When you think about it BV is a perfect venue for boat racing.

Other than being completely badass, what does a dual engine high HP setup like this do for your in ski racing? I know nothing about it. I just imagine skiing behind this mean bastard must be like tubing behind a jet boat - only fun for the driver. Thanks for sharing.

For ski racing, a boat with a lot of horsepower is able to plant the nose and knock down rough water for the skier, huge advantage to the skier. I don't know for sure, he probably has a ballast tank in there too, most of the other ski race boats do now days for the same reason.

Learn something everyday. I over here thinking you're trying to pull the skier at 130mph.

Is this a new boat or did the old boat with twins just get repainted and new motors? I recall the one I remember awhile back was like purple and something, and I thought the old boat had carbureted nascar small blocks with regular blowers not the whipples.

For whatever reason the old boat sounded like a freight locomotive coming. The new boat just sounds like two loud motors, the note is not the same.

Gotta hand it to Avila though, it’s badass and he’s the only one doing it.

I was wondering the same thing. New boat, or new power in the old boat? I see it a few times a year, so definitely different blowers at least.

He has two engines because he couldn't fit 3. ;)

I read somewhere, probably here, that they changed motors to fit a class maybe in Europe or? Had to be under 300cid I believe.

Well anyone with a good boat that is popular to ski behind is going to get the good skiers so it would be desirable to make the worlds eligible for their rules so you can pull the same skiers at this worlds with that boat.

I recall the first? boat had the nascar motors for a displacement rule for engines so it was eligible. I would think this boat is the same displacement even if the blowers and fuel delivery changed.

Mike has built a few... Have to be under 600ci (from memory, have been wrong before) for world's.

Bernico built one too

There’s also Randy’s twin drive single engine Nordic that takes the two drives idea but powers them both with one engine hooked to a splitter. He makes do with a giant Mercury Racing engine (1350?).

Probably not as heavy without the second engine so probably doesn’t plow as good a hole for the skier.

I know it won’t ever happen; but I’ve always wished there was test reviews of these massive power small ski boats. I’d love to know what one would do in a pleasure version not towing a skiier.
Handling, turning, slow-mid speeds, top speed, etc… The type of tests you’d see all the other “normal” boats get reviewed about.
I’ve also always been a huge fan of this big single with twin drive setup. It would be so cool to me if this setup worked so good and was reliable to be done in a bigger V in the 28-32’ range.

These ski boats always amaze me and the skiers amaze me even more!

I would think these boats would ace all those tests. They aren’t drag boats, they are designed to turn well left and right, slow down, speed up and flat out haul the mail on command.

Additionally they do all that while maintaining about 15 feet of clearance to other boats on a course.

The aussies run their boats on really tight rivers. We sometimes do river races like Parker.

I really wish I wasn't so busy this weekend. I'd love to run up to BV and check the races out.

I’m very aware of this.
But do you know the test result data? I don’t. But I’d love to know and help decide if go fast packages like these would be a good fit for other uses besides the current use.

Take a look at the success of Marty Wells and his Wellscraft and VTrap line of boats. He basically started from scratch and took his hull design and made them either in a competition version or a play version. I don't know how many he actually built, but I believe there are only a few in existence.

Two counter rotation drives that close have to track like it’s on rails.
