These two records changed my take on music in my late teens. I was pretty closed minded to the thought of listening to synthesizer bands.

I was a rocker...VH, Rush, Zep, Sabbath, Crue, JP etc.

Then it happened.

Somehow I ended up with Construction Tim Again and I listened to the record several times. Admittedly, I was probably high lol. But anyways, I was blown away at how good they were. My moment of clarity was....if the artist is selling millions and millions of records - it's probably because it's good music! (the exception being Blink 182 and Nickelback; they just suck)

From that point forward, I became open to the idea of different genre's of music.

Give them a listen Napa.... :)

This one came across the email this morning - a new re-press in 180G vinyl, Gish by the Smashing Pumpkins. Such an iconic record. Along with Nirvana, kind of set the tone for the early 90's.

Bought it!

People gave Sinead shit for calling the Catholic church out...but was she wrong? She called Miley Cyrus out for acting like a hoe in Wrecking Ball.

Okay, maybe she should just STFU lol. In her prime, she was amazing.

Here, she sings about her divorce from her husband, John the drummer (playing in the background)

Thanks for reminding me.

Bjork's Birthday had just come out that summer and the reaction of friends and family not into music was a little mixed. But they all loved Sinead.

(And after both became well-known my musical taste was thought a little less odd.)

I forgot about the Bjork song - hey, that's another one for Napa's birthday!

On Sinead, I remember watching the 89' Grammy's and was like "woah, who is that?" I bought her CD the next day.

For those that don't know, it was the Grammy awards and Sinead went on stage with a shaved head (an f* you to the industry that promoted only hot chicks) w/Chuck D from Public Enemy painted on the side of her head in crosshairs (an f* you to the Academy for discriminating against blacks and rap), dressed in Doc Martens, a halter top, and jeans with her son's onezie tucked into the rear of her pants (another f* you to the recording industry who said mother's were not marketable).

But beyond that, her first two records are amongst my 10 favorites of all time, all genre's included.

In 91' I was working in LA driving on Wilshire in my crappy Mazda pickup without air, listening to KROQ. SOB, they announced a Sinead concert at the Wiltern...which was only a few blocks away! I remember pulling up to the box office on Wilshire, hopping out and scoring 2 front row tickets.

But I later blew the show off due to my much anticipated first trip to Havasu, which also changed my focus on life (a Hallett Vector went ripping by us, but it took another 4 years to make the Hallett happen.) I'm bummed I missed the show, though.

....the pussified cover released in the U.S.. We weren't ready for the other cover lol lol....

I don't know if the album was even available in the US by Christmas 1987.

I brought the UK version back from London with me.

Even funnier now that I think about it. Of course friends and family would be a little reluctant to listen.

But only made it better when they did.
