Retired from LAPD. My last 15 years working on specialized investigations as a detective at Parker Center. Private investigator about 15 years thinking I was semi retired until proposition 47.

Now a little too busy working on and off 5 to 7 days a week, most of it phone and computer work with seven 1099 retired police detectives working for me.

Wife owns and aluminum extrusion business she's a license to importer.

With the economy you must be having to much fun. Raining dollar bills. My HVAC subs prices have gone up 50% from bids 2 years ago. He told me no more deals everyone pays top dollar. One trade I should of learned sooner instead of giving him the jobs.

I am a Builder with a GC license. Looking to expand more this next year. Just wish there was more people that want to work. Everyone wants top dollar to start or sub.

HVAC contractors work the least and get paid the most. Great trade to be in. [emoji106]

Unfortunately most of that cost increase is compliance with title 24, aqmd fees, etc. we aren’t making that much more profit than 2 years ago.

The bids I was comparing was for same work. Job was just delayed by city.

Last 3 were bids. A heater change out $10K. Add ac to existing new system 1 bid was 12k one was 10k. New hvac system 18k.

That’s crazy. We are considered to be one of the more expensive contractors in our area and come no where near that pricing.

I am self employed since September, I was a Master ASE certified heavy diesel/CNG Transit bus technician, but now I have gone back to being a heavy equipment operator, with my own gig, breaking concrete, demolition, digging footings, excavation, grading, and material hauling. its been good, I cannot complain!

$10K for a furnace change out sounds high, must be a 90% furnace and include a coil and new ductwork.

No. Just a swap out. I know they are high. Got to be 8k profit.

I had another one recently new heater and duct work. Asbestos company removed ducts already. Took a tech 1 day with me helping lift unit into place. I paid him over 300 hr and it cost me half of what my guys bid was and he was 1700 less than there other bid. I don't mind 1k a day but once it goes over 2k a day I will learn it myself. 4k a day I will remember when things dry up and they are asking me why I have no jobs for them. I will already be doing them myself.

I have some plumbers bidding the same way. Shoot for the moon on the price.

My business policy is to give my best customers the best price all the time and keep them as my customers forever! This has worked well for us for over 50 years.

My thoughts as well. My first big customer is still my best. Have not gave him a bid in years. Just gives me the go ahead and I make sure he gets the best price. My 10th year and repeat customers are half are work.

I'm a professional "investor" for a private equity group owned by my parents. We sometimes dabble in real estate speculation. Currently selling off the family owned and operated orchard lands. Down too three parcels across the street from a new development, should be an easy sell situation.

Being an orchadist is a tough go any more, we've had ours for over 25 years and while costs skyrocket the returns haven't changed much since the 90s.

Insurance, all of it. The company I work for (INSGROUP) is in the top 100 in the US and one or two is some states. We have our own exclusive marine lines and commercial lines. If it needs insurance odds are we offer it. I focus in Marine and side x side business, but I/we do it all. I've been writing a bit more commercial this year as we are huge in commercial.

I search for new opportunities I guess.

I’ve started several businesses. I have a commercial property management company. Focused mainly on management of parking assets. We also provide building maintenance, security and cleaning services.

I own a real estate investment and management firm. Handle residential mainly.

I own two restaurants.

In my spare time my wife and I flip homes.

Basicly if it needs to be cooled we either make it, install it or service it.

That was 1-14-2008,

Now 10 years later and growing the business and my waist line. Whens that wait loss challenge?

As a former terminal manufacturer, you got a tough competitive job that is changing every day.
You got that right. I was hesitant on even calling us a merchant service provider. More of a complete business solution company now.

Now that I have the time (and contacts) I'd like to help out at the family's olive oil import business
