Whats that sayin "The Golden Years" yeah thats it, and its bull shit, the Golden Years suck!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always been a healthy type guy up until we retired in 2002 (at age 62) and moved to Havasu, had a few pretty good years until 2011 and then the barn door opened, had something like 8 surgeries in the next few years and still going thru some other stuff, like Carotid artery suff right now, hopefully I make it out of it
BUT IT BEATS THE ALTERNATIVE LOL

Readers are a great stop gap.
But I highly recommend having a vision check up if one hasn’t done that yet.
I used them for years, until about 4-5 years ago when I could not pass my DOT annual physical vision test. Left eye would not focus.
I begged a re-test and passed by memorizing one line real quick.
But she said it was the last time.
So finally I went in a couple years ago and had them checked.
A pterygium surgery and a cataract surgery, and a set of bifocals later and all is well!
I went from 1.5’s to 3.5’s in maybe 8-10 years?
Had readers scattered everywhere, and all my coworkers did as well. Home, work, everywhere you turned there was readers…lol.
Now we all have real glasses.

I have an expensive pair I keep at home, and a couple pairs of cheaper Walmart ones that I use at work and for everyday.

I feel young in my head, still ride dirt bikes, jet skis, skateboards, bikes. Just constantly remind myself that healing is now a SLOW process. My latest injury involved 3 nights in a hospital, broken fibula (surgery), torn rotator cuff, and a large hematoma on my hip. Loved my orthopedic doctor, she said keep doing what you love, just know you'll need to take some pain meds once in a while. I'll stop being active when I no longer can be. Until then game on!!!! Knowing I'm only 12 years from my dad's age of death I remind myself to enjoy life.

Just turned 64 last week. Have/Had a very active life. But 3 knee replacements in 4 years has slowed me down.
Yes, after the first full knee replacement I returned to my active life, and broke it, had to replace the replacement.

I have to keep moving. Can;t sit still. If I have a couple days of relaxing it's hard to get going again.

Pain? It's just weakness leaving our body. remember that from my high school coach.
Well, I must have been saving it up all these years because it's there everyday now.

As far as readers go, Home Depot has really good ones to choose from. I'll buy a pack of them and spread them around my house and cars.
My hearing has suffered over the years from playing music. Not sure if I'm ready to go full-on hearing aids so bought a pair of Apple's AirPods Pro 2's with hearing health built in. They have a feature that acts as hearing aids. I'll put them in whenever I'm at work when I really need to listen to direction in meetings. They work very well, no one ever asks me why I'm wearing them because they are so common, I also have them setup so they read texts to me. Pretty slick..

I've mentioned this before about Siri or Google Assistant. For us older guys it can be an important tool to help us through the day, especially while driving, sending texts with Siri is a game changer. I try to use this Siri as much as possible. I try to get my Dad to use it more.

The morning walk from the bed to the bathroom can be pretty painful. I often ask myself "Man, what did I do yesterday to make me this sore?" lol

Mornings are no doubt the toughest time of day for me.

I do my stretchs, hit the weights, I'm up to 40 pushups now, and then a three to four mile walk.

If I DON'T do these things, my legs and back will ache like a bitch from a lifetime of working on cars.

Well, ummmmmm actually this thread delivers. 53 this year, bought my first readers about 8 months ago. My welding improved exponentially.

No joint pain, no medical issues yet. Eat well, carnivore mostly, little processed and nearly no regularly consumed sugars or artificial ingredients.
No fast food ever. No alcohol, no medications if I can change diet to avoid.

Wife and I are making our 5, 10, 15, 20 year plans. I regularly work 12-14 hour days. Our plan is to start taking one month off a year for a few years and then switch up to two months in ten years. I have no plan to retire but rather slow down gradually.

I do not fear death but I want to enjoy life as much as I can especially in these years where I can afford to do most anything I want. My wants and my resources have finally swapped places. I am enjoying being the patriarch of a growing family.

Dad died at 47, his das at 59. Grandfather on mothers side lived to 93 and was still climbing trees at 89.
