When the boat hooks in a turn at 130mph, you aren't thinking about anything
I realize that. Been plenty of accidents where if I thought it would happen I would have done things differently but you can’t make decisions that fast at the moment it happens. But I would prefer bailing on water, and not riding it out to some later conclusion. It’s the reason there aren’t seatbelts in boats.

there’s a video of them pulling the boat back to the dock. Floated on its own with minimal help from pumps

Interesting... article states 5 people onboard and nobody was ejected but it then states a passerby [boater?] rescued them [guessing another boater witnessed from water and went to bank to pull em out]. 2 went to hospital, others no injuries.

Article stated 5 occupants in the boat, NONE ejected and 2 SERIOUSLY injured. The vics were taken to a rescue rondevous point by another boat in the area....
Almost COMPLETELY contrary to the initial statements post here originally.

Started wearing a safety lanyard last year as a precaution. Felt weird at first like I was going to pull it out and kill the boat while just cruising down the lake. Know it’s second nature and feels weird not having it on.

WOW, really mowed those trees down. Thank goodness they were okay.

Saw a post that the lowers were removed. Studs probably bent on the extraction. The lowers couldn't have been in great shape anyway, just preventing more damage at that point.

I've been curious about that run. Running some big boats through bayous & forested inlets. There has to be soo much debris in the water. From some videos too seems so narrow, little room for error.

That’s a tough boat and a shit show. I’m hoping every one is ok. But where is this water? And why are they pushing 130 on skinny water?

That is a lot of speed to be carrying passengers, shit happens and why would a driver want to hurt/kill extra on board.
Back in the 90's watched a Hydrostream Vector with 2.5 Merc blow over with just the driver.
He had a impact vest, goggles, helment and he was hurting when pulled out of the water don't think he was going much over 95.
Goof way for a driver to end up behind bars if someone had died.
In Michigan we have a 55 mph speed limit with in 5 miles of the shore, and the patrol enforce with radar.
Seeing this not such a bad idea

Keep those regs in Michigan. We've got enough to deal with here in Commiefornia. 🙄

I heard from a friend of a friend all occupants in the MTI were tossed from the boat when it hooked. I told Tank that same thing. I'd like to apologize to Tank & anyone else because I trusted a friends info.
Thrilled to hear it sounds like everyone will be ok & no serious injuries.

I wear my lanyard religiously on my 44mph pontoon. It's a simple habit that I've had for 20 years.
This may not be a ejected issue.

Don’t think it matters if they were tossed or rode it out. All that matters is they’re all alive and breathing. Ya there will be a road to recovery for some but it’ll be a story to tell. Glad all are ok. Don’t think you should have to apologize for anything.

Rob, you weren’t the only one that text me photos and the story was the same. Hooked pitched people out boat kept going.

Like stated above. Pitched out or not, kindve irrelevant really. They’re ok is what matters.

And again, for me, it’s a good reminder to wear lanyards regardless. I don’t wear mine enough admittedly.

Looks like there's gasoline in the water, that expensive shunt might get even more so. I would imagine there are law enforcement or game and fish people watching the retrieval.
No worse than the mess in Ohio.

Does the boat driver get a FREE PASS because he was driving an MTI?

To me, it looks like complete negligence on the part of the driver.

This thread would be completely different if it were a rental boat? Correct?

Stupid is stupid, no matter the value of the boat. Sorry……. Just calling a Spade a Spade.

At least the boat did not crash into a home, boatlift, dockhouse, people, or the many other things a ghost riding boat can hit.

Anybody want to chime in about “Negligence”? Or does he just get a FREE pass because he has a cool looking boat?

I’d like to wait until we find out if it’s driver or mechanical error

I've boated that river, can't imagine getting a bus like that through many of the corners at 130.

Maybe the drives were removed just to make dragging the boat out easier?

I cant believe 5 people walked away from that accident... Wow someone was looking down on those people!
I mean “walked away” may be a stretch. Limped away. Banged up. Hospital visits. Lucky to be alive.

Some reports say ejected. Most say a couple people of the 5 onboard went to the hospital. Alive but banged up.

I’m actually surprised how good of shape that boat is in considering what it went through

There has never been a story shared, that didn't change when the 1st had Facts came out.

That is all.

When has that ever stopped the annual RDP Olympic Games?

Who will get the gold this year in the Rushing to Judgements and Jumping to Conclusions events?

New events for 2023 are Skinny Tire Asshole Assumption Making and the Shopping Cart Stereotype!

Really, speed at incident is a little meaningless - owner had 4 other lives in his hands. Judgement isn’t his strong suit, regardless of boat value or brand. Ego is a strong vice, and has gotten to many very rich men - this is ANOTHER example.

I agree. Bad situation but that boat held up and sounds like it saved lives.

Could you imagine a smaller boat at even half that speed running aground and hitting trees. scary

I agree with you on this. we all remember the asshole in the Fountain years ago and his poor judgment and out of control boat seriously hurt people. This crash is very similar in some ways.

It amazes me how everyone rushes to judgement without even having any knowledge of the circumstances.

Will everyone walk back their opinions if it comes out that a Jet ski or a wakeboard boat cut him off and he turned hard to avoid a collision?

Where did you see the video to confirm it was similar? Post it!
