I had it a few years ago. It was a 2" wide band half way around my stomach. The nerve pain (which is unbearable) only lasted for a few days , thank god but the rash and itching went on for several weeks.
Just a few days ago I thought I was having another outbreak on my back but it turned out to be a severe alergic reation to something (dont know what).

Make sure you have plenty of aleeve on hand for the pain and an AVeeno bath will help with the itching.
Good luck, hope it's over with quickly.

In your 30s?
So, you were officially an old dude before me.
Thanks!
You helped my self esteem.
You might be on the list...for a Christmas card. :)

Same here. Had it a few years back. I'm 37. Its a Herpes strain. So the meds are the same for Herpes. Fun at the pharmacy when you are young. They were all chuckling. Get home my nurse wife is laughing her ass off.

Probably been mentioned. If when a kid you were not vaccinated for Chicken Pox you are as an adult at a higher risk for Shingles. If you were not vaccinated no doubt there was a good reason given to your Parents from family Doctors. There were several reasons you might not have been Vaccinated for Chicken Pox.Skin conditions etc.Shingles have nothing to do with present lifestyle. As usual allotta good info here.

i got it a few years ago. important that you take antiviral and maybe prednisilone. only occurs on one side of your body. although painful for a few weeks, you usually recover unless it get in your eye. mine started on my left forehead and unfortunately moved into my left eye. this caused corneal scarring with diminished vision that cannot be recovered with glasses. if bad enough, a cornea transplant is required which is very high risk.

I'm a prime candidate because I had chicken pox in my thirties. Got the shot at 55. No problems so far.

Just read up a little. If you are an adult that has never had chicken pox but you are around kids that may have it or get it, you should get the chicken pox vaccine.

So sorry for you Gelcoater....this sucks.
My mother in law had them, she got them at about 74, and had them, bad, for about 2 years. Made her absolutely miserable. She had received the vaccination for them, her doc told her that they probably would have been worse had she not had the shot. I sure as heck hope you don't go through what she did.
If it is true that shot is now suggested for 5 and over then I need to find out if I can get it covered via my insurance. They wouldn't pay for it last time I asked, and if I recall correctly it was a $270 shot....not in the cards...I will be the big 60 in October, and I am getting it...one way or t'other...

I had it bad, across my torso.

Felt like someone was stabbing me with a white-hot sword...from the inside.

Residual pain for months afterward.

Im not 100% sure but I want to say I heard it can be contagious and to stay away from little ones. Like infants.

Well look who the cat drug in:cool:

And you’re right.
I’m going to have to be very careful. Can only work nights now after people are gone.
To complicate things worse Bob at Eliminator is getting chemo treatments and is in the shop often.
I know people’s immune system are compromised while on the chemo, I’d hate to stack one more thing on his lap to deal with.
That acetone bath may be the next big cure for shingles.. Acetone gets rid of almost anything.
Ya know? Those spots don’t look as bad now? I might try it on another spot.

Got it in February this year for the second time..... I’m 38, had it 2 years ago at 35. Most painful thing I’ve experienced and I’ve had pancreatitis, broken bones and Gallbladder disease. Good luck!

Before you couldn't get that vaccine until after age 60, but they recently dropped it to age 50.

Based on Gelcoater's posts...he qualified a long, long time ago for the vaccine :D:p:)

You can get it younger...

Although my grandpa started speaking in tongues before he died of shingles.

Quite.
It’s actually along the starboard torso/rib cage

As others have stated “Get the Shot.” In my early 50’s I had the shingles, very similar to what you are experiencing. A wide band on right of torso, about 2 1/2” wide from middle of torso wrapping around to right half of my back. Get to your Doctor if you haven’t got your appointment yet. Take the shot, and calamine lotion or spray on. This relieved the itchiness for me. Took two weeks to get rid of this. My wife had me stay in our guest room, as she heard shingles is contagious. Once it was cleared up and confirmed over it by my Doctor, she threw away the sheets that I had used, just so nobody could possibly be infected afterward. Best of luck with your case. Do not scratch the rash. I just tried to ignore the itching and pain.

My Pops had it years ago . . . said if he could've reached his gun, he'd have eaten a bullet. Take care of it . . . you'll be fine though.
Itches like a MOFO for a while.

My pediatrician was shocked when I had it at 12 in 1976. I remember him calling the nurse in to see it. It followed a line from my left wrist up under arm, down the left side of back all the way to left ankle.

There's some funny shit in this old thread. Moral of the story:

If you contract some kind of painful rash, RDP ain't the place to go for sympathy.

Dude I wish that shit on no one. Take the nerve blockers, that's the only thing that sort of helped with the pain. Where is yours located? Mine was on my face.

I also had chicken pox at 35 as previously mentioned. Laid me out and I was in bed for 2 weeks. Absolutely unbearable.

Got the shingles vaccines last year also. Took a bite out of me for a couple days. Sure hope it does the trick and keeps me shingles free. I feel for you guys that have had to endure it.

I also got this f'n shit ... at that age and timeline. Covered back hips to arms. I had two paper routs about 90 papers each one in morning one in after noon. Mom tried to help out by driving me around but was to painful getting in and out of car... So shirtless, on my bike at 6 am in October west coast Canada rain or shine for about three weeks... Wouldn't wish this on anyone

I’m telling you, Royal.
Acetone.!
It was soothing at first followed by pure agony for a moment as the oxygen hit the acetone on the spots. Within 24 hours I could feel it declining. A couple days later it was gone. I didn’t even take the meds I was given for it.

I remember in the 1970's to 1980's when my grandfather had it a couple of times.
If you're in the upper 50's .... get the vaccine.
You will sell your soul wishing you'd had the shot if you come down with a case.
