This was an interesting project that I learned from. The Tub Of Fools had a 2" custom drain plug that runs off a mechanical cable from the transom to a handle behind the passenger seat. The old foam plug was falling apart. My Brother Gregory
convinced me to make a new one. I fabricated a plug out of aluminum to the exact measurements on my lathe. Then used the aluminum plug to make a mold. Once the mold was complete, I made a brand new silicone drain plug that worked out better than I expected. Now, I will make 2 or 3 more drain plugs to have as a spares in case the current drain plug rips or gets worn out.

I really need to hang out with some of you more. The talent on this site is unreal. Made your own plug,. I mean, I wouldn't even know where to freaking begin.

Correct. The lever is right behind the messenger seat.

Pretty bitchen!

So when underway you open the plug and drain the boat. Then close before coming off plane?

I can see advantages when racing / washdowns etc. and i just hate any water in a boat….

Just cant be forgetful… lol!

Look at you being all ingenious and shit 😜. That’s really cool the way you came up with a solution to your dilemma. And kudos to your brother for the encouragement. Great job and results! 👍🏻

I'm adding a Bilge Pump. Hopefully I'll never need to open the drain plug while underway!

2” drain will move some water out of that hull quick, that’s a badass design.

thats one of Grier's drain plugs. he put that in almost every race boat he rigged. the OG plug us 1/2 of a rubber ball. and the bit about never forgetting to View attachment 1408195 shut it if the boat stops..... see the pic. :)
Grier did a great job with the rigging in the Tub of Fools. I'm pretty stoked since he helped me install my strut and turn fin in my 1st flatty back in 2006.

Not the greatest pictures, but here are a few shots of Griers setup.

Handle located right behind the passenger seat.

Part mounted on the floor that holds the cable. Then the end of the cable goes through the 3 bolt center of hole locater mounted on the transom.

That’s cool and simple, does it have any type of detent/lockout so it doesn’t accidentally get bumped or possibly bounce open during a GN race? Thanks for the updated pics.

It doesn't and over the weekend, I was just thinking about adding something in case that happens or someone hits it riding shotgun

our version Grier built in 78 is a lil different. more one piece cable mount and drain assembly.

but the actuator is the same. it goes over center so effectively keeps it open

or shut.
