I am not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but I would highly recomend using something other than carpet. I had planned to put snap in carpet over the vinyl on my sun tracker but I quickly fell in love with the vinyl. No more wet carpet to deal with, if someone spills something you just hose it off or dunk the bow under a wave, it isn't as hot as I expected it to be either.

On a positive note you woke up today !I thought about it, but too many drawbacks.
oMG dude. I'm in so sore today today! And of course it had to the only sunny day this week as well!!!
Everything hurts from crawling under that POS and getting all the nuts undone.
Towards the end, I got a Bit of a system down, but I still had to go under for a few.
Not to mention lifting all that 3/4 inch plywood around.
I've Definitely had better days.
On a positive note you woke up today !
Coming along nicely. So remember this pic?

Some drunk fuckers must have assembled this thing Friday after lunch. I needed to make Sure everything lined up this time!
And another interesting thing...
This marine plywood I bought was 1/16th of an inch bigger in every direction. Doesn't sound like much but it does add up quickly, so I started in the middle and worked outwards from there. The ends have to be cut anyway, yes?
Every other cross rail had to be moved, so as to line up perfectly with each joint. Some just had to be loosened and pushed. One had to be unbolted and the holes redrilled. Slow going and a pain in the ass!!! But now everything is lining up correctly. So each board will be properly supported.

Slow going. But getting there...

Coming along nicely.
The phrase..I'm up to my ass in alligators when all I did was to go in to drain the pond.
Come on man.....I saw 40oz and my mind went a complete different direction ...
No doubt it will be really nice..40oz carpet. It's some of the nicest stuff we could find. Can't wait sink my toes into it.
The old stuff was like cardboard with fuzz on it!
You gonna put the spacers between the carpet and the rails to allow water to move and drain?40oz carpet. It's some of the nicest stuff we could find. Can't wait sink my toes into it.

They are 3/8" plastic spacers placed under the rails at each bolt down location to elevate the rail and keep dirt and water from being trapped. I'm on the phone so I can't copy and paste an example but you can see them at pontoonstuff.com. Search for "pontoon fence riser kit".I'm trying to picture what you're thinking here, but I just quite can't figure it out?
In any case...
The carpet Edges will be sandwiched between the plywood and rails. The rails actually have a C channel built into them for this purpose.
My fear is the carpet is gonna be too thick for this to happen, but Louie says not to worry, he's done this before. Big mallet to the rescue.
I tried to find a pic online, but I don't see any other rails like the ones I have. Next time I'm down there, I'll post up side view pic of the rails.

Is the upholstery going to be black?Just so you can see what I'm talking about. The configuration will be the same, but the upholstery will all be brand new...

Boats looking good old man.....needed some youth to get ya moving quicker eh? A little help goes a long way...you just may make it by summer yet. Is Louie going to teach you to sew next? Haha95 percent done with the deck...
Need drill a few more holes after I finalize the helm placement and get the fencing permanently mounted and a couple more elevator bolts installed.
My daughter's boyfriend helped me cut the final piece around the engine and get a whole bunch of bolts installed today.
I'll probably move the whole mess back about five inches or so, cause right now, there is more deck out back than in front. I'm thinking that might look weird?
I'll figure it out tomorrow...

Before moving helm back think about the extra weight with the larger gas tank, and who knows you may an upgrade to the motor a deal slaps you in the face and new motor is 100 lbs heavier.Boats looking good old man.....needed some youth to get ya moving quicker eh? Really look great.
Not that I'm any kind of expert but the 4 ft forward placement should be a nice spot.Definitely not going to repower. I may mill the heads .030 down the road a bit, but that will be next winters project.
You're right. The new four strokes are Way heavier and I don't want to add all That weight.
Did some homework last night, and I should be able to get a 40 gallon tank in its new home. That will be more than enough for my needs.
The helm will actually be about 4 feet forward of its previous position. Gonna order a new throttle cable today. That length may ultimately decide the Exact final position of the helm.
I'm going center everything (left to right) directly over the center toon, and (obviously) move it all forward a bit.
It should be a much more balanced boat in the end.

agreeIf the upholstery is going to be beige and brown, the dark brown will look much better...
Hey Joe, just read through this looking good, on the front ladder what I’ve done on my Pontoon is installed a RV step slides out and folds down 2 or 3 steps
That deck looks almost too good to cover up. Lou make it out of the kaiser prison yet?Couple of updates...
Deck is done. Next step is drilling holes and then laying down the carpet.

The plastic seat bases are pretty warped, and I don't want them completely collapsing. 1/4 inch angle aluminum on the inside and 1/4 flat on the outside should do the trick.

Hydraulic steering showed up this week. I installed the pump into the helm today. Need to install the steering cylinder and order the hoses next.

Nuthin but fun I tell ya!

Coolio....thx for the update.Yeah. He went to Elsinore yesterday. Not sure if he came back or not yet. Big family thing out there.
I'll be at the shop most of the day today.
Edit: His motorhome is parked out front of his house. I guess he's back!
Did you seal the deck with CPES ?
If the seat is outside of the fence no one can sit there while the boat is in operation. So I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how I'm gonna finish the back of the boat, now that I've decided to move everything forward.
So Many different ideas, each of em more crazy (expensive) than the next.
So today I just sat there staring at the thing, and figured out what I'm gonna do...
Gonna cut the existing fence on the port side, carry it straight over to what already exists, and have A1 build me a whole new rear facing seat, that I will put the new (much bigger) fuel tank underneath.
Oil tank will Maybe go in the engine well, down low, and then we can put a removable carpeted cover over it.
Took forever just to figure This out, taking the batteries, fuel and oil tanks into consideration.
I'm happy to have Finally put this issue to rest.
Unless you guys think of something I missed??

Having had a toon years ago the only thing I have to add is that the majority of the weight should be towards the stern to prevent nose diving in rough water. I had a foot or two of water over the nose a couple times because people gathered towards the bow.So I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how I'm gonna finish the back of the boat, now that I've decided to move everything forward.

You may have mentioned earlier but how large of a fuel tank are you adding? Other than weight almost can't be too big.
A little moveable footrest in front of the rear seat would be nice.
Another $20,000 in parts and you'll have a sweet ass $15,000 toon.
I am following along, as I have thought about doing the same thing. Would you mind sharing costs with us?
