Huge flames at Santiago Peak an hour ago are now smoldering embers. Cal Fire is badass.. also the Watchduty app is entertaining as hell.
Last hot day, then big cool down tomorrowHigh of 92 today for inland OC. Not much help for the fire fighters.
The video news conference interview posted by HTTP404 in post # 28, was informative in regards to how the fixed wing aircraft were working diligently to target that peak with retardant to save the those structures. You'd think by now they'd have given that area more clearance and had it maintained during desirable seasonal periods. But then I suppose there's no end to the list of the "Woulda and Shoulda's" when it comes to prioritizing how our tax monies should be spent, and rarely are.Apparently Cal Fire flew fixed wing aircraft in the middle of the night laying retardant to save all the communication towers.

Scorched your house once if I remember right or was that Pixie's?I dont miss these fires on bit. Thankfully all the people and there animals that we know are safe for now.
Wonder if the story of how the fire started at the RC Airpark is going to be publicized ? Flying planes into the brush on 100+ degree days perhaps ??
Or maybe not do the work with heavy equipment on one of the hottest, driest days in recent years?Have a water truck on the jobsite
To clear up the rumors... the Fire didn't start because of an RC Plane crashing.
Public Works Crews were working clearing brush around the RC Airport and had a blade strike on a rock or debris that sparked the fire.
This is interesting! I was looking for something like this. I was wanting to look back to see how many times Trabuco Cyn (Holy Jim) has gone up. Since I have been in Rancho Santa Margarita, 2018 Holy Fire, 2022 Santiago Fire, and today with the Airport Fire 2024.Found this California Wildfire Map History interactive map many of you may not be aware of, I found interesting as it relates to possible fuel load.
California Wildfire History Map
As the climate changes and forest fuel loads aren’t properly managed, California’s wildfire season is changing. See how it has shifted over time in this interactive map.projects.capradio.org
If you click on the History tab, you can choose to overlay or remove periods.
The IRONY, there was a crew specifically out to prevent a wildfire by creating a barrier to restrict access to the dried fuels and end up setting a blaze themselves. Saw the news brief on this story. To clear up the rumors... the Fire didn't start because of an RC Plane crashing.

Work still has to get done but there are ways to safely do it and they failedOr maybe not do the work with heavy equipment on one of the hottest, driest days in recent years?
The last fire was started by crews blasting the old damns in that canyon. That one was caught quick and put out.
anymore info on this???? where do they want them? They just called for an additional 6 type 1 strike teams
Holy shit!
Where do you get this view? That's perfect for seeing where things really are.
Both of us have been evacuated a few times over the years. Pixies had to evacuate there horses this timeScorched your house once if I remember right or was that Pixie's?
Fired?? Seriously?? they just got promoted with this king size fuck up.Someone are probably lose their job over this, but that is correct Orange County Public Works those idiots start at the fire, which can happen with the bulldozer and didn’t have an engine company standing by during all this heat and dry weather. You can’t fix stupid.

They are hitting it. The cameras in both directions are cover in pink splatters. Definitely roasted up there.Watching the noon news and the hilltop with the towers is actively burning. (As shown by the camera shots posted).
I’m shocked they aren’t dumping phoscheck or water on hilltop and drowning that hilltop out.
Hopefully those are cinderblock buildings impervious to fire.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.Between this Airport Fire thread and the Line Fire thread you make forest fire fighting sound easy.
Is there a word for this situation where the smoke essentially makes a thunderhead?
