Zero advertising...I'd be pissed if taking the boat out for the day to find it closed!!
1/2 of the lake is open for public. Yea. No advertisements no schedule. Just showed up. Trying to show my son the boats. Pretty small event. Nordic hauler is out here though.

Yup NWSRA at its finest. They dont want new members or to grow the sport, or to even welcome spectators. Its a cult of personality with Region II. A very exclusive club just for themselves, and those they deem worthy. The rest they treat like crap and hope they leave.

Yea. We drove out there. Luckily it was only 20 min drive. Pretty much nothing for spectators.

I’ve watched that video a bunch of times - never gets old. I’d love to have the opportunity to do it !

Actually quite the opposite I walked the pits in Parker in 2008 met a nice group of people and have been involved since!!.

There used to be A Ski race Forum on here years ago but maybe didn't get much activity so Dave removed.

WarPath is insane and blast to have on the course. Unfortunatelly had some mechanical issues Saturday in the 15 minute unlimited Race.

I would agree we need to somehow get more information about events out there to the public but with a volonteer base board and limited funds we are still struggling to draw new members. We are hopeful to keep the sport alive and have attracted a handfull of young skiers this season.
We need some young blood to circulate more on social media and other sites.

We had a fist time skier join the team this weekend and Jonathon took home 1st place for 60 mph class out of 11.
By the way Beaver!! SkiRacr who started this thread just turned 40 and killed it this weekend secured 1st place for the season in 75 mph,
Unlimited and 2nd in Mens Open behind my F-2 boat 222. We also won Women's open and Mens age group.

We usually hang out and have a couple beers Saturday after the races walk around and say hello as I said a very friendly approachable group of people.
I am happy to chat and bring on anyone interested in getting involved.

How does bracket racing with skiers work? All go 70 and someone wins?
I observed and @LazyLavey drove his Brendella at a Pasadena ski club race at lower castaic. It was a lot of fun.

It's a 75 mph speed limit race, you can go 75.9 without breaking out. In smooth water like this if you have the pole you have a significant advantage. Now when we race in Havasu and the water is rough it's totally different. I think the last race there our team maybe hit 70... So if you have to slow down for the skier, you gotta get right back on the pace. With the Nordic, they can hold the turn at 75 where we were slightly scrubbing speed through the turn and accelerating at the exit buoy.

it’s really pretty easy to get the word out and draw new members. Dare I say it’s as easy as starting a thread in here and on other social media platforms.

It costs no money and little time.. I haven’t dealt with the politics of ski racing in a long time.. I think it was about the time someone from the NWSRA told me “I had to have a disclaimer on my own website saying I wasn’t affiliated with them” was the last time.

That would be like the nmma telling me I’d need to put up a disclaimer saying I’m not affiliated with them as well.. lol.

I had gone to some of the events and made videos and per the request of a few friends asked people to go and see if it would be for them. When some new skiers showed up some of the guys in charge maybe felt a little threatened or something I don’t know. I was just doing it for fun and the love of the boats so I moved on.

From what I’ve heard the “young blood” has tried to make or introduce changes.

Fell on deaf ears lol

They should let the young blood run it, ditch the bullshit politics and start promoting it again. Nobody knows about the races unless you are literally one of the teams. They have some at the springs and I live here and don’t hear about them until after they are over. It’s crazy.

If they wanted new blood it would be easy enough. First timer class. Production boat etc. I think njba did that with rental lifelines and looser rules slower boats. The CRR and UBR had looser rules also. String on coil wire kill, I think you could run with a ski vest in slowerboats, accommodations were made. I realize it’s a different insurance era though.

They have “grass roots” classes where you can basically show up and the teams will put enough equipment together for you to try it out. Back when I put it on here they got three or four skiers for a few years out of it. Justin hill did it, Dona Bozeman and a few others.

I never said the teams were unfriendly, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The leadership is unfriendly.

We were in ski racing full time (circles and marathons) for 12 years straight. Ran every race, sprints and marathons in NorCal, SoCal and Nevada and Arizona. It was a blast to do and I had tons of fun driving and observing and helping patrol and score.

We never had the money Randy and Buckles and those guys (and Avila) had but those guys say hi every time we see them. They don’t have to but they do. That’s what makes someone feel included.

When we got in it the leadership sucked and when we left the leadership sucked.

We tried to fix it for a year, myself and some friends got elected to the Region 2 board. We got sponsors for every race, advertised the hell out of it, put out a full color printed Race Program for the entire year and we wound up running all the region 2 races as well as the region 2 marathons. It was the only year the Region finished the year in the black and not the red. We figured we set the new standard and didn’t run for re election. Well the old guard moved back in and went right back to doing what they had been doing and nothing ever changed.

So we’ve considered returning (hell we even built a boat for ski racing and never even got to use it) but I think we’ll wait for the current leadership to die first.

One of the few reasons we do Catalina is because the race is run by LB B&SC and not NWSRA. They are not only friendly, they welcome us back every year. Something NWSRA never did and never does.

The years you ran the enduro were the best years I was involved. At an advanced age I understand boat racing should be fun first because nobody gives a shit about results two months after it’s over. I’m still waiting for a trophy and money from an enduro at Elsinore in 2016🤔

Saw Warpath today doing some testing at Holland Riverside Marina on the delta. That boat looks and sounds sweet ripping up the river.
We launched there for short lunch run. One of my trailer license plate bolts came loose and one of the guys zip tied it for me while I was tieing up my boat.
