Dear Fuckwits,

Did the Department of Energy make money last year?

Did the CDC turn a profit?

Are we seeing a reasonable ROI with the military?

Did y'all get your Bureau of Land Management Dividend checks?

Of COURSE not. Because that's not what governments do. Government provide essential services. Like. The. Fucking. Mail.

Shut UP about the cost of the Post Office. It's so essential, it's in the goddamned Constitution.

Respectfully,

You really are a moron. The USPS is set up to be self sufficient, (which it has never been) the others mentioned in your rant are not. Can you see the difference, didn't think so.

The Postal Service Act in 1792 signed by President Washington was put into place specifically to assure free speech, national growth and to protect personal privacy. It was always intended to require national support to exist.

Washington understood that the British Crown's postal service prior to and during the Revolution gave them monopolistic control over the flow of information which was a powerful tool that the British colonial leaders used to their advantage. The founders wanted to make sure that the flow of information was readily available and the act purposely subsidized shipping rates not only for letters, but for newspapers as they believed an informed citizenship was a better citizenship.

But...but...but...

A lot has happened in the last 200 years. The postal reorganization act of 1970 created the USPS as a self-sufficient corporation with government oversight.

But don’t take my world for it, it’s literally in black and white from the GAO:

I believe the black and white say "primarily with revenues.....", and as a matter of fact, the USPS received an annual appropriation as a general public service subsidy until 1982 and has had over a dozen individual appropriations since 1982. Annual appropriations would be consistent with the requirement that it is "primarily" self sustaining would it not?

And why after 50 years since the PRA was enacted, and over 3 years of his administration, did Mr. Trump all of a sudden have one of his biggest donors go in there and try to cut mail service? Why is it all so important right before an election where he has repeatedly stated mail in voting is fraudulent to all of a sudden try to make it completely self sufficient in one fell swoop? Just a coincidence?

Or maybe efficient government is now a focus for an administration running the largest deficit in the history of the US? The largest unemployment rate in the history of the US? The quickest collapse in revenues for businesses in America including the USPS?

Why is PPP and a bailout appropriate for Ruth Chris Steak House, American Airlines and even foreign air carriers serving the US, but the USPS has to all of a sudden be "self sufficient" during a pandemic?

What a kerfuffle it must be to put together such a complicated puzzle? :)

Nope.

The goal is for USPS to be financially sustainable.
And the GAO says it is not.

What pandemic has the USPS operated under for the last 13 years of losses?
COVID? No not that...
TDS? Trumps only been in office ~4 years, so not that.

When private companies show they can do the SAME fucking thing and not lose $8.8b last year?

Seriously, why do you argue shit that is so simple to shoot down?

Where in the constitution does it say letter delivery CAN NOT have competition? WHERE??

LOL. What is the breakeven for the post office deliveries? 60 billion a year yields an $8.8b loss, even with massive amounts of junk mail. Seems like they would need to have roughly 200 billion pieces of first class a year if they were to break even at the .55 you mentioned, and that is if costs remain the same. So, let's just admit the post office model will never work. It hasn't in the past, does not now, and will not in the future. Given that the constitution states that the government will make sure rural areas are served, there are a million other ways to do it other than having 600,000 employees Lose $8.8 fucking billion a year.

Why even mail ANYTHING now adays?

UPS and FedEx can deliver. At what cost? We don't know, but to subsidize you sending pen pal notes to your favorite convict in jail, sorry we don't need that.

Seriously, you idiots say 2A was only about muskets, but somehow think first class mail is a holy sacrament? Fucking nutz!!!!

99% of the mail I receive is junk mail...... it goes from my mail box to the garbage can w/o entering my house. Sounds like a waste of money and resources to me. Actually, I consider it harassment.... I did not ask for this shit! It is a shame we can not block Junk Mail as we do "telemarketers"

And now YOU idiots advocate distributing voting ballets in the same manner as JUNK MAIL!

There isn’t one because private companies are designed to make money, not piss it down the drain.

Why not ask “show me the private company that has an unsustainable business mode but can still remain in business...”

USPS will never make money, you know why???

The postal union, yes that’s right it is run by a union that has waisted money on golden nest egg pensions that would never pencil out in any company, private or government.
