Great thread - here are a few of mine :)

1. Just hiked the Grand Canyon - south rim to Colorado River and back up.
2. Was pitching in Little League and took a line drive to the nose -- Broken nose. The hitter was a Jose Virgil - son of Ozzie Virgil - all star MLB catcher for the Braves in the 80s
3. Own a DCB (or DCLB) - depending on who you listed too :D :thumbsup

Great thread and interesting reading!!

My contribution...

I was in Akron, Ohio on business a few years back visiting a company named the Turbine Group where I met Art Arfons, the builder and driver of the legendary Green Monster jet powered car. If memory serves correctly, The Green Monster set and held the Bonneville land speed record for a while back in the 60's. It was an interesting place to visit with lots of neat hardware setting around from WWII V12 aircraft engines to salvaged jet engines from various retired military aircraft. I didn't get to see any of the land speed record cars, but there was a jet powered pulling tractor in the shop. It was kind of like being in a museum for gear-heads!!:thumbsup

"I've been from Tucson to Tucomcari, Tehachapi to Tonopah."

Lowell George, nice.

I've got some good stuff but I'm too drunk on IPA's and Tequila to sort them all out. As Arnold once said "I'll be back!".

Not 90%, but fun work stuff:

For two weeks I once walked the streets of Santa Monica/3rd St Promenade looking for a drunk and homeless Peter Criss (drummer/KISS) impersonator. The National Enquirer had run a story about Peter Criss being destitute and homeless, and our star witness, the drunk impersonator, was nowhere to be found for trial.

-------

By the simple act of serving a Summons helped MOTOWN win tens of millions of dollars in a royalties dispute case dating back to the late 60’s. Nobody had been able to serve this songwriter, or at least make it stick in court for about 25 years.

So I served the guy and four years later they called me to testify in Detroit. They had a bout a dozen witnesses who said the guy was here and there, and that I couldn’t have possibly served him. So the judge was pretty curious about how I remembered this service so well, four years earlier.

Simple I told the judge. It was raining cats and dogs on my bday in Los Angeles – in late June; and the guy had Vienna sausage fingers.

So the judge asked the guy to hold his hands up- and the case was over, done. In fact the judge got pissed and said he believed the guy and his lawyers had been misleading the court for over 20 years and set a contempt of court hearing.

As result, got to meet Barry Gordy (MOTOWN founder/CEO) in Hollywood – he was impressed that I wasn’t impressed, lol.

Got drunk with Buddy Guy and Junior Wells at the Strand in Redondo Beach in the 80's
Smoked a joint on a fully loaded airliner, in my seat. Late at night, everybody sleeping. Flight attendent walked up the aisle and asked that my friend and I try and be more discreet.

Thought of a couple more.

Slept in The Cowsells house in the 60's. My dad was in the Navy with their dad.

Saved my wife's life three times. Once choking and twice drowning.

Was playing craps in the MGM with my 8 month preg wife with Billy Crystal and Rob Reiner at the table. Billy was trying to make point and asked my wife to roll for them. He said that the pregnant lady would be good luck. She promptly rolled a 7 and crapped him out.

Caught a 1277lb Blue Marlin (Oahu on the Maggie Joe)

Caught and Released 77 Striped Marlin in 2 Days (Mag Bay on the Dulcinea) all baited and released!

Caught Yellowfin Tuna over 230lbs (Hawaii)

Free Gaffed a 100+ Pound Mako on anchor at Clemente and watched it chase my co-worker up the side of the boat....Damn things can walk on their front fins believe me this thing ran at least 40ft up the side of the boat. This was about 3am in the morning and the Capt. was not a happy camper when we woke everybody up. Thought I was going to lose my job.

Prefer not to tell about the drugs and hookers I would hate for my 12yr old to read about that shit one day. Not really proud of it either...

Took Stone Temple Pilots fishing and watched the lead singer catch a striped marlin. Funny thing was we are both the same age and know the same people. He went to Edison and I went to Fountain Valley class of 1985. (I cant remember his name to save my life, I think it is Scott Wyland)

Broke my neck playing football at recess in the 6th grade....That sucked!

Toot Toot!!!!!

I rode bulls on the pro-rodeo circuit for 4+ years. Partied and traveled with all the rodeo greats Ty Murrey, Donny Gay, Larry Mahan, Tuff Hedeman, Adriano Marias, Zack Brown, and more names I could drop but you guys would probably have no idea of who the hell they were.

I've been to the Playboy Mansion and hung out with "the girls next door" had Tommy Lee as our DJ and watched "The Dan Band" perform.

I was almost kidnapped when I was a kid hanging garage sale signs.

Had a plastic surgery on my nose because of a rodeo accident.

I'm sure there are a few more, but that is enough for now ;)

62 miles to Catalina in that time is infinitly harder that 75 up the glassy Hawkesbury. Although we did have a cable stop. Mason is a legend. I'm just a lucky above average speed skier.

