If you read Putin's writings and the transcripts of some of his speeches he is fairly consistent in his words.
He wants to reconstitute the former USSR. Period.
He is no fool, on the contrary he is very adept at covering his own ass, and has no problems whatsoever killing anyone who lifts a finger against him in Russia. He is what he was...which is KGB. AS recently as last summer he was talking about what he has just done, and went as far as to mention Poland. He also knows NATO is at an all time weak place due to Europe not spending the bucks, and it's increasing its dependency on Russian energy.

It is my understanding that Russia has moved some troops towards the extreme northern border with Ukraine/Poland. While I sincerely hope those who think he will stop with Ukraine are right I think there are even odds he will continue on until he meets serious military resistance, which means a lot of Russians will die in Poland, because those people hate Russia with a Passion. and they would take great pride in fighting for Poland, and killing Russians. Lots of them.
But ultimately Poland, unless NATO steps in with both feet, would fall, and the Baltic States would be next, based on Putin's own words. Squeezing him economically is a good idea, but it will take a long time to squeeze him hard enough for him to give up one foot of ground he takes in this war he has started, and with China buying his coal, it may never happen. He just inked a deal for 100 million metric tons of Russian Coal to be sold to China. Those two are now linked at the hip.
And China...as I have said openly...China is just waiting. They will time it perfectly. If I was in Taiwan I would be looking to book a flight.

Here in America I think we are gonna see record prices for fuel and goods for the next year. Diesel fuel is gonna go up a bunch, and there is much truth to the statement, "if you got it a truck brought it".

I think there is an international consortium monitoring Reactor 4 and maintaining the sarcophagus. The political implications of a Russian takeover of the exclusion zone are anyone's guess.

Based on videos I've seen of the other reactors, it would be a monumental task to bring them back online. Expensive too. Then there's the background radiation level from Reactor 4 at those adjoining reactors. I'm not sure, but I think that would prevent technicians from working in other areas because of the risk of long term exposure.
