OMG... LOVED IT!!!! Like Tank said....like the movies used to be made! Knocked it out of the park. We saw it in a new format for us.. not IMAX but the sides of the movie theater were projected on as well..... took a second to get used to it but once you really got engaged in the movie ....was a much "fuller" experience.

We rendered our f14 fleet inoperable and destroyed the parts that could be transferred to Iran. All spares got ground up. Iran's tomcat at fleet is flyable, just not too many of them.

they also have the only 747 refueling plane
You mean after some people went to prison from DLA for supplying Iran parts in the early 2000s. Yeah that was a good one.

Chinese and Russians have been supplying reversed engineered parts for a while. They have cannibalized the fleet but they still have enough up and running to be combat effective.

They ran out of AIM-54 Phoenixs a long time ago and have been using HAWK SAMs in place which is quite cleaver to be honest.

Just got home from seeing, great movie. Haven’t been to the theatre in almost 10 years and noticed how rude people have become. Burps, a fart, conversations, etc.

Bummer. We had none of that. I even noticed that no one left their trash behind either, except for some popcorn on the floor.

Definitely worth the 36 year wait.
We watched the first movie last night so the kids knew the story line and while they showed the past a little my kids said it would have been fuzzy had they not seen the original, also they wouldn't have understood the tension between Iceman and Maverick which flows into this movie between 2 different actors.
Thanks for mentioning this. I was wondering if it was going to be an issue if the kids hadn’t seen the first one.

1) The mission itself was a total ripoff of Star Wars #1. Hit the hole deep in the Death Star and you'l blow it to pieces. The approach, and the shot were basically the same scene. And
I did enjoy the movie, I was thinking the exact same thing as you.

From what I can tell...

Looks like Irvine Spectrum and City walk are the best places to see it.

There is a whole thread on Reddit about it. The best screen, the best sound, the different projection systems, who has the best seats...

Pretty crazy all the details those guys know about theaters!

Might do City Walk and make a day of it with my daughter. 👍🏼

So I have a choice of bad seats at Harkins IMAX or perfect seats at Harkins Cine-1. Both $16.

Feeling like Cine-1 is the way to go.

Wow! That's truly amazing! Kilmer is a class act. Thanks for this post. I knew he had been battling cancer. But, I had no idea it was to this extent.

I just heard they film makers are being sued for copyright infringement. I guess the original movie was based on a novel, and rights were purchased for a certain period if time. The rights reverted back to the Author, and they never authorized a sequel. Hmmmm. Have to see what happens.

I just heard the same. Apparently the may be pulling the movie out of the theaters tomorrow until it is resolved.

Badass movie saw it at this very nice theatre in Texas called the Palladium. I will go back again and watch it on their IMAX screen, it will be even better!

Anyone else not interested in supporting that industry?

Not trying to throw shade on people's excitement over the movie but I'm not interested in supporting libtard acting industry with my money. My wife has been hinting about the movie and i'm indifferent...
We're not all libtards!

We saw it last night. Loved it. We also appreciated Cruise's monologue before the movie started. I don't think they could have done a better job. They kept much of the storyline true to the original. Miles Teller was a superb cast for Goose's son. Penny Benjamin (the admiral's daughter mentioned in the original) is in this one. I didn't have high expectations so it certainly exceeded them. The flight choreography (is that the correct term??) was absolutely amazing! I don't know if it was CG or not and don't really care. This is the first movie we've seen since Covid began and we used to go a lot.

One thing to add. This is opening weekend, right? We're in Durango and I purchased the tickets around noon for 6 PM and got decent seats. At the theater, there was zero line to get in. There were 2 people in front of us at the concessions. We still had the reserved recliner seating. Such a great experience watching it in a small town. In Reno, or anywhere in SoCal, it would have been a complete zoo. Parking, getting in, purchasing snacks. It would have taken an additional 30 minutes. I'm never moving back to a big city again. Oh, and we parked literally right in front of the theater doors. The small-town experience was enjoyable.
I live in Durango. Were you passing through?

I saw it last night and its a tough call but I think the first one edged it out.
It was the music. The soundtrack in the original one was one zillion times better than the sequel. Other than that, loved it.

We saw it earlier this week. Can't even remember the last time we were at the theater. I thought it was good and the wife thought it was great.

One thing if for sure, when you here that "dong" sound and the intro in the new flik it gets the red blooded American feelz making you want to kick ass!

From the original...

Haven't seen the movie yet but will at some point. Didn't know Tom actually is a pilot. Got to know your shit to fly a P-51. Kinda like John Travolta. Must be a Scientology thing.

Saw it tonight with the kids. We thought it was great. The flying sequences were absolutely amazing. I actually found myself on the edge of my seat. Definitely kick myself for not seeing it in IMAX and with the enhanced sound. I thought it drew a lot from the first, but can see why for the current storyline. I thought the story and acting were great. It wasn’t as cheesy as the first. 👍🏻👍🏻
And the P-51 is the coolest plane ever.

Just saw it today. Loved it. I missed seeing Tom Skerritt and James Tolkan but they’re both so old I’m not sure what role they could be in. I was glad to see a patriotic movie without all the woke bullshit that’s been going around the last few years in the entertainment world. The tribute to Tony Scott was nice as well at the end.

I went to see Maverick with my Dad last week, it was a good movie, very entertaining. Tom Cruise knows what's up. Was that Tom's P51 in the movie? I'm thinking it was.

Wife and I saw it today. Enjoyed it very much, Kudos to Tom Cruise. His into was great.

Only things I thought coulda been left out were Penny in a Porsche and the football on the beach. Both total rips from the first. Minor things, wanna see it again!!

Yesterday the wife and I took our grandsons 14 and 12. They have watched the first movie several times, we saw it at a IMAX theater and we enjoyed the movie I would go again.

Saw it last night.

Exactly what a movie should be.

Fun watch no BS.

Perfectly said...

We drove down to Irvine Spectrum last night to watch it on a Real (huge) IMAX screen. The sound was Fucking Amazing. When those jet engines fired up, you FELT it! 🤩

Had dinner at a place called Wood Ranch. Great BBQ food right next to the theater.

It's exactly what a summer block buster movie Should be. Fun to watch with great music and visuals.

Perfect Saturday night in SoCal. 👍🏼👍🏼

I will wait, maybe do a binge watch as I have never seen the original.

How is that even possible??? 🤣

The bartender that served us dinner said his friend had seen the new one 8 times already (has one of those unlimited Regal accounts).

I was kinna shocked at first, but then thought...

I've probably seen the original 20 times over the years, so 8 isn't that big of a deal!

Go see it on the big screen. Irvine Spectrum and City Walk have the biggest screens (and best sound) available.

Expensive, but totally worth it. 👍🏼