Shared a chairlift seat with Olympic skier "Spider" Sabich at Alyeska ski resort in Girdwood Alaska, 1974. 2 Years later his girlfriend shot him to death. (Andy Williams ex-wife, Claudine Longet)

Beat 1994 Olympic downhill gold medalist Tommy Moe in a Super GS ski race at the same place around 1990, before he made the US Ski Team.
(My brother was faster and used to beat him on occasion, but we were poor and did not have the $ to join the Alyeska ski team)
Tommy Moe was always cool to us and a real class act though, even as a teenager. :thumbsup (He is from Girdwood)

Qoute:Saw Tim Capaldi pulled out of the bottom of Puddingstone while standing next to his fiance at the out ramp. Worst tragedy I have ever witnessed.:

Dude, That was the last race for me for many years. I was standing with my then best friend Jimmy Van Dyke and Terry when it happened. I left there never to go to a drag boat race again until Jimmy got hooked up with JT.

I have a few more to add to this.

Sat in Breedloves "Spirit of America" right after it was painted by my father. Sat in Taylors water speed record boat the day before he was killed in it.(Dad painted it)Flew with Bob Hoover in the Shrike Commander, (dad painted it) got thrown into our pool by A.J. Foyt and Bobby Unser (A.J. drove Dad's dirt champ car a few times, won twice in it), Wrecked Broc Glover once at DeAnza cycle part (funny now, but not then) Raced sprint cars and raced Canyon Speedway on a thursday, Mazanita on Friday, Tucson on Sat and Perris on Sunday on a 118 degree weekend (lost 17 lbs in 4 days) Flipped out of Manzanita on the same night that J.J. Yeley flipped out of the other end of Manzi. Raced with J.J. Yeley, Tony Stewart,Dave Blaney and Casey throughout the midwest in Sprint cars and midgets. Set a new track record at Perris for 11 minutes until Ricky Gaunt took it away. WOn my first race by crashing someone else (by accident, slide job gone bad) Been 181.2 in a boat. Got caught in wind sheer in a 172 and lost 4500 ft in about 15 seconds, (and bought new underwear on the same day) Made my flight instructor puke.(long story) and have ridden a motorcycle every day, rain or shine for 9 years.

Other than that I have a great friendship with a bunch of cows.

Which end did you flip out of??? I have a buddy who raced wings at Manzi, and the story out in the pits went something like if you flipped over the fence into the junkyard to the East, you hoped that the crews got to you and got you out before the junkyard dogs figured out how to get to you.

Then again, if you flipped over the West fence, you hoped to stop before you ended up in the middle of 35th Ave.

Either way, flipping out of Manzi wasn't a really attractive option. :fsakes

He is one hell of a pilot, as Chuck Yeager said " Bob is the best pilot I have ever seen". I shook his hand at AirSpace American at Brown Field in 1988.

BTW, you are supposed to "let Broc bye" not crash him out. ;)

Started just past the flag stand and went out of one and landed ten feet from 35th ave. Thought about walking across the street to get a 6 pack, but figured I should stay there since I wasn't real clear on where the hell I was. JJ went out the other end and landed in a shed in the junk yard. He broke his arm, and I forgot my name. Go figure. He did it in practice and I did it in qualifying.

I was fortunate to grow up with Bob Hoover and a little guy by the name of Bob Herendeen who won the world aerobatic championships twice in his career. Hoover however is an increadable guy. He knows everything about every airplane. You should see what he does in a 172.

Watched Christian Slatter try to open a can of paint with an electric can opener. Showed him how to open it the right way.....put the lid back on and walked away. Short time later, I hear all this banging. Watched him try to re-open same can by punching holes in the lid with a phillips driver and a pipe wrench. He then poured the paint out of the same holes. Never did get the lid off....

Walked into a resturant down in Laguna Beach holding our brand new daughter. Hear some lady say she wants to hold her. I dont even look at the lady because I smell coffee and sausage. Wife tells me I just blew off Heather Locklear and Ritchie Sambora.....

Walked into a resturant down in Laguna Beach holding our brand new daughter. Hear some lady say she wants to hold her. I dont even look at the lady because I smell coffee and sausage. Wife tells me I just blew off Heather Locklear and Ritchie Sambora.....

Heather Locklear just blew me. :thumbsup STUD.

Sorry Linus3, I couldn't resist.

Great stories. This thread is great. :thumbsup:thumbsup

I have
...assaulted an oil platform after inserting off a rope from a helicopter.
...come into a room in a kill house expecting paper targets and had my Commanding OFficer and Command Master Chief sitting in the seats as hostages with paper terrorists over their heads.
...have been accidentally "crashed" during CQ training. That sucked.
...have personally detonated over 120 pounds of C4 in one shot before.
...rode in a 14' rubber boat with six other guys from Coronado to San Clemente Island, and then back to Camp Pendleton.
...glassed a Pro Stock "snorkle" hood scoop on my 1974 Cadillac Coupe De Ville, and then used it in the Bondurant high performance driving course. When the class picture was taken in front of the Caddy, all the turds who brought Porche's were pissed.

That doesn't sound so bad.

What is "CQ"?

Close Quarters... I had a concussion grenade, otherwise known as a "Flash Crash" tossed... well... dropped... in a room I was in. There is this amazing amount of light and sound and it just puts you into la la land. I have "crashed" probably 50 rooms, but never been on the receiving side until this one. The guy who was closest actually had the pants blown off his leg and some significant burns to his leg.

Best part is, it was one of the training cell folks that did it. Ooops...

Memo to oil companies: Do not sell Froggy any bad gas that clogs his fuel filter. :D

Ha, this is out of a Clancy novel. :D

Lemme guess, you guys were going to Porky's to get laid.
