread. Today's kids I tell you! :D

I agree Frank, and I have no idea where he would have gotten ahold of German pornography. But you and I are mature adults, we've both seen our share of pornographic materials.

In training, the fastest I ever ran the 4 minute timed mile was 22:35, or a slightly slower than 5 1/2 minute mile. But... that was in boots, and pants... on soft sand.

I always wondered what I could have run on a track during those days.

Damn! I thought I wasnt too bad with running a 59 second 1/4 mile! :D lol!

That was back when I ran track and was STILL the slowest guy on the track team. It was ok though. I got to run with the fast girls in practice while they were all wearing their spandex shorts on. My coach always wondered why I was in the back yet could run fast then a lot of them :D

Met Roger Mcguinn when I was about 7 or 8.My dad used to take my brother and me down to L.A.X to watch jets come in .We were down there one afternoon and this guy stops near us.He was in a little 356 Porsche which at that time was a car to see.He tried to turn around in the dirt by the railroad track and gets a wheel hung up.Well my Dad is always Mr. helpful so we go over to give the guy a hand and out of the car comes Roger Mcguinn of the Byrds. My brother is the only one of us who knows him and he is freaking out.My Dad gets out a jack and some wood blocks and gets the car off the tracks.Roger was so greatful he gave my brother an autographed album. Also got to dive in the big show tank at Marineland when I was 15.My friend Scotts dad was a diver there and one day we asked him if we could go in .He says sure just watch out for Jerome cuz if he thinks you got food he will bug the crap out of you.By the way Jerome was a 300 pound spotted grouper named after our buddy who was the classic freckled red head.

How about make some hot laps with the World's Fastest Man on Water, Ken Warby. To make it better, do it in his 1,000+ hp Austrailian Sprint Boats.

W-52.jpg

Ken is driving Chaparrel and I am driving Tiger.

We made 10 or so laps - what a hoot.

Bruce is back in business isn't her?
The only thing he had going against him was his competitors made junk at way cheaper prices.

His stuff always seemed to be quality.
I think EMPI was the same story.

Met and shook hands with John Wayne when my Dad brought me to his hanger at Santa Ana. I was in the 4th grade and my class was doing a field trip nearby. He kept his Jet Comander there and my Dad and Duke's pilot were buddies. He had an Oscar painted on the fuselage by the door that he won for True Grit-had an eye patch painted on it.

He pulled up in a custom-made Pontiac station wagon that had a raised roof to accomodate his hats he like to wear.

I met the Duke!!

sorry JB but john Wayne poured me a cup of coffee on a cold rainy day while i took customs info when i worked for the san diego harbor police on his converted mine sweeper. a high light for me too.
met Peter Gun
met Shelly Winters

have brewed my own beer 2x and currently studying to do it again
compeating in a Kansas City bar b que event in feb. at havasu
cooked a whole hog when i was 6yr old with my uncle
cooked whole hog 2x in the last 12 months
i have butchered almost anything on a farm you can think of. i killed one of my dads tom turkeys one day because every time i turned my back on him he would try to spur me in the back.

my first trip to the dunes at glammis lasted till i hit 3rd gear. off the top of a razor back............

One week before the Seol Olympics we pulled into port when i was in the NAVY. I was buying this young lady expensive drinks all night in this bar in return for some private time later that night. Well at the end of the night everyone left the bar and this girls husband came to pick her up. I wanted my money back. But momma' sun (sp?) said take it up with the girl. So i was the last one still in the bar so i closed the door on them and pulled down the arm that makes it so nobody can get in. I then went and poured out three bottles of Jack Daniels to recoop my money. I was drunk. They tried to get me out and they slipped some money under the door. But it was just part of the money. So the cops came. I opened the door and they escorted me to the police station. I told the big Korean police chief my story then momma' sun came in yelling in Korean and i said she's lying. I don't know what she said but it didn't sound good. The police chief yelled at her and next thing i know she is handing me all the money i spent that night. He said sorry for the inconvience and you are free to leave. I ran out of there. I get down to the main street and my buddies just happen to be walking by and they said where the heck have you been. I will always remember the look on their faces when i told them the story :D
