The Warthog can maintain flight with 1/2 the tail missing and or a wing severely damaged or missing. Also the only "Fighter" aircraft in play currently using High Bypass engines (more efficient) so it can haul more, um....cargo ;) with weight available range.

Or its a shinny chick with big tits.

All same. 😁

They fly low over LOTO all the time, always in pairs. I was told they are doing practice runs attacking the dam and other targets.

The HOG is/was so far ahead of its time. Unbelievable capabilities and love hearing that sound. If you’re on the wrong end of the sound it it’s already to late to hear it, you’re done.

I have a friend that had a few tours in Iraq. He said that "hodji" knew the sound of those turbines, and feared them more than anything. When I asked why, he said "because that plane could cruise low, slow and look them in the eyes"

Inner workings of the early guns. This was at the Pima Air Museum. Some weird stuff going on!

and to think some parts of the government want to get rid of them. If they do does that mean they will sell them off.

Heard the "replacement" for that role is the cropduster. More than ugly, but belt feds in the wings, like a WWII fighter. Same concept, slow moving ground support, but more agile and guns with less maintenance.

My son was on a carrier while in the Navy. I was fortunate to spend 10 days with him on their "Tiger Cruise" from Hawaii to San Diego. We were arguing one day about the A-10 Warthog, the F-14 and the FA-18B, and the superiority of each jet. My choice was the A-10 Warthog as the ultimate fighting machine, but, he said the F-14 was the best aircraft of all times. Wen I asked why, he said the F-14 intake was THE place to have sex with other enlisted gals, and would always be his favorite.

Damn kids!

A bad ass piece of flying gun platform for sure. Supposed to be out of the inventory in a couple of years. I read the other day the squadron at Davis Monthan has been deactivated and there are only a few other bases left that still have the airplane actively flying. The war in Ukraine has shown that close air support with a manned aircraft isn't really feasible in a modern conventional war. Heck, all these were really designed to do was slow down the Russians tank battalions as they poured through the Fulda Gap and allow time for NATO time to drop a couple tactical nukes.

My shop at Barber's Point Air Station was right next to the NAS runway. A-10 Bastards always hit the after burners right next to the shop, shook the hell out of our metal building.

Never bothered me, after the first couple of times. I love the sound of freedom.

I didn't think the A-10 turbofan engines had an afterburner. Could be wrong though.
