I'm surprised I couldn't find this here when I searched.

Student in a frat sees homeless guy breaking into his car, goes out to confront him, some type of altercation occurs, student stabs homeless guy, stays on scene to cooperate with police, claims self defense, booked for murder, $2 million bail set with no criminal record.

So much for little to no bail judges in LA.

Sounds like they are more against you protecting your property than they are against long rap sheet criminals murdering and fleeing the scene...

He's perceived as having privilege since he's in a frat. It negates his Hispanic roots and therefore he is to suffer like the white man he aspires to be....... according to the media and the left.

Hello…..haven’t you been watching? They want to make it clear how law abiding citizens handle a property crime. You have no rights to protecting your property. They expect you to walk away and let the scum of the earth do what ever they want. You can’t do anything to stop them. In the Clown World we are living in the kid is in the wrong. Sad day for sure.

Thoughts on using a Byrna gun in this ordeal? This guy is now gonna spend the next several years of his life defending his actions, wrongful death suits etc... Don't get me wrong, I'm all about having this deadbeat off the streets.

Keyboard warriors take note.

If the perp is not inside your house actually threatening you and I'll add to that carrying a lethal weapon it's your fault if you lay a hand on them or empty a magazine into him.

Add to that the new California law where they want every firearm in a state approved safe it seems they want the criminals safe.

Remember anything worth less than $1,000 isn't a crime anymore.

I’d rather have a “burner gun” Like a burner phone but better. 👍

My CCW instructor said do not go towards a situation or a shooter, retreat at all cost and if the situation or shooter comes to you defend yourself.

Where the kid went wrong is he left the house with a knife, if he went out with nothing but what God gave him and the homeless guy pulled a knife and he took it away and killed him or the homeless guy got aggressive and he hit him and he died he would be at school right now.

I 100% support this kid and what he did but I do understand where he went wrong

You’re spot on. I’d try to scare someone off but would never engage to protect property in CA. If the kid had the knife on him going into this it isn’t going to end well. Even if someone is threatening you the best option is to get away. There are plenty of states where you can engage. CA isn’t one.

I always have two knives on me, one multi-tool, one flip. The only way I'd intend them as weapons would be the same situations where I'd draw. Those situations would involve harm to my family. I won't be the armed aggressor at this point in life, but I won't be a victim of one either.

I don't know anything about frats or college life, but I'm thinking a young SC student would also have been immediately sobriety tested as well. In the 90s, I knew some guys that sold large quantities of weed at the dorms. Worthwhile to make the drive into town every Thursday night.

This was about 13 years ago. Short story that I heard goes that Bikram (Bik) was having an argument with his girlfriend at their apartment. A bystander approached them and somehow intervened, wanting them to be quiet or try to break up the argument. Bik and the bystander got into a fight, Bik pulled his knife and stabbed the guy in the chest, killing him on scene.

Bik claimed self defense as the guy was supposedly on top of him holding him down and telling others to call the police.

I worked with Bik at the bike shop here in Goleta for a few months. Bikram is 100% off kilter and a threat to anyone that crossed his path the wrong way. I was always on edge when around him, he scared the entire shop when he was there. He once got into an argument with someone at a party in Isla Vista (UCSB college town) and wrote their names in .40 rounds, he showed them to me.

I guess things can change quite a lot. Back then, you could be completely mentally unstable, kill someone for trying to break up an argument, then walk away.

Now a days...We have the stories that prompt this thread.

So apparently the kid who did the stabbing...

Was Not the owner of the car being broken into.

Bad decisions all around.
OOF!

Regardless, in CA you can't use force to defend property, just a life. And, CA also defines a dog as property so, if someone walks up your driveway and kills your dog, you will be arrested and charged if you go after him with any form of violence.

Why do I live here again? Oh yeah, the weather! 🤔

we need to turn this back against them. People can Identify what ever they want to be, well I identify my dog as my child. Why not? He is better behaved than half the shitbags out there.

But is it a great day in ca🤣?

This is how they handle justice in ca you are not allowed to defend yourself or property and they will try and make an example out of him.

Communists. They want you to give up your ability to protect your property because "That's what we have police for", but then when the police won't protect your property and you take matters into your own hands YOU are the bad guy.

This day and age they will arrest for being a rapist with that shit in your possession
Lol
Everyone seems limited to guns and knives.
There’s more practical means of stopping people, or dogs.
Mail men (what few are left), meter readers, even pest guys carry mace.
Every female I know carries mace.
College kid could have easily drove the guy off or subdued him with a little can of mace.

Yeah, seems like mace would have done the job for that actor who came up on some guys trying to steal his catalytic convertors in LA...

Really sad times in this state when a criminal has more rights and you are prosecuted for protecting your property. My brother and sis n law both have their CCW in OC but even so if you ever have to use it you are going to have a shit storm of problems and lawsuits. That's what has steered me away from applying.

I did however buy a Taser Pulse that came recommended from a few LEO buddies which I now carry. It is legal in Commiefornia but not going to help if its more than one perp or if someone is amped up on drugs. Possibly could have helped this kid? I figure something is better than nothing and now I see the Taser Pulse is sold out everywhere? Taser and pepper spray to avoid gun and knife issues.

I’m a bit concerned with how many of you are conditioned by the DA and the state?!?!

If you can’t protect private property what can you protect?
In CA?
Good question. I’ve spent a total of 3 days there in the last 3 years or so, and that seemed like too much.

It's just a little cumbersome...

My wife and daughter carry small mace setups. Really just enough to get clear, which is all you really should need.

I guess to some here I'm a wuss. I won't take a life over a car, or really much else. Stuff's just stuff. Watching someone foam and aspirate blood in my face is rarely on my list of things to do. Pushing a knife into someone's chest cavity is pretty up close and personal.

Everything I own is insured.
I’m not shooting someone over a car unless they are assaulting me to take it.
The idea is to protect your life…not your muffler.
It’s funny you post the bat.
In the life saving situation I was in way back almost 40 years ago, a bat was what I had to save my mom.
It worked.

I often wonder if you had a dog say Dobie or Cane Corso etc let it out to protect your property and it chewed on the perp could you in turn be sued by the lowlife for the dog bites? Seems a possibility in this state?

Yes. But your homeowners insurance should cover it.
Homeowners would only cover a dog like that with a separate policy, often way more than the house policy . Most dogs are automatically blacklisted .
