What exactly is to be teaching moment here? I mean if you don't know that was not only illegal and harmful to the ocean and life in general by that age you literally don't care or are fricken moron.

I know this was done within sight of land but what about all the trash barges that dump farther out in the ocean every day from the big coastal cities put a stop to it all make the cities figure out how to deal with their trash

Teachable moment aka slap on the wrist… confiscate and crush daddy’s boat,. 2 years incarceration, max fines. Make an example… but that won’t happen… at most they’ll get probation, maybe shock time, a little bit of community service and a fine of like $500.

They are minors and will walk.
If push come to shove Lawyer will claim someone threw a burning blunt or butt into the trash and they were preventing the boat from catching fire.

I thought this generation was more conscience about this stuff.
Starting to see spray-paint graffiti on Parker Dam Rd near the dam.
BTW: Getting the BLM OK to remove it ain't simple. Ain't cheap to do it either.

Got to do something like friends of Dumont, Glamis etc and create a friends of Parker Strip with cleanup days to address this stuff.

I say the death penalty. lol! I love people’s reactions. Twenty years hard time in San Quentin! I’d say that steep fines, and a shit ton of community service is appropriate. I was a shit head kid at that age. Thank god there was no cell phones.

We all made dumb decisions when we were young. We were lucky enough that cameras were not everywhere like today.

Horrible decision hopefully they learn from it.

Theres a ton of McCulloch outboards off Long Beach. I worked with the guy who dumped them there.

Really worse was the dumping of shit in Powell by the Marina. Outboards, batteries etc ..it all went to the bottom while working on boats.

We brought back a 30 gallon trash bag of shit after our 4x4 ride Friday and that trail was only reopened 3 weeks ago.

He likely didn’t know it happened until
After it happened..

Although it kinda looks like they drove out there just to dump it? Because they turned around and came right back.

Who knows.. what I do know is the only two that should be charged are the ones that actually dumped it.

Teenagers in Dad's boat with 2 trash cans full of empty booze bottles and cans. They aren't going back to the dock like that,.

Unfortunately kids grow up and can do adult things with the mental capacity of a kid. I have two boys 11 and 12 already doing stupid shit.

The captain if I recall from article is the boat owners son. He left the helm while in motion to dump the trash, and 1 buddy helped.
Yes they deliberately drove out to dump because they were under age with trash cans full of empty alcohol containers. During what ever fest in FL, crawling w patrol boats.

Me thinks you only watched video and dint read, lol

I do agree only the 2 dummies dumping should be charged, they’ll likely get community service at worst.

Lol the shit the Navy tosses into the ocean after a cruise would blow people’s minds here.
At least the Navy has the foresight not to dump their shit within camera range of shore on a busy weekend afternoon.

Next time boys and girls, black trash bags stuffed up under the deck, then throw them in the dumpster at the ramp. Nobody's gonna know....

My buddies daughter did the same thing on arrowhead, to a much smaller scale. Like a dozen beer cans or so. Her friends and her were booze cruzing, in dad’s boat, and had to get rid of the evidence, and someone saw them chuck the cans out, and filmed it. It was a big deal, my buddy got called in to the ALA office, and had to pay a huge fine. They asked who the driver was, and he told them it was his daughter. My buddy found a great solution. The daughter had to work all summer for ALA, to pay the fine. Most of her check, or maybe all of it went to paying the fine. They asked her to come back the following year to work after that, and I think she still works summers there. The shame will never leave though. It gets brought up all the time, and she gets totally embarrassed. She asked when will it go away, and my buddy said to her that it’ll never go away. It gets brought up all the time.

At least it looked like it was all aluminum and maybe glass? If it was a hundred red party cups or something I'd be pissed.. That being said we all did dumb stuff like this at that age we just didn't get caught lol

I hope they serve jail time at time of finals causing them to miss school and fail. Any scholarships they have are gone!!! Now daddy really has to pay for college. Also boat should be impounded for 90 days outside uncovered. Lastly 10k fine for each of them. + 1000 hours community service

They're already facing a slow painful death by smoking in the first place.

Maybe just cut off a toe? 🤔

A Felony is a big freaking deal. No firearms ever, difficulty getting work to some extent, no federal jobs anyway.
I am sure they will come to some kind of deal. Once a felon always a felon.

As a start they should contract divers to pick all those bottles up and pay fish and game to over see it. They would likely have to close the inlet during this.
That will make a bunch of boaters pissed.

Welcome to the spoiled brat legacy.

Littering is one of my pet peeves

If they were under aged, hammered and driving the boat thats way more of a concern.

LOL not to mention leaving the helm while underway in 3-4’ seas. Things could have ended up way worse for that kid.

From the video it looked like a direct trip for a sole reason, and based upon that i disagree and feel he as well should be held responsible and charged.

After Florida gets done with them, the Feds should take up the case and double whammy them. Coast Guard has an extensive list of environmental crimes they can be charged with to avoid "double jeopardy" claims. Seize the boat, as being used to commit a felony offense, and auction it off.

"Teaching moment"???? Fuck them. Have Bubba give them a teaching moment in a 6x10 concrete room.

Yep fuck them!!!!

They are old enough to know this is wrong. Time the pay the piper!!!

That goes for anyone who knowingly litters smokers and all.

Again your trash is not hard to control. Pack it in pack it out. It’s not like the boat bounced and wind caught a beer can here. They look around. Coast was clear and dumped a full trash can into the ocean.

For those of you who think this isn’t a big deal or they should do 20 hours of community service post your address up. I have loads of cat litter, and other trash I gladly dump on your property.

Seriously these fucktards should have a felony and miss finals for whatever grade they are in forcing them to fall behind

Laws are more for deterrent purposes than punishment.

Slap on the wrist, fines their daddy will pay, and community service doesn't deter anything. They'll be bragging about how they got away with it for the rest of their lives.

Not ruining their lives. It’s called making sure they don’t fuckin do it again.

You make it memorable and it will deter further dumbassery. You make it a slap on the wrist and they forget it happened at all by next week.

It’s why I don’t have kids. If I raised them they way I was raised CPS would have taken the kids away by now in this weak-in-the-knees discipline climate.

IMO, boat owner needs to get fine.
Kids need a large fine (400+ hours of community service) on their misdemeanor charge.

My kids know to leave someplace cleaner than you found it.
It is lost on these kids, and summer weekends spent cleaning the marinas should make the kids realize their mistake was huge.

They charged them with felonies with the intention to drop to mistemeanors for the shock value to these kids and anyone else following the story that have done the same thing but haven't gotten caught. These kids will not have their lives ruined but their lives will be turned upside-down for awhile.

I keep reading on here how "they're just kids doing dumb shit"....but I can tell you, as a kid that did dumb shit never once would it occur to me to toss or leave my pile of trash anywhere. Never been in my DNA to pollute enmass.
We just hid the cans/bottles in the trunk with the keg. 😂

Felony for littering? Jesus.

Can’t even get real criminals charges in most states.

Fine and community service sounds appropriate. Maybe some type of fine to parent for allowing under age kids take his boat. Of course, they could’ve taken it without his permission. Who knows. But holy fuck. Two trash cans dumped in the ocean and people go ape shit. lol.

That’s how it’s always worked Dave.
20 years ago, no one had cell phones with cameras. Times have changed.

The forest up in Flagstaff is filled with game cameras. You can’t pee in a forest anymore, without expecting to be recorded.

I hear you can’t leave a shopping cart unattended in a parking lot in Lake Havasu. 😁

We are all judged by the masses. And now the masses have internet access and a google search engine. 😁🤔
